I borrowed a paperback copy from the kid I babysit. The decision to review and all opinions are my own.
I read this book alongside the eight-year-old I babysit for her reading log at school. This graphic novel series is based upon the original Baby-Sitters Club novels by Ann M. Martin. I never read the original novels and this was my first time reading The Baby-Sitters Club.
Stacey has recently moved to town and, luckily, she made some new friends and had joined the Baby-Sitters Club, or BSC. Not only is she struggling with Diabetes but now there’s a rival babysitting agency that she and her friends need to deal with.
What I love about this book is that it touches upon some interesting topics all the while being entertaining for the kids. The struggle with Diabetes is real and this book introduces that to kids in a friendly yet informative way.
On the other hand, it deals with friendship and also doing the right thing, in terms of the BSC and their rivals. A lot of times babysitters aren’t painted in a pretty picture in most movies and books but these are good babysitters. Their rivals aren’t.
Overall, it’s a quick story about doing the right thing and staying true to yourself and caring for yourself and others.
