Musical Mondays: Try Everything By Shakira

This is kind of an oldie at this point, but this is such a good song. (Zootopia is a great movie too!)

I fell in love with this song’s catchy beat, but you can’t beat the lyrics either. Zootopia had a great message about following your dream and never giving up and this song just puts that message into a catchy theme.

I used to listen to this song on a loop because it reminds me a lot of me. I often put too many things on my plate and I’m always wanting to try new things. I’m always wanting to create new things. I resonate with this song because I truly do try everything and with this whole writing and blogging thing? Well, I haven’t given up yet.

Musical Mondays: Zero By Imagine Dragons

Musical Monday: Zero by Imagine Dragons | Music Video | Mental Health | Blogging | RachelPoli.com

This is a fairly new song to me. When my sister saw the Wreck-It Ralph 2 movie, Ralph Breaks the Internet, she was addicted to this song for a little while. I heard it and was too addicted, but soon forgot about it. I saw the movie for the first time just a couple weeks ago and I had forgotten all about this song.

When I first heard it a while ago, it reminded me of me. It reminded me of when I was high school and I still feel like this at times, though not nearly as often.

This is a catchy, up-beat song but the lyrics sing a different tune. I don’t know if I’m the only one who thinks this or if the song was even meant to do this, but it reminds me on the contrast of your mind going crazy and yet you’re putting on a smile and going about your day as though nothing is wrong. The lyrics are your mind, but the catchy tune is the smile plastered on your face just getting through the day.

Overall though, it’s a good song. And I’m glad I don’t feel like this all the time anymore.

Musical Mondays: I’ll Be There For You By Yungtown (Feat. PeanutButterGamer)

Musical Mondays: I'll Be There For You by Yungtown feat. PeanutButterGamer | Animal Crossing | Anxiety | Music Video | Blogging | Inspiration | RachelPoli.com

Usually when I post Musical Mondays it’s an inspirational song to showcase being you, going for your dreams, and to just keep moving forward. Keep working, you’ll get there soon enough.

This song is inspirational to me in a different way. It’s called “I’ll Be There For You” by Yungtown, featuring PeanutButterGamer. Both of them are YouTubers I watch and listen to quite often – okay, more like all the time. Both of them are gamers and Yungtown is a singer/rapper. They came together to create this song and music video.

The video is from the video game Animal Crossing. They used the music from the game to aid along the tune of their song, which worked out nicely. It’s calming and soothing.

The song itself, however, is about friendship, long distance, anxiety, and loneliness.

This song resonates with me so well – in fact, I even cried when I first heard the song when they released it.

I only have a handful of really good friends in real life. Which, in my opinion, is enough. I don’t need a large group. However, I do have a ton of friends through the internet from social media and this blog. My anxiety gets to me quite often, especially when it comes to relationships. I also work from home so it’s hard to relate to some of my older friends and, in the end, you lose touch with one another.

So, this is a reminder to you guys – and to myself – that you’re not alone and I’m always here for you. Keep your friends close.

Musical Mondays: This Is Me (The Greatest Showman)

This Is Me by Keala Settle | Musical Mondays | Inspiration | The Greatest Showman | RachelPoli.com

I thought we were due to have another Musical Monday post. There’s been so much hype around The Greatest Showman and while I have yet to see the movie, I’ve listened to the soundtrack over and over again.

All the songs are so inspirational and I think it speaks to anyone who wants to inspire people, make a difference in the world, or who are just creative at heart.

The song This Is Me is performed by Keala Settle and she has a beautiful voice. It’s all about being you, shooting for your dreams, and not letting anyone say you can’t do something or get in your way.

When you’re trying to make a living as a writer, blogger, freelancer, whatever… it’s really hard to stay positive. You just have to take it day by day. Work hard and stay focused. Remember you can do it no matter what. Your time will come to shine.

I chose this particular video for the song because Keala was nervous to sing the song. I felt as though the song taught her a lesson in a way. I found it inspirational. The actual song doesn’t start for about a minute in, but I recommend listening to the whole video anyway.

Enjoy.

I am not a stranger to the dark
Hide away, they say
‘Cause we don’t want your broken parts
I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one’ll love you as you are
But I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Another round of bullets hits my skin
Well, fire away ’cause today, I won’t let the shame sink in
We are bursting through the barricades and
Reaching for the sun (we are warriors)
Yeah, that’s what we’ve become (yeah, that’s what we’ve become)
I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
This is me
and I know that I deserve your love
’cause there’s nothing I’m not worthy of
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
This is brave, this is proof
This is who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come (look out ’cause here I come)
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum (marching on, marching, marching on)
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I’m gonna send a flood
Gonna drown them out
Oh
This is me

Musical Mondays: What Are You Waiting For

I’ve noticed that I haven’t done a Musical Monday in a while. (I’ve also noticed that this is the third one and they’re all six months apart. I didn’t plan that.)

September is coming to a close. Everyone went back to work, back to school, and we’re all in our usual routines again.

While I’m happy, this is a big strange for me. For the past eight years, I’ve always had to deal with that first day of school. I’ve had to deal with working with new teachers, working with new students. I’ve been a robot; my body and mind catering to the preschool schedule, singing the days of the week and learning how to spell my name at the same time each and every day.

I don’t have that anymore.

I quit my job back in June at the end of the previous school year and honestly, I haven’t looked back. But also, it hasn’t quite sunk in until this month.

I usually buy myself some new supplies, a couple new outfits here and there, etc. But I didn’t this year. I bought new supplies for my writing, but I do that all year round. I didn’t buy any new clothes (though I really need to…) because guess what? I can stay in my pajamas all day if I really wanted to.

This song that I’m about to show you is one of my favorites. I love Nickelback. They can be hardcore rock, but can also be very inspiring. When this song first came out in 2014, I thought a lot about myself. About my writing and blogging.

I had been complaining about wanting to go full time with it for so long, but not having enough time to actually pursue it.

Then I did it. I finally figured things out, decided to do what’s right for me, what’s going to make me happy.

Needless to say, this song speaks loudly to me. I hope you enjoy it and it speaks to you, too.

LYRICS

What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
Are you waiting on a lightning strike
Are you waiting for the perfect night
Are you waiting till the time is right?
What are you waiting for?

Don’t you wanna learn to deal with fear
Don’t you wanna take the wheel and steer
Don’t you wait another minute here
What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for

You gotta go and reach for the top
Believe in every dream that you got
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
And don’t you be afraid if you fall
You’re only living once so tell me?
What are you, what are you waiting for?

Are you waiting for the right excuse?
Are you waiting for a sign to choose
While you’re waiting it’s the time you lose
What are you waiting for?Don’t you wanna spread your wings and fly?

Don’t you wanna spread your wings and fly?
Don’t you wanna really live your life?
Don’t you wanna love before you die?
What are you waiting for?
What are you waiting for?

You gotta go and reach for the top
Believe in every dream that you got
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
And don’t you be afraid if you fall
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?

Tell me what you’re waiting for
Show me what you’re aiming for
What you gonna save it for?
So what you really waiting for?

Tell me what you’re waiting for
Show me what your aiming for
What you gonna save it for?
So what you really waiting for?

Everybody’s gonna make mistakes
But everybody’s got a choice to make
Everybody needs a leap of faith
When are you taking yours?

What are you waiting for?

You gotta go and reach for the top
Believe in every dream that you got
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
And don’t you be afraid if you fall
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?

You gotta go and reach for the top
What are you waiting for?
Believe in every dream that you got
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?
What are you, what are you?
What are you, what are you waiting for?
What are you, what are you
What are you, what are you waiting for?
