Vacation’s All I Ever Wanted

Last week I went on vacation. Hence, the lack of reading and commenting on others’ blogs. I swear I’ll catch up on that throughout the next couple of days.

I spent last week in a cottage with eight other people–my parents, uncle, two young cousins, two sisters, and brother-in-law. We were right on a lake; calm and soothing.

It was our first time at this particular cottage and it was huge; very spacious. Plus, we had four bathrooms. For nine people that was great. We usually end up with a place with only one bathroom. Having four was luxury.

We went swimming, played games, made s’mores, etc. Overall, we had a lot of fun.

I woke up early every morning to have at least an hour of quiet time before most everyone else got up. I sat in the living room with the windows open. Listening to the waves on the lake was soothing. It was so peaceful that I wish it could be like that all the time.

I read five books while there. I think that’s a record for me.

We went shopping and stopped by a bookstore. I bought a book by Lisa McMann and read it in one day. Two days later we went back to the book store and I bought the last two books in the trilogy. Two days later, I finished both books.

I read two other books and was in the middle of my sixth book for the week went we went home.

I think I have to say that was the most relaxful–yet productive–vacation ever.

Now I’ll leave you guys with our gorgeous view of the sunset:

Snowy Weekend

Well, it’s Monday again. I feel as though the weekend never happened. It always goes by way too fast.

Friday: I went to work per usual. I didn’t have my car because it needed some new tires. So, dad drove me to work and my sister Lisa drove me home (we work together). While I was at work my mechanic called saying my car was ready. So Lisa drove me down there, but she hit a pothole on the way and broke her own car. A spring popped out of her brakes or something like that. We got my car and together I drove us back to my house while she left her car to be fixed. A half hour later, we picked it back up good as new.

We also switched back to Verizon from Comcast. Lucy not has a steady Internet connection after struggling for two years. Yay!

Mom and I went food shopping, then my parents, Kris, and me all went out to dinner and then wandered around Barnes and Noble for a bit. There were things I was going to get done Friday night, but I didn’t do any of them because we didn’t get home until eight that evening. Kris and I then watched YouTube videos for a few hours before going to bed. Needless to say, it was not productive.

Saturday: I slept in a bit late, but I had plans to get some things done. You know, like stuff on my blog, writing/editing, etc. I didn’t do any of that. We had a snow storm so it was the perfect day to stay in my pajamas (which I did), relax and do nothing… which I did.

Kris and I sat on the couch, played a few different video games and watched Netflix. It was pretty bad considering we both had plans to be productive. She did hand write a little in a notebook and I did some posts on my blog, but that was it. Then we went back onto the couch. Then again, you need a relaxing break every now and then.

Sunday: Again, not very productive. Went to church, played video games, and did some posts for my blog. There were a couple times Kris and I sat at our desks to get some writing done, but we didn’t have much motivation. Kris got some writing done, I got nothing done. It was pretty bad.

At least I can say I had a relaxful weekend. How was your weekend?

Getting Back My Groove

NaNo

Kris and I had our weekly writing date at Barnes and Noble this morning and guess what? We actually got stuff done! Normally we end up distracting each other whether we’re poking each other, trying to type on the other’s computer, or just talking about anything else that’s not writing. Today though we ended up writing until our laptops yelled at us that their batteries were running low. We each wrote over 2,000 words in the two and half hours we were there.

As I stated in another post–I can’t remember which one–I spent today writing upcoming Short Story Sunday posts. I was in the middle of writing the fifth one when my laptop was about to die. I plan on finishing that today and writing another one so I’ll be good for tomorrow and all through November.

With that being said, I’ll be able to focus strictly on NaNo next month. Even though my posts aren’t lengthy short stories like most, it’s still good practice for NaNo and in general. I have to figure out the maximum words/pages I want my short stories to be for NaNo. Or maybe just write them and see how long they turn out. I read somewhere that short stories are typically/can be up to 10,000 words long. I guess the characters will have to decide if they want to make it that far or not.

Also, I guess my writer’s block (or whatever you want to call it) is gone. Since I haven’t really written in so long, I thought today was going to be tough, but it wasn’t. I should be good to go for November.

I just have to get a head start on some of my projects for school so I’ll have more time to write.

NaNo is one week away, people… get ready!

Distractions

20140402_184354

My Camp NaNoWriMo word count is now 4,032. Yay! This took my three and a half hours. Can we discuss this? I mean, I wrote 2,002 words yesterday in about two hours. Today I wrote 2,030 words in three and a half hours. Want to know why? I will tell you why…

I was distracted. *Gasp!* Yes, I was very, very much distracted. I was distracted by my turtle (as seen in the picture above), my cat who wanted to look out the window so I needed to make him a giant step (I moved the ottoman and put a bin on top of it), my dog (who always decides it’s a good time to play when I’m writing), and the internet. Yes, Lucy decided to give me internet on a day I did not need it.

Speaking of the internet, I found wonderful things on there. I was on Twitter (if you follow me on Twitter, you probably know Twitter was a very big distraction for me) and someone posted a link to a site called Noisli. There are different background sounds on there to listen to as you write. It’s great! I used the coffee shop one.

Yet, I will admit the internet did come in handy at one point. As you know, I’m writing Diary of a Killer and my protagonist apparently has anger issues. Like, really obnoxious anger issues. He explodes at literally nothing. He’s in therapy for it. So I was looking up anger management; symptoms, treatment, etc. I found one helpful site, but if anyone has any information on the subject so I can compare, that would be muchly appreciated!

Anyway, I had an iced coffee and I’m wired right now. It’s probably the reason I had such a short attention span. However, it’s going for 9:00 pm and I unfortunately have work tomorrow, so I need to go wind down so I can go to bed soon.

I hope everyone else is having a productive Camp NaNo. 🙂

Camp NaNoWriMo April 2014

Camp NaNo

I have been anticipating this day since the first day of March. I told myself I was going to edit a novel during the month of March and I did! Hunter is in the process of being re-typed as a second draft. So, that’s that.

I wanted to have plenty of time to plan for Camp NaNoWriMo. I knew what novel I wanted to write, but I didn’t have it planned out. I literally finished editing Hunter on March 30. Then I spent all day yesterday (March 31) doing homework. I worked until 2:30 then got the majority of this week’s homework done because I wanted the first week of Camp to be a productive one.

Would you like to know something sad, though? I went into work yesterday and they asked me, “Are you available every day this week and next week?” I said yes because I need the money, but of course it would happen during NaNo…not to mention this month I have my cousin’s birthday, my father’s birthday, Easter, planning for my sister’s upcoming wedding, homework, and now work on top of it. But, it’ll be good to practice my time-managing skills.

Anyway, I’m writing Diary of a Killer for Camp. I’m sure most of you know I have a completed novel called Diary of a Lover. No, this is not a sequel. It’s a complete different set of characters in a different setting. The only similarity is the title because they are both written in “diary” format. Each chapter is a new diary entry. Oh, they have psychology in common, as well. Of course, I know nothing of psychology so a lot of research will be required, so…this will be fun.

I didn’t get a chance to plan it so when I started writing after work today all I had was the title and that was it. I didn’t even have the protagonist’s name…I didn’t even know the gender. In case you’re all wondering, it’s a boy! Yay, congratulations! As I wrote the first chapter, I started coming up with ideas for the novel, so I’m hoping everything will work out. I’m also summarizing each chapter as I write them to help keep the plot in line as well as for when I finally edit it. Hopefully that will do some good when I research things, too.

I will post a summary soon…ish. I have to actually write one first. 😉

For all of you doing NaNo, good luck! And I hope you reached above and beyond the word goal (I got 2,002 words today). If you guys are participating, feel free to add me as a buddy on NaNo (Fiery_Sapphire) and also let me know your word count and what you’re writing. I’m very interested! 🙂

Starbucks!

Coffee

So Kris and I decided that we were going to go to Barnes and Noble today and write. Yes, we have our office now at home, but we haven’t been to Barnes and Noble in a while. We thought we would go, say hi to the workers behind the Starbucks counter there, but…she ended up getting called into work. So we didn’t go.

We did end up going to Starbucks, though. Since she was closing, we thought we would get coffee and write in our office at home. She continued to edit her novel while I continued to write Inspiration Station.

The more I write that novel the more I realize that I have no idea what I’m doing. When I wrote Detective Florence, I outlined the first part of the novel and continued to outline as I wrote the rest in an attempt to making editing easier for me. I am not outlining Inspiration Station and I never planned on it because this was something I began to write when I had a slight writer’s block. I didn’t expect it to turn into an actual novel. I was still able to write 5,096 words for it, though.

I also changed my schedule, you can see it on the To Do List. Even though I have a lot of free time without work and school, writing 5,000 words a day and editing takes a lot out of someone. So I decided that I’m going to write 5,000 words a day Monday-Thursday and edit Friday-Saturday and relax on Sunday. I can write/edit if I feel like it, but I’m not obligated to do anything. This will be helpful for when school does start back up again (in about a week and a half) and I can do the bulk of my homework on Sunday. Not ideal, but whatever.

So, since tomorrow is Friday that means I’m going to edit. I’m hoping to edit a lot as I would love to self-publish this novella by the end of 2014…wish me luck!

A Great Day

A Writer Needs To Keep Busy…

I did very well today! I had the entire day to stay home and just write. I wanted to get a lot of editing done on Hunter. Honestly, I didn’t get much done on that, but I was still very productive.

I started off with Hunter. I said I had an epiphany with that novel and decided to outline each chapter on individual index cards so I can play around with the chapters to re-order them. Some chapters just might have to be completely re-written. But we’ll keep it easy for now.

I added a prologue to Hunter which was great because it added some background to the marriage of Cat’s (the protagonist) parents. Her mother is dead, but the prologue shows just how much Christina and Charles were not on the same page most of the time. Plus, there’s a part in the novel where a mutant has a message for Cat and I don’t think I ever explained it…yeah. So the prologue kind of added some insight to that, as well. It’ll force me to write that message in some where. So the prologue is actually helpful. I did not add it just because I felt like making the story longer.

I then outlined chapters one, two, and three. I have the entire novel edited on a hard copy, but I’m in the middle of re-typing it all up with the new edits. I add new edits that I didn’t put on the hard copy as I type it up because it’s as though I’m going through the novel a second time. So once I finish typing a new chapter, I’ll write the outline for it. So I was going to try to outline at least up to chapter four, but…I only typed up two pages of chapter four. Oh, well.

As I was going through this, I kept getting  a lot a new ideas for the sequel, Hunted. So I decided to start writing that even though I told myself I was going to wait until Hunter was completely edited. I wrote the prologue and chapter one. I’m on page 20 with 5,775 words. I think that’s an excellent start so far.

Tomorrow I plan on at least getting through chapter four on Hunter and maybe write chapter two for Hunted. Of course, I had a large mocha frap from Starbucks to help me get through today. So we’ll see how productive I am tomorrow.

July Camp: Day Six

Oh, Today…

I was very accomplished today. Because today is Saturday, today is technically a FanFiction day. I told myself that I was going to work on my original novels Monday through Friday and FanFiction on Saturday and Sunday. Of course, since it is Camp NaNoWriMo, I had to work a little bit on Cybertra.

So I got down to business. I came home this morning and beta-read some stories I beta for on FanFiction. I got a little behind so I had five chapters to read and look over from three different people. That took me until 11:00, maybe 11:30. It was a long time. But at least I caught myself up and I got it done and out of the way.

Then, in the mood for Cybertra, I wrote that for a bit. My Camp NaNo count is now 10,066. I’m ahead for the NaNo goal, but still behind for my goal. According to my goal, I should be at 15,000 words today. I wrote 2,436 words today when I’m technically supposed to be writing 2,500, so I was almost there. I was going to try to get back to it later, but I don’t think I will at this point. I wanted to make it to at least 10k and I did, so I stopped.

Then I went onto my FanFiction, which was what I was supposed to be doing all day. I finished the outline for my Warriors fan-fic and also came up a sequel. All I have to do is write the actual story, then I’ll be good to go. I told myself to write for at least an hour every single day. I wrote for way more than an hour, but since it was a FanFiction day, I wanted a good solid hour to be spent on FanFiction. So that’s what I did. I set a timer and got a finished outline done. I could have continued and started writing the story, but I really didn’t feel like it.

Instead, I decided to get back to Cybertra. Yes, I know I just said that I wasn’t going to get back to writing that today because I didn’t. I ended up doing something for school for the Fall semester and after I finished writing this post, I’m going to take a break. I have been writing for about six hours today. Granted, I love it and I feel very productive, I think my brain needs a rest. It’s 90 degrees out so I should probably go outside, get some fresh air, and go swimming or something.

Fresh air…? What is that?

Yay, Updates!

I’m Productive…Sort Of….

Yesterday, June 19, I actually got a good amount of writing done. Kris and I went to Barnes and Noble to be productive! She wrote a story that she started a while ago and I edited some more of Hunter. I got two and half chapters done…then our friend coincidentally ran into us again. Last time it was no coincidence, but this time it was. So the last hour or so of us being there was spent mingling with an old friend…and drinking half of his Starbucks java chip. 🙂 He wasn’t too happy about that, but I was.

So I got some editing done. Because I have three stories that need to be edited, I don’t want to start anything new. The only exception I’ll make to that Camp NaNo, which is next month. In which case I will have four novels to be edited. I decided that I am not going to start anything new until all (or at least two) of the novels are completely edited and ready to be published! Only while I’m looking for publishers I’ll start something new to pass the time. While I edit, if I get an itch to write, I’ll write FanFiction.

Speaking of FanFiction, that’s the other thing I wrote yesterday. Last night I hand-wrote the prologue and first chapter to my Pokemon parody Yellow. Then I typed it up because I was curious how long it was going to be. I hand-wrote 2,019 words. I was impressed with myself. The reason I’m hand-writing it is because when I go on vacation in July, I’m not going to be able to bring my laptop. I’ll be editing, but I also want to be able to write somethings, too.

As I stated, I edited some more of Hunter yesterday. I always write when I start the novel, when I finish, when I start editing, and when I finish editing. Then I record the number of pages, chapters, and words. Sadly enough, I haven’t kept up with that with all of my novels. I’m going to start keeping up with it again though when I start Camp NaNo next month. Anyway, I started that novel back in August 2011. Old, right? Unfortunately, I never recorded when I finished it. I’m sure it was at least six months later that I finished it or something.

My point is that it was almost two years ago that I started the novel. I was 17 at the time, but turned 18 less than a month later. I started the novel August 2 and my birthday is September 1. I don’t know if it was the age or I didn’t have my cup of coffee that day, or maybe I had just written a lot that day and was getting tired. But when I edited yesterday, I was on page 129 in the middle of chapter eleven, and I read this line:

“I know that that would James pleased.”

I have to say that I completely died laughing when I read that. I have no idea what I was thinking–well, I clearly wasn’t thinking at all. That line is 100% messed up! I’m pretty sure I meant:

“I know that James would be pleased.”

So I changed it to that. I just thought I would share. Hopefully this gave you all a good belly laugh as it did for me.

Back to business: Anyone who is doing Camp NaNo next month, the cabins are being assigned starting today! I just checked and I am already in a cabin. I have to admit that I am pretty shocked with my cabin. I have always been in a cabin with four other people. So, including myself, the total amount of writers in a cabin was five. Sometimes there were only four of us all together. Four or five total, never three or anything like that. Guess how many people now? Including me, there are eight of us. How crazy is that? I wonder why they assigned so many people to one cabin…I’m not complaining, but I just think that it’s a little weird. I didn’t know they put that many people in one cabin together.

I think I said everything I wanted to say. I’m focusing on editing, only to write FanFiction when I get bit by the writing bug. The only exception is Camp NaNo. I can’t wait for Camp! 🙂

Too Busy For My Own Good

I Have Too Much To Do….

I believe in my last post I was complaining about everything that I had to get done instead of actually talking about my writing. Yeah…the problem is, I can’t really talk about my writing when I haven’t really been writing.

This past weekend was pretty busy. I can’t remember what I did Friday (isn’t that sad?), but I know that I was at work all day. Saturday morning I had to help my sister move into her new apartment. That didn’t take up too much of the day. Sunday, yesterday, was Father’s Day and the last day of Sunday school. So I had church in the morning and then I had my mom’s side over for a cook out. Then Kris and I  kicked back at the end of the night and played Super Smash Brothers Brawl together as we were both too exhausted to do anything productive.

I still have to start the websites for my work and for my church. I still have to start writing lesson plans for Sunday school next year. I have to clean my areas of the house and I have to continue writing. I have to study for my MTEL. I have to send in my lead teacher certification application. But wait, there’s more! …I’m not going to list any of the rest, though. None of this needs to get done as soon as possible or anything like that, but it would be nice to get them all finished sooner rather than later.

I did get a little writing done yesterday, though. Kris and I decided that we’re slowly going to work on a book together. So I wrote the prologue. Now she just has to write the first chapter. By the way, whenever this book is finished, it’s going to take a really long time to edit. Not because there are two people working on it; therefore there are two different opinions on what should happen, but we have no plot in mind. We are literally just going with the flow. Currently, the novel is called Titleless. Yep.

So I’m working on that, I’m still working on editing Hunter, I have to figure out what I’m doing for Camp NaNo next month, I have been beta-reading a lot of stories lately on FanFiction, and I have been kind of wanting to get back to writing FanFiction. I think I’m going to try working on that soon.

I do know what I am going to be writing for Camp, but I have a lot of kinks that need to be worked out. It’s a superhero novel called Cybertra. I think I have mentioned this idea before on here because I thought of it a long time ago. I just never went through with it. However, after seeing Iron Man 3 in theaters a few weeks ago, it’s put me in the mood to begin the series. I just have to plan a few things out first.

Other than me being ridiculously busy, I don’t think I have too much else to say since I haven’t really been writing too much lately. I plan on getting as much done as I can this week (this week is my last week of work). Then I can focus on babysitting (since I will have no work all summer, I’m going to need as many babysitting jobs as I can get) and writing. So, naturally, I spent all morning before work playing Pokemon and then Super Smash Brothers Brawl online with my boyfriend. Great morning, huh?

But at least I’m updating my blog. That’s technically writing, isn’t it?
