I’m sure most, if not all, know exactly what it is since we’re all bloggers here.
Bloglovin’ is basically a giant catalog of blogs from WordPress, Blogger, Blogspot, etc. It’s an easier way to follow more blogs you love and they’re conveniently all in one place for you.
Show of hands: guess whose blog is on Bloglovin’?
Mine, of course. I don’t know if someone put my blog on there or if Bloglovin’ is one of those sites that just knows these things, but I found it. So I claimed it as my own because, well… it’s mine.
With that being said, if you’re on Bloglovin’ feel free to follow me through there as well as here.
I went through a found a few of my WordPress friends on Bloglovin’ and started following them on there as well. Some blogs I couldn’t find. Again, I’m not sure how Bloglovin’ works because my blog was already on there and I didn’t post it. I just found out it existed not too long ago.
There’s my shameless plugging for the day. Follow me here, follow me there, follow me everywhere! You guys know where to find me.
Speaking of that, my Contact Me page has been updated.
So Kris and I decided that we were going to go to Barnes and Noble today and write. Yes, we have our office now at home, but we haven’t been to Barnes and Noble in a while. We thought we would go, say hi to the workers behind the Starbucks counter there, but…she ended up getting called into work. So we didn’t go.
We did end up going to Starbucks, though. Since she was closing, we thought we would get coffee and write in our office at home. She continued to edit her novel while I continued to write Inspiration Station.
The more I write that novel the more I realize that I have no idea what I’m doing. When I wrote Detective Florence, I outlined the first part of the novel and continued to outline as I wrote the rest in an attempt to making editing easier for me. I am not outlining Inspiration Station and I never planned on it because this was something I began to write when I had a slight writer’s block. I didn’t expect it to turn into an actual novel. I was still able to write 5,096 words for it, though.
I also changed my schedule, you can see it on the To Do List. Even though I have a lot of free time without work and school, writing 5,000 words a day and editing takes a lot out of someone. So I decided that I’m going to write 5,000 words a day Monday-Thursday and edit Friday-Saturday and relax on Sunday. I can write/edit if I feel like it, but I’m not obligated to do anything. This will be helpful for when school does start back up again (in about a week and a half) and I can do the bulk of my homework on Sunday. Not ideal, but whatever.
So, since tomorrow is Friday that means I’m going to edit. I’m hoping to edit a lot as I would love to self-publish this novella by the end of 2014…wish me luck!
“You may not want to be a writer and that’s fine. But by the end of this class, you are going to know exactly what a writer does and all the blood, sweat, and tears that get mixed in with the ink.” –Athena Beech
Today was a rough day. Kris was home all day because she’s doing the over-night at her work tonight. I also had to go to work because the other teacher and I have been stripping the classrooms. We finished today, thank God. I can’t stand seeing the classrooms so bare. Anyway, because of those two factors I was not able to start writing early in the morning like I have been and with Kris there all I want to do is play video games with her. She got Sonic: Lost World for the Wii U for Christmas and we just started playing it the other day. It’s a great game and I bother her to play it at any moment I get.
So, I came home from work and said, “Wanna play Sonic?!” Kris said something to me that I regret mentioning to her…you see, the other day I wanted to do absolutely nothing. I had a cup of coffee in hand and all I wanted to do was put my feet up and watch Psych. I have been watching that a lot lately, I don’t know why. But season eight starts tomorrow night!
Even though I wanted to do everything humanly possible that did not involve me writing my 5,000 word count, I repeated to myself: Work first, play later. I told Kris this. So, what do you think she said when I asked her to play Sonic? Yes, “Work first, play later.” Thus, we wrote.
Kris wrote a little and then decided to edit her novel (yay!) while I continued to write in order to hit my 5,000 daily word goal. Since I finished Detective Florence I had to write something else. I looked at my To Do List and looked at all the novels from there. I couldn’t choose which one to write, so Kris put them in a randomizer thing on the internet and it told me to write Hunter & Comet.
Well, I wrote an even 2,000 words for that. However, I wasn’t in the mood to write it so I decided to stop because it was turning out kind of crappy…even for the first draft.
I decided to write Inspiration Station instead. This was a story idea I came up with on a whim one night (pretty recently) when I wasn’t sure what to write. At the time I still wasn’t in the mood to finish Detective Florence, I had no idea what to write so I decided to write about writing. I’m pretty sure I’ve explained this novel before, but I’m going to explain it again…
Inspiration Station is about a writer, Athena Beech, who is not yet published because she’s stuck on her writing. As her day job she starts her first semester teaching a creative writing course at a local community college. She has a class full of interesting students. Some are taking the class because they want to write for a living and others are taking it because they believe it to be an “easy A.” Athena takes this as a challenge and comes up with the “Inspiration Station” which is basically a bunch of writing prompts. She hopes to give inspiration to all her students as well as herself.
So, as you probably figured out, the quote up top is from the main character, the teacher, in the story. She said to her class right as they were being dismissed because most of them aren’t too into the class at the moment.
I’m having fun with it. As a teacher, I think it’s fun to write lesson plans and since I’m not a teacher anymore I don’t write lesson plans anymore. So, yes, I am writing actual lesson plans for Athena’s classes. They’re not fully thought-out, mostly just an outline to help me plan the novel, but it’s a lot of fun. I think some of that stuff would be cool to do in a real classroom.
I wrote 3,358 words for the story. Adding that to the 2,000 I wrote for Hunter & Comet, I have 5,358 for today. This also leaves me at 6,500-something total for Inspiration Station so far. I already had about 3,300-something words already written for the story.
I think Inspiration Station is going to be the next novel I complete. I think it’s going to be a good one. I have high hopes for it, anyway.
Today was the first day back to school for everyone. Winter break is officially over. Then the weather decided to give everyone a few extra days.
I don’t know where any of you are, but right now where I am we are in the middle of a blizzard. My area is going to get 9-15 inches of snow and every time I check the weather the amount of snow goes up an inch or two. It started last night around midnight and isn’t going to stop until tomorrow afternoon. So pretty much everywhere declared today and tomorrow a snow day. Now that I don’t have a job anymore this did not effect me at all. However, it was still nice not having to wake up early to get my cousins ready for school.
Today was a good day. I cleaned, I wrote, I shoveled snow, I played Pokemon, I watched TV…and I did it all in my pajamas! Well, I did laundry today which was basically the reason as to why I stayed in my pajamas. And yes, I went outside to shovel in my pajamas. It was great.
Anyway, today is Thursday (as far as I know…without work and school I can’t keep the date straight anymore). This means that I had to write 5,000 words. I wrote 5,359 words on Detective Florence. Lilah, the female protagonist, went missing. I have no idea where she is, why she left, and when she’s going to come back. But poor George, the male protagonist, is freaking out. The good news is he knows how to work his cell phone now. It’s a good thing Lilah decided to teach him before she decided to fall off the face of the earth.
Speaking of writing, I meant to mention this yesterday, but a while back I decided that every Sunday for the year of 2014 I’m going to post a piece of my work whether it be a poem or a short story or a small prompt. I decided to get a few samples up here so you guys realize that I am not in fact all talk. I actually do write stuff. Then when I get something published you guys will like my writing enough to give my novels a shot. So every Sunday I’ll probably post a quick blurb about how many words I wrote, what novel I edited, and whatnot, but I will then post my stories. I have a few written already that I wrote back in October-ish.
Also, since I decided I’m going to read more this year, Kris and I started reading a novel together. There is a TV show called Psych and it is fantastic. Look it up if you’ve never heard of it or seen it. I found out that someone wrote a series of five books based on the show. I got a Kindle for Christmas and the first book of the series was the very first book I bought. We took turns reading the chapters out loud to each other. We stopped at chapter four because we both began to get tongue-tied. But whenever we can’t read together, like tonight because she’s at work, I’m reading another book so I can keep up with my reading goal. You can see what I’m reading and what I’ve already read on my GoodReads account. I decided to keep track of my reading goal on there and focus only on my writing goal here.
In other news, I sent my children’s picture book out to three agents today. I planned on sending it out to more places, but I began to go cross-eyed. So I’ll probably send it out to a few other places tomorrow. The turnaround times are two weeks, six weeks, and eight weeks. So at least I don’t have too long to wait around.
I believe that’s all the updates I have for the moment. Tomorrow is another cold, snowy day. I plan on getting a lot of writing done.
Today is a good day to do nothing. It’s cold, it’s raining, it’s just all around “bleh.” I slept in until 9:30 this morning (I never do that) and I am still in my pajamas…it’s 12:45 right now. Christmas Eve is tomorrow and my shopping and wrapping is all done. The semester finished about a week or so ago so I don’t have to worry about homework and I’m out of a job currently, so I don’t even have to worry about that. Well, other than finding a new job. Anyway, just because it’s a good day to do nothing and I don’t have anything to do, that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t do anything. Right?
Yet, I was reading last night and I went to bed when I had about 35 pages left in my book…why? I have no idea. But I decided to finish reading it this morning and I read a page when Hunter jumped on my lap and purred and stared me down while batting my face with his paw. I knew I should have told him that the world doesn’t revolve around him, but instead of doing that, I put my book down, turned on Psych on Netflix, and the two of us cuddled on the couch for a really long time. When he finally decided that he had enough cuddling, he left me in front of the TV all alone. So I turned it off, turned on Lucy, and decided to get a little writing done.
Kris and I have been doing a great job with our writing lately. She started something new that she’s been doing very well with and I’m continuing Detective Florence. I had planned on finishing that novel by the end of November, NaNoWriMo, but I never did. So I was hoping to finish it by the end of December, but I just started writing it again. I don’t know if I’m going to finish it in the next week; especially since Christmas is in two days. I know I’m getting Pokemon X and Pokemon Y among other video games, so I know for a fact that video games are going to be my life at least until New Year’s, if not longer.
Last night I hit 65,000 words on Detective Florence and got up and over 200 pages. I was proud of myself. But then I look at my outline (which I am making as I write the novel), I have such a long way to go. I think this novel is going to go above and beyond 300 pages, I have no idea how many words that’s going to be. It’s getting to the point where I just want the novel to end.
So I’m trying to write as much as I can every day because the next semester for school doesn’t start until January 21, 2014 and I have no idea when work is going to start up for me again. So I need to take advantage of the free time I have right now.
My only issue is that I need to focus on it. Which I have been doing well on, but I know it’s only a matter of time before I get distracted.
Well, it’s December first. I can’t remember anything that happened this year and we still have a month to go. Needless to say, November was a busy month, but it’s all a blur to me now. The first 17 days of November I wrote…a lot. And I won NaNoWriMo. I had planned on going above and beyond the 50k mark because I wanted to finish the entire manuscript. However, I think I got a little too tired from all that writing before. I hit about 52k and then stopped. But I got a nifty certificate to go with my Camp NaNo ones!
The best part is that Kris won NaNo, too. This was her very first year winning and last night she got home from working 8:30-5:30 and wrote about 5,000 words in order to hit the 50k. She finished around 10:30 at night, but she made it just in time! She and I are going Christmas shopping today. If we find anything we want, we may treat ourselves for winning.
In other news, I started a new project. Yeah, I know…I have too many writing projects going on at once. But I figured that for the month of December I can go back and forth between that one and Detective Florence. I’m hoping that I will be able to finish that novel by the end of the month so for my New Year’s resolution I can say I want it to be completely edited by the end of 2014. Heh, we’ll see what happens.
Anyway, this new project is a collection of silly poems for kids. Random? Totally. Friday night Kris was writing her NaNo novel and I didn’t feel like writing mine. I was in a bit of a hyped up mood and ended up writing a poem about a fat dog named Sit. I would post it to give you guys a sneak peek, but I submitted it to Chicken Soup. They have a new book coming out called “The Dog Did WHAT?”
Now I’m sure most of you have heard of Chicken Soup for the Soul. Most of you probably have a few of their books. The stories and poems submitted are non-fiction, heart-felt, inspirational. Some make you laugh, some make you cry. Kris thought this poem was so adorable that she begged me to submit it. I don’t think it will get published as it’s obvious that it’s a silly fictional poem. But like Kris said, “The worst they can do is say no.” So I sent it in anyway, but I highly doubt it will get published.
The deadline for entries for this particular book is January 5, 2014. So it’s going to be a while before I hear back (if I hear back at all…I don’t think they contact you if it’s a rejection). So I will post it eventually. But I’m also shooting to make a whole book of these poems and maybe get that published someday. I have four poems so far. Go me!
So I was going to post an excerpt of Detective Florence today, but since I never finished the full manuscript, I’m going to wait. When I finish the novel (hopefully by the end of the month) I’ll post an excerpt of it.
Congrats to all those who won NaNoWriMo this year! 🙂
But I also mentioned that my novel is far from over. I may have hit 50k words, but I still have probably at least another 50k more words to write, if not more. I am writing a murder mystery, after all. This thing takes a lot of planning. I can only imagine what the editing process is going to be like…
Anyway, I continued to write this morning before work. I wrote 2,380 words. I didn’t want to stop at where I left off, but I do have to get ready for work in a few minutes. And I’m not going to have much time to write when I get home from work, either.
I’m glad that I’m still into my novel. I usually have the issue of not finishing what I start. Usually when I write a novel, I get other ideas for other novels and I tend to hop around between novels. I’m actually sticking with this one and I keep coming up with more ideas for it.
Then again, I never finished my outline for the novel and I already wrote everything that I had put onto my outline. So now I’m winging it. We’ll see how this goes.
Today’s Word Count: 2,380 Total Word Count: 52,610 Today’s Page Count: 7 Total Page Count: 167
Well, not complete complete. But I did it! I won! I won NaNoWriMo! I have 50,230 words.
I can’t say that this month hasn’t been easy, but I do wonder why I’ve never won past NaNos before. I mean, this month I have been taking five online undergraduate courses as well as working 40 hours a week, being a Sunday school teacher on Sundays, babysitting on the side, having to continue on with my social life…not trying to sound cocky, but I am really impressed with myself. For once, I had an idea in my head and I actually stuck with it. I forced myself to finish what I started.
Now, the novel isn’t completed. I probably still have another 50k more words to write at the least. But at least I can nab that certificate at the end of the month.
Anyway, yesterday was Saturday and I didn’t write at all. I did homework in the morning, went food shopping, then hung out with my boyfriend for the entire day. I think I needed a break from writing so much (my left wrist is killing me) and there have been a lot of things going on work-wise that has been stressing me out (I’ll explain that one at a later date). Other than the homework that I had to get done because it was due today, I needed a “do nothing” day. But I think it helped because I was able to write so much today. I noticed I was writing less and less every day.
So Kris and I went to church this morning, went to Starbucks, and then we came home and began to write like any other Sunday. However, we both have had a craving for video games lately…she has been playing Harvest Moon and I’ve been playing Pokemon Conquest. So we decided to write for an hour, then play our games for a half hour. Then repeat. It worked because I hit 50k and Kris is now on par with the daily word count (she had skipped writing on Friday and got a little behind).
I created an outline for my novel before NaNo had started, but I didn’t finish outlining the whole novel because November had come. I find it ironic that the last sticky note (each sticky note was a scene) I posted is where I am now. So my non-finished outline brought me up to 50k. I think I got lucky on that one. No writer’s block for me! Well…at least for the NaNo portion.
I’m hoping to finish my novel before NaNo ends, but we’ll see. It seems as though it’s going to be a pretty long one…
I’m hoping everyone else hits their goal! 🙂
Today’s Word Count: 6,467
Total Word Count: 50,230
Today’s Page Count: 20
Total Page Count: 160
First things first: If you haven’t already, take a moment to say a quick prayer to those who have fought, are currently fighting, or have died to save us and our country. Thank you.
So I had a bit of a hard time trying to motivate myself to write today. I don’t know where it came from, but having the day off from work made me kind of lazy. I literally did nothing today. But I did write a little bit. So I guess that’s better than nothing. I’m keeping up with my routine.
I wrote a little over 2,000 words today, but it took me a really long time. I wanted nothing to do with the computer today. I want to play video games. But Kris still needs to write for the day and she isn’t home, yet. By the time she gets home and hits her word count goal for the day, who knows if she’s going to want to play or not. It makes me sad.
Okay, I think I’m just tired because this post is mad short and I’ve been writing it for about an hour already.
I hope everyone is doing well in NaNo and I’m glad most of you liked the character profile I posted yesterday!
Today’s Word Count: 2,033 Total Word Count: 35,684 Today’s Page Count: 6 Total Page Count: 113
I didn’t write as much as I wanted to do today. So I’m glad I got a lot of words in yesterday. Today was still pretty productive, though. I got to hang out with my two sisters and future brother-in-law, so I can’t complain.
Today marks day ten of NaNo. We have 20 more days to go. I hope everyone is doing fantastic on their novels!
As promised, because today is Sunday, I added something new about my NaNo novel, Detective Florence. It’s the character profile for my male protagonist, Detective George Florence. Read it and hopefully you’ll fall in love with him just as I have. I’m also hoping that it will coax you into wanting to read the novel (whenever it’s finished, edited, and published, that is…).
So as I writing today, I realized something…there have been a few years when I’ve tried to write more than one novel for NaNo. Or tried to get to 100k in one or two novels for NaNo. I have about 16k left to write and I feel like I haven’t made a dent in the plot, yet for my novel.
Sure, the plot is moving. But it’s a murder mystery. There’s a lot of things going on. So many questions that need to be answered by the end of the book, but my characters are the ones who need to find the answers so the readers can figure it out, as well. At the pace I’m moving with my word count, it makes me wonder if (without trying this time) I will in fact hit 100k. Or maybe I’m just over thinking things.
But as I said, there are 20 days left. I guess a lot can happen in these next few weeks. Anything can happen.
Today was a fantastic, productive day for me! I wrote over 6,000 words on my NaNo novel and I got this week’s homework all done. The homework didn’t take me as long as I thought it was going to. Yes, it took me a few hours, but I probably would have been able to find time during the week to get it done before today. Then I would have had more time to write. Ah, well.
I didn’t plan on writing as much as I did today. But I learned a lot about my novel today and I think that’s why I kept on going. For example:
1. A few new characters were introduced. One of them being George’s brother and one being George’s former partner–I say “former” because George was laid off from the police department. Let’s keep in mind that George’s former partner, Detective Xavier Barron (this name was pulled out of my rear on account I was writing with the timer going), was never supposed to be in the story. 2. Speaking of Xavier, he is apparently now George’s rival. Every good protagonist needs a rival, right? Well, George has one now. Even though they used to be good friends and again, this was not planned… 3. Not only are the characters learning more about Lilah’s father, but I’m learning a lot more about Lilah’s father. This is good because Lilah’s father’s death is major plot point for the story. 4. Lilah’s elderly neighbor’s husband is deceased. The characters (and again, me) are learning a lot about him–his personality, his background, his death–when he’s not supposed to be a big deal in the story. In fact, this was how much he was not supposed to be in the novel: I didn’t come up with a name for him. But now that he apparently wants his story to be told…I still don’t have a name for me. I wasn’t able to pick a name off my back as easily as I was able to Xavier (and honestly, I think I only thought of that name because X-Men has been on my mind).
So there you have it. It’s the beginning of week two for NaNo and my characters have completely over-run the entire novel. Right on schedule. In other news, my left wrist is in pain. Even though it confuses me because it’s usually my right wrist, but again, right on schedule with week two.
Tomorrow is Sunday, which means I’m going to double-post. I’m going to update my progress and also post a tid-bit on my novel. Last Sunday I posted the summary for my NaNo novel, Detective Florence (Book One). Tomorrow I am going to post a character profile for my male protagonist, Detective George Florence. I hope you guys will look forward to that.
Today is Friday. You guys have no idea how good that makes me feel! I am so exhausted from work, it’s not even funny. Tomorrow is going to be tough because I have to work on my bedroom and my office…the office is officially all set. Kris and I just need to organize it and such and the electrician is coming in next week to finally give us light in there. We’re painting our bedroom soon so we need to go through all our stuff and clean up so it’s less stuff to walk around while painting. Oh, and I guess I should work on some homework, huh? Fun stuff.
But Sunday will be good because I have church in the morning then Kris and I are going to go to Starbucks and spend the entire day writing. I’m hoping to get a lot done. I haven’t written much the past couple of days because I wrote at night instead of the morning. Kris and I worked on our office this morning while it was light out so we could see.
Then Monday is Veteran’s Day so I don’t have work. I again have the entire day to write and get other things done. Like homework…which may or may not happen. Who knows?
But today marks the first day of Week Two for NaNo. Yay! We all made it this far together! Pat yourself on the back if you’ve only gone slightly insane since the start of this thing.
For those of you who are behind, keep going! You still have time to catch up.
For those of you who are on par, great work!
For those of you who are ahead, fantastic!
For those of you who have already won, I hate you. No seriously, if you’ve already hit 50k, that’s wonderful and I applaud you for such speedy work. But I still envy you people for having so much time to write.
Today I ended up hitting my word count because I ended up adding onto a scene from the very beginning of the novel. I was a certain point where the main character needed to know this person very well and…he didn’t. So I needed to cheat and edit a little even though we’re technically not supposed to do that in NaNo. Shhh!
Anyway, we have three more weeks to go. We’ve lasted this long, I think we can stick it out if we really put our minds to it, don’t you think? But I feel like I’ve been doing NaNo for a lot longer than eight days, though…this is going to be a long month, isn’t it?
Today’s Word Count: 2,113 Total Word Count: 23,306 Today’s Page Count: 6 Total Page Count: 75
This morning went a lot better than last night. I got my word count for the day. Yay!
However, I am beginning to feel the effects of NaNo Week Two. I love the plot, my characters, I’m going along with my outline, my first draft is going really well. But I just have so many ideas that I just want it to be automatically written the moment I think of it. I wish it was already written down on the paper, edited, and ready to be published.
But I guess I should be thankful that it’s going so well so far.
Kris and I have plans to write later today, too. I know my post last night was complaining about how I do terrible writing at night, but might as well do what I can whenever I can. We need to tidy up the blue room now that the insulation guys are done and then after that we’re planning on writing. Or playing Ace Attorney, depending on what time it is.
Anyway, if I write tonight, I’ll update again with my awesome word count. If not, then I’ll see you all tomorrow. I hope everyone else’s NaNo novels are going fantastic! 🙂
The insulation guys came back today to finish up in the blue room and my bedroom. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to concentrate well. We had to move Raph into the bathroom, Chip needed to be barricaded in the living room, and Hunter was locked in my parents’ bedroom. Poor animals. Long story short, Chip wouldn’t stop barking so I ended up sitting on the couch with her while playing Pokemon.
So that happened, then I went to work, then I went out to eat with my boyfriend. I got home around 6:30 PM and then began to write. Even though I am ahead in NaNo, I want to write 1,667 words a day anyway.
It took a long time. I was sleepy. I kept making typos. Chip kept distracting me. But I got it done. I wanted to get a little more words in before I went to bed, but I figured that was going to be too much for my small brain to handle. So I had to quit while I was ahead.
I’m going to write tomorrow morning. Apparently I write a lot better when my mind is fresh and relaxed. So I should get a lot more words in tomorrow. Tomorrow should be a much better update.
