In my latest NaNo Update post I mentioned that I wanted to keep writing every single day to get myself in a good routine.
I have been doing awesome at that. I only skipped one day because of my sister’s baby shower.
I had a write-in for NaNo Tuesday night. I wrote 5,000 words total on Tuesday because of that. The write-in was at night so yesterday morning I just wasn’t feeling the words, even though my writing time is in the morning.
I was tired and wasn’t really sure where to go next in the story, so I decided to read.
Then I had work. Then babysitting. Then when I got home, I was exhausted. I had planned on writing, but I never did.
I was bummed out about it. I don’t really have a good “excuse” for skipping writing yesterday.
Then I realized that I already am in a good writing routine. I write for at least one hour every morning.
But you can’t really write 365 days straight. I think writing 16 out of 18 days is pretty good. The month isn’t even over and I’ll be hitting the word count goal well before the deadline.
So I’m not slacking on my writing. I’m taking a break.
There’s a difference, as slight as it may be.
But it’s okay to take breaks. We all need them now and again.
