Last week’s prompt was Pay Attention.
Here’s mine, a quick story:
Every day, he walked right on by her in the hallway. She would stop by her locker clutching her books tightly to her chest and wait for him. She always kept a look out for him.
She thought to herself, this might be the day he’ll notice me.
She stood in the same spot every single day at the exact same time. His locker was only three lockers down from hers. He was bound to notice her always standing there at some point.
Should she try talking to him when he comes to get his books? Well, that might help her out a little.
She stiffened as she saw his head bobbing above the crowd of students. He was always the tallest in their class. She smiled; she liked tall men.
Watching closely as he opened her locker, she drew in a deep breath. She wanted to say hello to him, but no sound came out of her mouth.
“Hello,” he smiled in her direction.
Her jaw dropped. She should answer him. She was going to make herself look like a fool if she stood there with drool hanging out of her mouth!
Another girl pushed past her and answered him. Then the two of them walked off together.
She frowned leaning her back against her locker. She had missed her chance. He was never going to pay attention to her.
Now onto this week’s prompt…
I sat outside yesterday morning on the deck in my backyard. I brought a book, my phone, and a cup of coffee with me.
After reading my book for about a half hour, I put head back in my chair and closed my eyes. It was early in the morning and I could feel the sun burning into my skin, hear the birds chirping in their nests in my gutters, smell the freshly mowed lawn at my neighbor’s house, and the taste of my last sip of coffee lingering in my mouth.
It was peaceful. I was relaxed.
Thus, inspiration for this week’s Time to Write came.
Write about a character observing their surroundings with their five senses. Let the reader feel as though they’re with the character.
Are they in a place they love? In a place they hate? Maybe they’re in line at a coffee shop and love the smell of coffee, but the person in line in front of them has really bad body odor.
If you choose to participate, post your work in the comments. I’d love to see what you come up with.
Next Friday, before revealing the next prompt, I’ll post my version of the prompt along with anyone else who participates with a link back to their blog.
Happy writing!
