Short Story Sunday 177: Quack

Joanna walked out of her house and across the street to the pond. The sun was just starting to rise so most people weren’t out and about yet, especially since it was a Saturday morning. She had been walking around the pond every Saturday morning for the past couple of years. The only times she hadn’t was when she or her husband was...

Short Story Sunday 287: Make

May waved goodbye to her parents as her father backed out of the driveway and turned left right after her mother backed out of the driveway and turned to the right. Once both cars were around the corner and out of sight, May closed the front door and ran into her kitchen. Her parents were going to be at work for the next six...

Short Story Sunday #29

Start with: If I could stop…             If I could stop time, now would be the perfect time to do it. I had been waiting for this moment for years. All of my hard work had finally paid off. From working at a dead-end part-time job to save money only for it to all disappear within the month due to bills and other things....

Everybody Loves Comet

I know I have introduced you all to Comet before. He is one of the main characters in my middle grade series, Hunter & Comet. I have just started writing the first one, but I have a few books planned out…if the series takes off. When my aunt died and my cousins “moved in” (I use quotes because they were over five days a week...

How To Write Characters With Unique Sensory Quirks

We all have issues. We all have quirks. It’s part of what makes us human. Therefore, our characters should have quirks too. What exactly is a quirk? A quirk is an unusual behavior, an out of the ordinary habit. If it was something everyone did, then it wouldn’t exactly be a “quirk.” But I’m not saying no two people can share the same quirk....

How To Decide Your Next Read

Choosing what book you should read next is not easy. Sometimes you have to be in a certain mood to read a book. Other times you have your next book all picked out but then you go to the bookstore and end up finding something else. There are times you look at the millions of books on your shelves at home you haven’t read,...

Camp NaNo: New Characters

Via Pinterest I wrote 3,010 words this morning. My official word count for Camp NaNoWriMo at the moment is 19,034 words. I would have liked to hit 20,000 words this morning, but I wanted to post on here and then I have to get ready for work (technically, I should be getting ready for work now). I think it was on day two or...

Color Me Murder By Krista Davis [Book Review]

I bought a paperback copy from Barnes & Noble. Summary: By day, Florrie Fox manages Color Me Read bookstore in Georgetown, Washington D.C. By night, she creates her own intricately detailed coloring books for adults, filling the pages with objects that catch her eye. There’s plenty of inspiration in her new apartment–a beautiful carriage house belonging to Professor John Maxwell, Florrie’s boss. He offers...

Short Story Sunday 157: Jelly

Kate stood in her kitchen making lunch for her and her three sons. She had asked what they all wanted and each of them stated they wanted peanut butter and jelly. Since she was going to be making three anyway, Kate figured she might as well have one too. The boys were playing outside kicking a soccer ball around while Kate prepared their...

I’ve been writing since I was 10-years-old because I wanted to copy my older sister. Originally starting with Ninja Turtle fan fiction, writing stuck with me throughout the years as I honed my skills in the craft and let my imagination run wild. I like to write in a few different genres, though I mostly write mystery as well as short stories and/or flash fiction. In 2022 I won the “Qutex Young Author for the year” award. I also wrote many articles for different sites. One example can be found here.
