Prompt — Use the words: Alabama, Insensitive, Nonsense
Start with: Sometimes I feel just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel!
Sometimes I feel just like a gerbil running around and around on his wheel! I was in such a rut. Every single day I woke up at five in the morning to do some homework then go to work for eight hours only to come home to finish more homework if there was any left.
So there I was listening to the radio while doing my homework at about 5:05 AM. Sweet Home Alabama came on and I had to take a break from my homework to listen. That was my older brother’s favorite song. It brought back some great memories. He was out of state getting his Master’s degree and he lived in an apartment with his girlfriend which meant he rarely came out to visit. I hadn’t seen him in over a year.
“Cindy!”
I rolled my eyes. “Joey, don’t you know how to knock?” I exclaimed at my little brother who had just barged straight through my bedroom door. “Wait…what are you even doing up at this hour?”
Without answering, he jumped back out into the hallway closing the door. After a brief moment of silence, I heard a soft knock on the other side of my door.
“Come in, Joey.” I groaned.
The 16-year-old entered the room once more with a great grin stretched across his face. “Mom wanted to know if you wanted any pancakes for breakfast. She’s making me some.”
“No thanks,” I shook my head. “Why are you awake now?”
“The aliens woke me up in the middle of the night and abducted me. They just dropped me off.” Joey smirked. He was always talking nonsense.
“Whatever.” I sighed getting back to my homework. “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”
“Cindy, don’t be so insensitive. I was poked and prodded by aliens all night long. I’m very sore and tired.” Joey was still smirking.
“Out.” I pointed to the door with a harsh glare.
He left without another word. Sweet Home Alabama was just ending on the radio. It was times like this I really missed my older brother.
