With the holidays just around the corner, I thought I would compile a list of gifts that could be given to writers.
I’ve been teetering back and forth about what to get Kris because there’s just so much that I could give her, whether it has to do with writing, reading, or even video games.
So, if you still have some shopping left to do and you’re buying for a fellow writer, consider these items.
“I’m Silently Correcting Your Grammar” Mug
Anyone who knows me knows I loved mugs and love to collect them. If I could, I would make an entire list of mugs for writers, but I won’t. I’ll try to have some sort of variety.
I actually have this mug at home. It was given to Kris for her birthday or Christmas one year. I love it because it’s a good size to wrap your hands around and it’s simple. Plus, it’s true. If you’re a writer, who doesn’t judge someone by their grammar?
Some writers prefer tea over coffee and this tea is perfect. Kris is one of those people and has gotten this before and loved it. Each teabag has a literary quote attached and it’s yummy.
Great Drinkers, Great Writers Shot Glasses
Writing is stressful. We each deal with it in our own way. Here’s a box of six shot glasses, each with a different literary author and quote, who apparently loved drinking.
You know how you always come up with your best ideas in the shower? Well, now you can write them down!
This is a waterproof notepad and pen with suction cups that stick to the inside of your shower. I’ve never tried it (though I do want to) and it has some pretty good reviews.
The Emotion Thesaurus by Angela Ackerman
I’m sad to say that I don’t have this book. I’ve had it on my wishlist for a very long time, along with the other books in the series, but I’ve heard many people speak highly of it. It’s a great resource for writers.
I’m also sad to say that I don’t have this book, either. I’ve skimmed through it here and there though and I do plan on giving it a thorough read through in the near future. Though this book has also been recommended to me by many people and I’ve heard this is another wonderful resource for writers. Well, this is the writing resource for writers.
The Amazing Story Generator by Jay Sacher
I actually have this one! It’s a book of writing prompts. Each page is split into thirds so you can mix and match the prompts and never run out of ideas. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to get your mind moving.
This is something else Kris has and it’s pretty cool. It’s a deck of cards that have ideas and tips for writers. The whole point is, if you get stuck in your story and don’t know where to go next, pick a card and it will tell you what to do. You can pick multiple cards and write a story based on the various, random ideas.
Similar to the Emergency Pack above, this is a box of dice. Each die has different pictures on each side. Roll the dice and write a story based off of the pictures. I’ve played this with the kids I babysit where we each took turns rolling one die and added to the story based on our picture. We came up with some pretty funny stuff! There are many different versions of this pack, as well, such as “actions” and “voyages.”
That’s all I have for you guys for now. I’ve realized Kris has used most of this stuff than I have, but oh well.
What else can you get for a writer? Notebooks, pens, editing tools… We love office supplies. You can never go wrong with that.
