A Day Of Nothing

I called out of work again today. I was giving myself another chance to get my appetite back. I’m still not 100%, but it looks like I will be going to back to work tomorrow; especially since I was capable of walking around today.

However, even though I had the day off, I figured I should continue resting. Then again, because I was able to wander around without getting too dizzy I wanted to do stuff.

I didn’t get anything done. Resting won.

Kris pet sits for my uncle’s dog, Cookie, three days a week and today was one of those days. As you can see below, Cookie and I were content cuddling on the couch… when she wasn’t running around like a mad man, I mean.

Since I was in a decent state of mind and Kris and I put eight computer players duking it out on Super Smash Brothers Wii U for background noise (in other words, we were doing nothing), I got to thinking. I thought about everything I did not get to do this past weekend because I was dead to the world.

1. Query Nature According to Bobby — I was going to do one final look over for my childrens book manuscript and then send it out to a few agents this past weekend. Since the start of 2015, I’ve been slowing gathering agents’ information with the help of the Writers Market. This was going to be my weekend to officially get Bobby on his way, but… that’s going to have to wait until next weekend.

2. Shopping spree — I’m little. I’m short, skinny, petite, whatever you want to call it. I stopped growing a long time ago and because of that I have the same clothes I wore in high school (I’m pretty sure two of my sweaters are from middle school). I don’t particularly mind this because the clothes I wear are nice and comfortable. Plus, I can’t wear anything too fancy because I spend most of my time at work… I work with preschoolers. Enough said.

However, as nice as my clothes are, it would be nice to get some new ones for a change. I found a gift card that was a class gift from the parents at my old preschool. I’ve had it for over a year and still haven’t used it. It has a good amount of money on it, so I thought it would be nice to go through my clothes, donate some, throw away others, and then go shopping.

3. Clean — My bedroom, my office, and the bathroom need to be clean. They need a good dusting and vacuuming. Plus, I want to organize my video games, music, and movies. Also, we just got two new cabinets for the bathroom so I need to organize all that stuff because right now everything is currently sitting on my dresser.

4. Barnes & Noble — I can’t stress this enough. I didn’t get to go to Barnes & Noble this week. That’s what I look forward to every week. Sure, there’s next week… but it’s the principle. Also, I needed to go to Staples. I need more red pens. I have one red pen and it’s running out of ink from editing Detective Florence 2. I have many black and blue pens. Heck, I’m pretty sure I have pink, purple, gold, whatever, but I like red pens for editing. It just makes it more “official” to me. You agree with me, right? Say yes.

I think that’s all I had planned for the weekend. I know it seems like a lot and I didn’t expect to get through all of that over the weekend, but it would have been nice to get a few of those things done.

It is what it is. Tomorrow’s a new day and I’m feeling better. So I’ll start fresh after work tomorrow. Plus, this weekend is a long weekend thanks to Martin Luther King, Jr. So I’ll have Monday as an extra day.

I guess everything does tend to work out in the end, doesn’t it?

November So Far

image

Meet Nano! I bought him about a week before November started. He is the same kind of goldfish as Mikey (R.I.P.), except he’s a smaller kind. I didn’t see much of a difference until I put Nano in his tank and then I realized that Mikey was really big and fat. Anyway, I named him Nano for his size and also because I decided he could be my mascot for NaNoWriMo.

So, it’s the first day of week two for NaNoWriMo. How are we all doing? I hope everyone is up to par on their word counts. Also, today is Double-Up Day which means you should all be doubling your word count and donating to NaNo.

I wrote 3,000 words today. I was going to write more and then… I stopped.

However, my word count is now 19,031 words. I have Monday and Tuesday off of work this week so I plan on going back and forth between writing and homework. I’m hoping to hit 30k by Tuesday.

As you all know I decided to do a collection of short stories this month. Kris gave me the idea to do each short story in 1,000 words. In other words, write 50 short stories in the month. I decided to do that because it’s easier for me to keep track of. If some ideas grow and spark new ideas, I can always add to them come December. Some stories came out good, some came out decent, and some I don’t even think they would qualify as writing. But hey, words are words.

In fact, I used the prompt “magic” for one of the stories and I am now writing part five for it. I thought of a mini idea which may or may not turn into a novel. In the meantime, I’m going to continue writing it in small parts and see where it takes me. If anything else, I’ll use it as a Short Story Sunday project.

So, that’s where I am writing at the moment. I’ve been getting more and more ideas for Detective Florence, so I’m sure I’ll continue on that series once November is over.

My Spanish class is officially over, so I only have four classes to worry about homework-wise until the middle of December. Except, I have essays in three of those classes and a project in the fourth class. Then the usually work and babysitting on top of it all. Plus I may be coming down with something which is just unacceptable.

Nonetheless, I will keep writing my daily 2,000-plus words and try to figure out that homework situation.

I hope everyone had a good first week of NaNo and that it carries on through the second week.

Petsitting

Meet Cookie the Beagle!

I don’t know if I ever mentioned this, but a few weeks ago my cousins got a puppy. Her name is Cookie, she’s a Beagle, and she’s three-months-old. She’s loud, obnoxious, clumsy, and very hyperactive. She’s sleeping in the picture and that’s only because I turned on the TV. Lucky for me, that made her pass out.

I spent my day petsitting her because it was Jackie and Kat’s first day back to school and Uncle Kevin, like always, had work. It was no easy job, I’ll tell you that much. I spent most of the day sitting on the couch instead of at my desk trying to do homework or edit. For some reason, she barked a lot when I was at my desk. She was fine if I sat on the couch. The problem is I have a hard time getting work down on the couch because… well, it’s not a desk.

Cookie kept eating everything. The trash, the plastic bag for the trash, my shoes, my desk, the rug, the couch, the blanket… you name it, she tried eating it. She also discovered she could fit under the couch. So, half the time I was working on the couch I could hear her scuffling around on the hardwood floor under me crying and barking.

Needless to say, I typed up ten pages of Detective Florence today. I have been doing homework the rest of the day. I have most of it done. Most of the stuff I had to do were assignments I couldn’t do with a barking puppy around. My Spanish class, for example, I need to record myself talking. I can’t have Cookie barking and whining the background. My professor and classmates wouldn’t be able to hear me and I probably wouldn’t be able to hear myself. Seriously, she has a loud bark.

For my Fiction class I have to write a few journals and prompts, but I need to time myself. I can’t set a timer and keep pausing it because I notice the dog is eating the rug or getting stuck under the couch. That would just disrupt my creative flow/thinking/whatever the timed writing is supposed to do, thus making the assignment ineffective and pointless on my part.

For two of my classes I have to watch a YouTube video and I also have a test to take. It’s not a real test, it’s an ungraded assessment, but I still want to try my hardest on it. Plus, the test might be timed and I won’t find that out until I start it. I can’t pause it and go back to it later, either. Again… more things I have to do that do not involve a puppy.

I have to petsit her again tomorrow. I’m hoping she’ll sleep a lot so I can get some homework done. Despite all the homework I just mentioned (and that’s not all of it) I’m almost done. I should be able to finish all my assignments tomorrow if I really put my mind to it. Plus, I still have the rest of tonight to keep working on the assignments.

So, tomorrow might not be another big editing day (although I hope to edit at least ten pages again), but at least I’ll get homework out of the way. Then Saturday and Sunday can be spent editing. I think that sounds like a solid plan. I just have to hope it all works out in my favor.

Easter and Other Happenings

Hey everyone! I hope we all had a wonderful Easter yesterday. It was a good day and great weather, too! The Easter Bunny brought me an army of Ninja Turtle Beanie Balls which was awesome, a new SD card for my 3DS, and the Kalos Pokedex as well as the Kalos game guide for the X & Y Pokemon games. I also got bark for Raph so I can finally clean her tank. I’m sure she’ll be happy. In addition to that, Kris got the movie Frozen. Best Disney movie ever!

A lot has been going on. One of the preschool teachers has been out for three weeks straight (plus more) so I’ve been working a lot. I also have school…school has been interesting. I just signed up for classes for the Fall semester. I’m taking a class called Selected Authors…guess who the authors are! J.K. Rowling and J.R.R. Tolkien. I get to read Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings for school. How awesome is that?! It’s pretty awesome, yes.

In addition to work and school, I’ve been busy planning my sister’s bridal shower, which is in August. Plus the bachelorette party, which is in September. Then we have the wedding in October. So that’s been holding my attention a lot. I’ve been babysitting a lot, as well. This week is April vacation so I get a break from work, right? No…stupid me agreed to babysit for four different families and before I realized what I had done, it was too late. I babysat for about four hours today, tomorrow through Friday I have another family for about five hours in the morning. Tuesday night I’m babysitting for a third family and Thursday night I’m babysitting for a fourth family. Wonderful stuff.

I’ve also been slowly trying to clean my bedroom. Kris and I don’t go in there much anymore unless we’re sleeping because now we have our office that used to be Lisa’s room. You guys should have seen all the dust and yuckies in the room. It was terrible. But we’re going to be painting and organizing it soon so it needs to be done. Of course, it should be done regardless, but…whatever. I bought the extended editions of the three Lord of the Rings movies so Kris and I have been pretty busy with those. We’ve been addicted to the series since I had to read The Hobbit for my Science Fiction & Fantasy class.

Well, that’s what’s been going on in my life. I’m sure you all noticed writing was not mentioned at all. Yeah, no. I’ve been failing at my writing recently. I can justify it because I have been really busy (except I guess watching three movies that total to over 12 hours probably doesn’t count as a good excuse), but it doesn’t look like I’ll be winning Camp NaNoWriMo this month.

I started off Camp strong and then I crashed and burned. In between homework and babysitting this week I’m going to really try to kick it into gear, but it’ll be difficult. I’m only at 16,000 or something like that. Kris and I are planning on going to Barnes & Noble on the 27th to write as much as we can though. So can we all keep our fingers crossed for both me and her? That would be much appreciated.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and are writing each and every day unlike me! 🙂

Focus

Focus

Today is a good day to do nothing. It’s cold, it’s raining, it’s just all around “bleh.” I slept in until 9:30 this morning (I never do that) and I am still in my pajamas…it’s 12:45 right now. Christmas Eve is tomorrow and my shopping and wrapping is all done. The semester finished about a week or so ago so I don’t have to worry about homework and I’m out of a job currently, so I don’t even have to worry about that. Well, other than finding a new job. Anyway, just because it’s a good day to do nothing and I don’t have anything to do, that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t do anything. Right?

Yet, I was reading last night and I went to bed when I had about 35 pages left in my book…why? I have no idea. But I decided to finish reading it this morning and I read a page when Hunter jumped on my lap and purred and stared me down while batting my face with his paw. I knew I should have told him that the world doesn’t revolve around him, but instead of doing that, I put my book down, turned on Psych on Netflix, and the two of us cuddled on the couch for a really long time. When he finally decided that he had enough cuddling, he left me in front of the TV all alone. So I turned it off, turned on Lucy, and decided to get a little writing done.

Kris and I have been doing a great job with our writing lately. She started something new that she’s been doing very well with and I’m continuing Detective Florence. I had planned on finishing that novel by the end of November, NaNoWriMo, but I never did. So I was hoping to finish it by the end of December, but I just started writing it again. I don’t know if I’m going to finish it in the next week; especially since Christmas is in two days. I know I’m getting Pokemon X and Pokemon Y among other video games, so I know for a fact that video games are going to be my life at least until New Year’s, if not longer.

Last night I hit 65,000 words on Detective Florence and got up and over 200 pages. I was proud of myself. But then I look at my outline (which I am making as I write the novel), I have such a long way to go. I think this novel is going to go above and beyond 300 pages, I have no idea how many words that’s going to be. It’s getting to the point where I just want the novel to end.

So I’m trying to write as much as I can every day because the next semester for school doesn’t start until January 21, 2014 and I have no idea when work is going to start up for me again. So I need to take advantage of the free time I have right now.

My only issue is that I need to focus on it. Which I have been doing well on, but I know it’s only a matter of time before I get distracted.

July Camp: Day Five

Almost One Week Down…

Raph's Note

I went away for the Fourth of July with my boyfriend and his family. This meant I had to leave poor Raph behind. Of course, I was only gone for one full day. However, Kris took good care of her. She was at work when I came home and when I went down to the basement to say hi to Raph, I found this note. It says:

“Hi Mom! I drove Kris CRAZY this morning when she was trying to write while I was out. You would have been proud! Despite that, she gave me some AWESOME cucumbers and lettuce. She did not, however, change my pool water. You should get on that. I’m sure you had fun in NH, but I bet you missed me! Love, Raphie.”

Now, as you all know, Raph is a turtle, not a dog or a cat. When I first got her, I did a lot of research on turtles. Everything said turtles have no memory at all. They only remember who feeds them and what hurts them. That’s it. Other than that, they don’t really “feel” anything else.

I was surprised when I went down to take her out because as soon as she saw me, she seemed to get really excited. She tried walking through the glass wall of her tank. She always does that when she sees me because she knows when I come down stairs it either means she’s getting food or she gets to come out of her tank for a bit. So I thought nothing of it. But when I took her out, she kept curling up by my foot. I kept moving her away so she could get some exercise, but she kept coming back. Finally, I picked her up and put her on my lap while I wrote. She actually stayed there. I was surprised because she hates sitting on my lap. I think she hates it because it’s not a flat surface and, since we were sitting on my desk chair, it was high up.

So Raph isn’t a cat or a dog, but I think there is some sort of bond between the two of us with all the interaction I give her. So I don’t really believe all those people on Google who said turtles don’t feel anything. I think she noticed that I was gone. Or maybe I’m just over-thinking this? Oh, well. I’m going to pretend that she missed me. 🙂

Anyway, I wrote while she sat upon my lap. I was right on par with the NaNo count, but my word count…I was behind. By a lot. NaNo is 1,613 words a day, I’m trying to get 2,500 words a day. Because I missed yesterday (and I haven’t been writing 2,500 words a day…) I needed to write about 7,000 words in order to catch up to my own goal. According to my goal, I should be at 12,500. I wrote as much as I could before my cousins came over (but I kept getting distracted…) I wrote a total of 2,027 words leaving my Camp count at 7,630. Not bad.

I’ve been trying to write for at least one hour every single day. I had about three hours to write and even though I kept getting distracted, I did in fact write for a full hour…I think. I’m pretty sure. I don’t see how I couldn’t have written for at least one full hour.

Anyway, tomorrow my goal is supposed to be 15,000. Do we think I can catch up? Eh, we’ll see.

Heeere’s Kitty!

Okay, even if I wanted to get some writing done right now…I couldn’t.

Hunter takes up one half of my desk while Lucy, my laptop, takes up the other half. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem if I was using Lucy to write, but I’m trying to use my wonderful, beautiful rainbow animal print notebook. So…I’m screwed.

Anyway, I just thought that I would pop-in and give you guys an excuse as to why I didn’t write all day today…well, I’m sure I’ll write at some point today, but just in case. There’s my excuse. 😀
