April is over tomorrow, which is totally crazy to me. It’s been a busy month, so I’ve decided to give you guys a writing challenge update. I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo and it was also a Finish month for the 85K90 Writing Challenge.
I wrote over 50,000 words on my next Wattpad story, Crossroads. However, the story is far from over and I’m going to have a lot of editing to do. Like, a crazy amount of editing. I’ve kept notes and have a better idea of which direction I want the story to go in. In fact, I don’t even know if I’ll “complete” the first draft before I start editing. I have a better understanding of my characters and know what I want them to accomplish.
With that said, I think I’ll spend the next couple of days doing a more thorough outline. In the end, I ended up with over 54,000 words for the novel, so I’m pleased with that. There will be scenes that will get cut out, but most will stay.
It was a successful Camp NaNo session and I even had the chance to throw in a 10K writing day as well, which was great.
85K90 Writing Challenge
This year-long challenge is wrapping up the first portion. “Writing” months were January through March with April as a “Finish” month. April can be used as a break or to catch up if you’ve fallen behind. I counted Crossroads toward the 85K goal, though that still left me with quite a bit left over to write.
I edited a lot during the first few months of the year so I didn’t truly start keeping track of my progress with this challenge until March. Thank goodness Camp NaNo fell on a Finish month so I could kill two birds with one stone.
Aside from Crossroads, I counted any writing I did for Sunday Morning and George Florence & The Perfect Alibi. I also counted any short stories or flash fiction I wrote for my patrons on Patreon. This allowed me to reach the 85K goal just this past weekend. My sister and I went to Barnes & Noble and I banged out the final 4,000-or-so words I had left to reach the finish line.
I’d like to say I have today and tomorrow as a break, but I’m still working. May marks the beginning of the “Edit” months. I’m going to start working on editing the second volume of Sunday Morning, continue revising George Florence & The Perfect Alibi, as well as edit and revise Crossroads.
It’s going to be a busy month, but I have a calendar for the month on what I’ll be working on which days. May, as far as I know, should be a fairly quiet month too. There are no major holidays, no school vacations, or anything of the kind. It should be a smooth month for writing.

Happy Wednesday! I know a did a WIP Wednesday update last week, but I mentioned in that post that I haven’t done a whole lot of writing. I figured some things out over the weekend and I thought it was time for me to do a writing update on that.
I’ve been so focused on trying to get ahead with blogging and other things so that I can focus on writing that I haven’t been focusing on writing… I mean, I’m been making great progress in other things, don’t get me wrong. However, we’re halfway through March and what do I have to show for it when it comes to writing? Not much, to be honest.
Last week was totally up in the air too. We were waiting for my nephew to be born. He came a day earlier than the due date so most of my time was spent visiting them at the hospital and going to their house. Everyone is doing well and we’re all blessed to have another baby in the family!
Over The Weekend
I made a new calendar for myself over the weekend. At the beginning of the year, I listed what projects I had planned on working on each month for all of 2019. Each project has a deadline for every stage of writing all the way to publication. I go in spurts sticking with it so I made a new calendar and assigned projects to each day. Monday through Friday I’ll be working on novels and such while Saturdays will be one-offs, short stories, etc. Sundays will be a break day unless I’m in the mood to work on something writing related.
With that said, this week I’ve been working on two projects. Sunday Morning – yes, this is still coming. Way later than I originally thought, I know. Once the book is out, I’ll be writing a post about why it took so long. There are a lot of factors to it. However, I have a new release date for it and a solid plan to get it all done by then, pre-orders and all. There will be more on that later.
I’ve also started (I was supposed to work on it all month) outlining my next Wattpad novella. It’s a fantasy, RPG-style. I haven’t really written anything like it before but I’m excited to give it a go. I think it’ll turn out well.
85K90 Writing Challenge
Yeah, about this… we’re supposed to be in the 45,000 range and I have just about 10,000 words. I mean, I still have the month of April, which is also a Camp NaNoWriMo month so I’ll be writing 50,000 words anyway. I’ll catch up no problem. What was hard about this so far is that the majority of my projects are already in the editing stages so I didn’t need to “write” anything. But I’m trying to keep up with it as best as I can. I’m rewriting a couple of stories for Sunday Morning and also rewriting George Florence and the Perfect Alibi, so I’ve been counting those words.
I have this all planned out already (even though I haven’t put it on the website yet). I’ll be writing my Wattpad novella while continuing to rewrite George Florence and the Perfect Alibi. For the last two days, I’m going to prep my next project after Sunday Morning to prepare for the 85K90 Writing Challenge’s editing months while begin in May. But of course, more on that later.
I’m In Good Shape
While I should have had Sunday Morning published a while ago, I think I’m in good shape at this point. Slow and steady wins the race and I’m looking forward to the next couple of months. I’ll stick to these calendars and come May, I’ll make a calendar for the next few months.

I’ve been making great progress this month with the help of NaNoWriMo.

All of those words are for Short Story Sunday 2019.
I was pleased I was able to give myself a 10k-day. My sister had work off that day so we got together with members of our writing group early in the morning. I ended up writing about 4,199 words with them at the cafe. I took a break when we got home, but then I wrote some more. I took another break and then hit 10k by 9:00 pm.
I was exhausted by the end of it and I really had to push myself, but I was determined and I did it. I also beat my “wordiest day” from November 10, 2017 which was 10,103 words. Next year I’ll plan on writing 10,232 words (at least) to beat it again.
This month, so far, has been great for my writing. I’m looking forward to continuing it throughout the month.

We’re already just about halfway through June, which is unbelievable to me. I know I say this a lot, but I feel like 2018 just started, let alone the month of June.
But anyway, here’s what I’ve been working on this month.
George Florence & The Perfect Alibi
I’ve been working on rewriting this book, the first in the mystery series. I was hoping this would be my last draft, but I ended up making some major changes to the plot. So I’m going to finish rewriting the draft and go from there.
To have it finished by the end of the month, I’ve been writing about 25 pages a day. So far, it’s been going pretty well.
I’m working on writing the first draft of my next Wattpad story, a fantasy filled with adventure and dragons. I’ve been writing one chapter each day I work on it (which is about three days a week) and so far, I like how it’s turning out. I hope it conveys that way when I publish it.
I’ve been working on a brand new project for the past week or so. This is something that will see the light of day, but it’s exclusive to my patrons on Patreon for now. When it does release into the world, my patrons will have exclusive stuff (I’m saying the term “stuff” loosely for now until I decide what it is) to go along with it. So, I’m excited for this one!

Between bits of freelance work here and there, blogging, my own writing, and life, I’ve been pretty busy. When I check off one thing from my to-do list, five more things seem to get added.
I’ve talked about it this before. In fact, I’m sure I’ve talked about it a couple times. I’m trying to create a steady schedule and routine for myself for all the work I need/want to do.
Some months are easier than others, but, like I said, my to-do list grows faster than it shrinks.
I’ve created deadlines for everything I want to do – some I’m going to end up missing. Which is okay. I can’t do everything all at once.
A big problem I have is that I focus a lot more on my blog than I do my writing – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, my blog needs a lot of attention. However, I’m barely getting any writing done, despite my blog posts talking about all these projects I’m working on. I need a better balance to give my characters the spotlight they’ve been craving for so long.
So, that’s why this update is strictly for my writing.
If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know I create monthly goals. Since I’ve been working on multiple novels, I try to spend each month working on different stages of each novel – outlining, writing, editing, rewriting. It’s a lot, but it’s actually been working for me, as crazy as it is.
My biggest problem is time. I’ll tell myself I can work on a couple projects on certain days and then things in real life will happen or something will happen with the blog that I’ll need to take care of. So this is something I need to account for. I won’t get to everything on my daily to-do list – again, which is fine since I can’t do everything at once – but I don’t think I work on the “high priority” stuff first.
I had a few novella ideas for Wattpad. I had planned on publishing 4 stories, each of them being three months apart. Two have been published and are completed – The Scribe and Take Over – feel free to check them out if you haven’t already.
Currently, I’m working on Brave, which I had originally planned on publishing in July. I outlined the story in April and was supposed to write the first draft in May and only ended up writing the prologue. I’m supposed to edit it in June but obviously, I can’t edit what I haven’t written. I’m not sure if I’ll try to have it done by the end of July or push everything back a month. This isn’t something I want to rush.
After Brave, I’ll be working on Silhouettes, which is supposed to be published in October, which might end up being November depending on how Brave goes.
I’ve already decided for 2019 that I think I’ll only publish 2-3 stories on Wattpad. I have a good schedule going, but with my other projects, I think it was too much. I still want to try to get Brave and Silhouettes out this year though.
So, long story short, I’m still working on Brave. It’ll just be later than originally planned.
When I started writing I always thought I’d go traditional. I’d get an agent and a book deal with a publishing company. I’ve even queried to agents – and some publishers – before. However, the more I write and the more research I do, I’ve realized self-publishing is the way to go for me (which I may explain in a later blog post).
I’ve been researching self-publishing and learning a lot about it as well as creating a timeline for the book(s) I plan on publishing.
This is a collection of mystery short stories that I’ve been working on since January. I was hoping to self-publish it in 2019 but I don’t have many short stories. It’s a lot harder to create mystery shorts than I thought. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but all the ideas I create star George and Lilah. I’ve thought about creating a collection of short stories featuring them, but not until after a few books from their series have come out.
So, Perplexed is going a lot slower than I thought. I’m still working on it, but I’m not giving myself a solid deadline anymore. I want to see what comes of it as inspiration hits. Though I still plan on working on it fairly regularly.
George Florence and the Perfect Alibi
Yes! I have finally come up with a title for the first book of the George Florence series that I have been working on since 2011!
But anyway, I plan on self-publishing this. I’ve gone through many drafts and have edited it a ton. It’s definitely time I kick George and Lilah out of the nest.
There’s still plenty of work to do, of course, but I’m planning on a 2019 release.
I have many novels I’m working on, but there’s one I’m working on monthly. It’s called Unwritten and I’ve been sending it to my writer’s group each month. I plan on giving it a deep edit in July (since my group won’t be meeting that month) so they’ll have a brand new draft to look at come August. And then, hopefully, I can edit the book each month after we meet to keep up polished… like I had planned to do originally and never did.
There’s also The Lost Girl, a book I had planned to start editing this summer, though I don’t think I’m going to get around to it. I feel like I have too many other projects to work on, so I’ll be putting it on the backburner.

Wow! We’re already a week into Camp NaNoWriMo! How did that happen?
I thought I would share weekly updates with you on my novel, The Lost Girl.
So far I’ve been loving my characters. Grace seems well put together and while I’ve borrowed J.M. Barrie’s characters, I feel as though I’ve stayed true to their personalities as well as added my own twists to them.
The plot itself is moving along nicely. I think the novel may start off a bit slow in the beginning, but I can always figure that out when the whole draft is finished.
Description is something that I’ve always had trouble with, but I think I’ve been doing well with it so far. I think part of it is because it’s Neverland, a fantasy world. Whereas I can’t have my readers just picture their own houses in their heads.
Honestly, I haven’t hit any bumps in the road (yet).
The plot is, as I said earlier, moving along nicely and I’ve been staying true to my outline. I’ve added a few things here and there, but the novel is going smoothly.
“How come you can leave Neverland and no one else can?” She wondered.
