Short Story Sunday 111

12 April 2023

“I thought the test was extremely easy.” Bob smirked folding his arms across his chest.

“Yeah, but you’re smart.” Jack pouted.

“You studied.” Bob shrugged.

“Sometimes studying isn’t enough when you’re teaching yourself.” Jack grunted.

Bob frowned. He sat down at the foot of Jack’s bed taking out a Rubix Cube out of his backpack. “Your teacher just teaches differently than mine does, that’s all.”

Jack stared at Bob mesmerized by the colorful cube. He didn’t understand why Bob played with that puzzle all the time. He was able to beat it in just a few turns. Jack didn’t know how he did it. The cube frustrated him, but it was another easy thing to Bob. Everything was easy for Bob.

“I can help you study next time, you know. Or maybe I can tutor you and teach you the way my teacher teaches us. Maybe you’ll learn better from my teacher than from your own.” Bob offered not taking his eyes off of the white side of his cube. He furrowed his brows and then his face lightened once more as he figured it out.

Jack rolled his eyes.

“Seriously,” Bob completed the puzzle and looked up at his friend.

Jack sighed at the sight of the solved Rubix Cube and sat down on the other side of his bed, away from Bob. “I don’t know… Can you at least pretend that thing is hard?”

Jack didn’t mean to be jealous of Bob, but… He was jealous of his friend. Everything came easy to him. Meanwhile Jack didn’t understand anything.

Bob stared down at his solved cube and slowly placed it back into his backpack. He then took out his geography textbook and opened it to the chapter 11, which was where they were in class. “Let me help you.” He smiled.

Jack groaned lying down on his bed. This was the last thing he wanted to do. Yet, it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
