Today is Friday. You guys have no idea how good that makes me feel! I am so exhausted from work, it’s not even funny. Tomorrow is going to be tough because I have to work on my bedroom and my office…the office is officially all set. Kris and I just need to organize it and such and the electrician is coming in next week to finally give us light in there. We’re painting our bedroom soon so we need to go through all our stuff and clean up so it’s less stuff to walk around while painting. Oh, and I guess I should work on some homework, huh? Fun stuff.
But Sunday will be good because I have church in the morning then Kris and I are going to go to Starbucks and spend the entire day writing. I’m hoping to get a lot done. I haven’t written much the past couple of days because I wrote at night instead of the morning. Kris and I worked on our office this morning while it was light out so we could see.
Then Monday is Veteran’s Day so I don’t have work. I again have the entire day to write and get other things done. Like homework…which may or may not happen. Who knows?
But today marks the first day of Week Two for NaNo. Yay! We all made it this far together! Pat yourself on the back if you’ve only gone slightly insane since the start of this thing.
For those of you who are behind, keep going! You still have time to catch up.
For those of you who are on par, great work!
For those of you who are ahead, fantastic!
For those of you who have already won, I hate you. No seriously, if you’ve already hit 50k, that’s wonderful and I applaud you for such speedy work. But I still envy you people for having so much time to write.
Today I ended up hitting my word count because I ended up adding onto a scene from the very beginning of the novel. I was a certain point where the main character needed to know this person very well and…he didn’t. So I needed to cheat and edit a little even though we’re technically not supposed to do that in NaNo. Shhh!
Anyway, we have three more weeks to go. We’ve lasted this long, I think we can stick it out if we really put our minds to it, don’t you think? But I feel like I’ve been doing NaNo for a lot longer than eight days, though…this is going to be a long month, isn’t it?

Yesterday was a very productive writing day for both my and Kris. We wrote our NaNoWriMo novels together and she was able to make it up to par while I was able to get myself way ahead. It must have been all that Starbucks. 😉
Anyway, I think what really helped us out was that we weren’t looking at the word count in the bottom left screen on Word. I took my Donny, my iPod, and Kris took her phone, and we leaned them up against the computer screen right in that spot. Then I took my phone, set the timer for 30 minutes and we kept going until the timer went off. The point was to see how much we could write in that amount of time. We ended up writing a lot more than we thought–we each banged out about 1,000 words. It made the writing process go by a lot faster and I think we got more work done that way than we would have if we were just typing while staring at the word count slowly going up.
We continued to do that after realizing how well it worked. But every time I wrote for 30 minutes, I realized that I wrote exactly five pages, too. I decided that if it only takes me 30 minutes to write five pages, why not try to get my goal to be “write five pages a day?” (yes, I know the picture says one page…)
I decided that’s going to be my New Year’s resolution. Yes, I know that’s two months away, but I thought I might as well get started on it now. I can get myself into the habit of it so it might be easier to accomplish next year. Especially since it’s NaNo right now, I’m going to need all the pages I can get to boost my word count.
So I wrote for about an hour and a half to two hours this morning. I wrote while my cousins got themselves ready for school and I wrote after they left. I have about an hour or so in between the time they leave for school and the time I have to start getting ready for work.
But it was productive nonetheless. I wrote about six pages and 3,398 words. It was a good morning. I had to have two cups of coffee, but I can blame part of that on the weather (I think it’s in the 40s…ew).
Also, I stopped posting my NaNo username at the end of my posts, but lately a lot of people have been asking for it. You can find my NaNo profiles on the “Come Find Me” page of the blog or you can look me up: Fiery_Sapphire (you can also click my username to be brought to my profile). I love having Writing Buddies, so feel free to add me!

No, today is not “Monster” Monday because Halloween is coming up. No, today is “Monster” Monday because…well, it’s Monday. Anyone in their right mind does not like Monday. Now if a new school week didn’t start on Monday and I didn’t have to go back to work after a nice two-day weekend, then I wouldn’t mind Monday. Poor Monday. Hated by everyone and is only a part of the week because there has to be some day in the week that needs to get us started on productive activities.
So it’s Monday. The last Monday in October. Thursday is Halloween. Who’s dressing up this year? I’m not. I wanted to, but all the costumes or raunchy and way too expensive for my liking. If my car didn’t break down on me then maybe I wouldn’t mind the money part, but I am still paying for my school bill for this semester, so maybe it’s for the best. However, it still makes me a bit sad because Kris and I usually coordinate together. One year she was a cop and I was a SWAT team member. The year before that she was Batman and I was Robin. But between my bank account starving and our conflicting work schedules, we just couldn’t do it this year. Sad day. Good news is, Kris actually got the day off from work on Halloween. This is the first year in…well, a few years.
On a brighter note, NaNoWriMo starts Friday. On a dimmer note, I am no where near ready for it to start.
Not yesterday, but the Sunday before yesterday, Kris and I had a very productive day. We planned our NaNo novels together. Kris is not a planner. I am a planner. Sometimes. I like the idea of planning and sometimes I plan and sometimes I don’t. When I do plan, sometimes it works out in my favor and other times it doesn’t. However, it was a breakthrough for Kris because she never does anything like that. She just writes whatever comes to her mind. Which is fantastic, don’t get me wrong. However, we wanted to write together and neither one of us wanted to start anything new because NaNo was just right around the corner.
So that Saturday night, October 19, we grabbed a novel and picked random sentences out of it. We then each took the same sentence and used it as the first sentence for our prompts. We wrote six prompts altogether before we got too tired and went to bed. The first four prompts we had the goal to write 200-500 words. The last two prompts we bumped up the count to 500-800 words because I kept going over the 500 limit on the other ones and had to keep editing out words. It was a pain. I’ll probably post these prompts on here soon enough. They’re not A+ material, but they’re decent enough. I wrote each prompt in like, 10 or 15 minutes at the seat of my pants, so you have to expect less than an A+.
Saturday night was a great night. Then Sunday we went to church, went to Starbucks (my favorite place on earth), and we turned on Pokemon Ranch on our Wii (for background noise…if anyone knows/has this game you know how pointless is it, yet still amusing to watch and listen to), and we planned our NaNo novels.
Let me give a little background on this: When Kris was at work one day I found a poster board in my house, got out my index cards and sticky notes, and went to town. On the index cards I made a list of characters, plot points, questions that need to be answered by the end of the novel, etc. On the sticky notes, I wrote events that need to happen in the novel. Then I move them around and attempt to put them in order. When Kris got home from work she saw what I was doing and something must have clicked in her head. So, naturally, we turned on the Ace Attorney game on the Wii and played that.
But that Sunday she grabbed her own poster board and we shared my index cards and sticky notes. Neither one of us “finished,” but since she has Halloween off from work, which is the day before NaNo, maybe she and I can dress up as writers and plan some more.
I hate that NaNo starts on a weekday. Kris and I can’t plan until midnight and then begin writing because I have to get up early Friday morning to get my cousins off to school then I have work 10-6. Meanwhile Kris is working 12:30-9:30 on Friday. But she always has Sundays off. So we decided that every Sunday in November, we’re going to go to church, go to Starbucks, then write until it’s time to go to bed. Except for the first Sunday…I agreed to babysit at 6 in the evening about a month ago. I’m stupid…
Anyway, that’s where we stand right now. Last week before NaNo…AAAAAHHHH!!!!
I fell off the face of the earth again, haven’t I? Sorry about that. Things have been so hectic lately that I haven’t had too much time to do things for myself…like write. Every since school and work started back up again, that’s all I’ve had time to do and to think about.
I got promoted at work. I am now a lead teacher in the classrooms. This also means I’m 40 hours a week. I work 10-6 Monday-Friday. I love it, but it makes me extremely tired at the end of the day. I’m not in the mood to do anything–write, homework–all I want to do is sit on the couch, put my feet up, and pig out while watching TV or playing video games. I don’t want to do anything that requires thinking.
School has been a lot…even though it’s not. I’m taking five online classes. I’m majoring in English, and so far it’s just been a whole lot of reading and no writing. It’s not bad…when you look at the assignments on paper, it looks like a lot, but it’s really not. The only bad thing about it was that school started September 4 and I just finished all my homework for weeks one and two. We just started week three. The reason for this is because my textbooks didn’t come…and I’m still missing one. So it’s not a lot of homework, but it kind of was because I had double homework. As soon as one of my professors found out I had gotten my book, he said, “Great! You should have no problem getting all the assignments done by tomorrow morning.” Um…I had to read like 600 pages, take a quiz, two discussion boards…it was a lot. How am I supposed to get that all done?
But now I’m hoping things will calm down a bit now I have my textbooks. Well…except one. I have five classes, all the homework for each class is due on Sundays, so I decided to work on one class each day. That would mean I would finish my homework for all five classes by Friday night. Not only would I get my assignments done and in early, but this will also give me Saturdays and Sundays off.
Sunday school started, too. Sunday afternoons are going to be spent preparing for the following Sunday. So I guess I really only Saturdays off to do literally whatever I want–whether it be writing or some sort of excuse to not write even more than I already have been not writing.
So, this is what my schedule looks like:
Sunday — Church 9-11:30, plan next week
Monday — Wake at 5:30/5:45am, homework, get cousins ready for school, homework, work 10-6, homework, dinner, homework, bed
Tuesday-Friday — See Monday
Saturday — Hopefully do whatever I want
Seriously, that’s why I have not been writing or updating this thing at all. My life does not include me having a social aspect or creative aspect to it.
With my textbooks and this plan I have for my classes and homework I should find time to write and such. I am going to be writing for at least a half hour a day, though. I have a half hour break at work so I decided to spend it by writing something–anything–in a notebook.
This is all the updates I have for now. I have to get ready for work soon. But I do hope I’m able to start updating this regularly again. I want to get back into the swing of things…that does not include school, but what can you do about that?
Hey everyone! I was invited to do some interview-like questions. So I’m going to post that first and then give you a quick update on my progress!
The other day, Tiffany Metzger commented on my blog and told me about Blog Hopping and Booky Questions and tagged me in it. I am more than happy to participate in it. Thanks, Tiffany!
So here are some questions of my work-in-progress novel:
What is the (working) title of your book?
Where did the idea come from for the book?
As weird as this is going to sound, I thought of the idea when I was at work. I work at a preschool and the other teacher took the kids outside while I stayed behind to clean up the classroom a little bit. While I was setting up the art table, the idea just randomly popped into my head. I started saying to myself, “Remember when you were little and everyone was always wondering why the kids never took over the school? Because it’s obvious that the students out numbered the teachers.” Everyone has though about that sometime or another while they were in grade school, right? I thought it would be funny to turn it into the novel, but I wasn’t serious about it. Then I was in the shower a few days later and I thought of the idea again. I started coming up with characters and scenes and all that fun stuff. I got really excited and really into the idea, so I decided to write a book about what would happen if a group of students really did take over the school. I have no idea what made me think about it, but I’m glad I did.
What genre does your book fall under?
Young adult drama. High school stuff, just like any other young adult drama. The only difference is that none of my characters sleep around with any of their teachers, no one smokes or does drugs, and none of the girls fight over one guy.
Which actors and/or actresses would you choose to play your characters in the movie rendition?
Well, there are six main characters. I honestly have no idea who would play who. Most of the actors and actresses I really know are adults and my characters are 17- and 18-years-old. So I guess I’ll just use Disney Channel stars as an example even though I would never want them playing any of my characters. David Henrie, he’s hot, so he can play Simon. Selena Gomez, I love her, she can be Roxana. Although they would be weird because they used to play brother and sister, but whatever. Dylan and Cole Sprouse could definitely play Jay and Darren, who are twins. That leaves Bella, the airhead…Bridget Mendler. Not that I’m saying anything against Bridgit, but I can just picture her being good at play a space cadet.
What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
To make history and be the most epic senior class of their high school, a group of five seniors with the help of their junior friend decide to take over the school without realizing the consequences and thinking about how out of hand everything can get. <—Synopsis’ suck. That’s all I have to say.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Not self-published, but I don’t really plan on getting an agent.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
So far, it’s been about a month and a half. I haven’t finished the novel, yet, but I am super close!
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
The Wave by Todd Strasser. I read that book my sophomore year of high school and I loved it! It’s about a group of students who don’t understand the Holocaust. They don’t get how people can just fall in line behind someone so bad. So the teacher, trying to help them understand how easy it is to be a follower. He starts “The Wave” where he is the leader and all the students are the followers. However, when it’s time to stop, the students keep going with it and things get out of control. I highly recommend it.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
I have wanted to be an author since I was ten-years-old. I have been writing novels left and right since then and I never finished them. The novels I did finish, I had no motivation to edit. However, when I can up with this idea, I just got so excited. I love the characters, I love the plot, I love everything about the novel. I usually know the beginning and end and get stuck in the middle. That didn’t happen when I wrote this book. Idea after idea kept popping into my head and my fingers never rested once on the keyboard. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, the actual idea itself inspired me to write this particular book.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Honestly, I believe everyone has once asked themselves why no one has ever taken over the school before and this basically has the answer, even though it’s my version of what might happen. All the characters age in this book. Minds are changed and some grow up while others don’t. Roxana is against the idea, the twins and Brad love the idea, Bella and Simon don’t know which side they are on in the first place. And, of course, love is also in the mix.
Again, thanks to Tiffany for including me in this. Maybe I’ll post those questions for all of my books, who knows? Feel free to post this on your own blog, as well! I have no idea who started this, but it was a good idea and I thank that person.
Now, I don’t have big news to update. I wrote 557 words today. My boyfriend and I are going away this weekend. Remember I said I wasn’t going to change my word count in case I couldn’t hit 50k this weekend? Well, it’s a good thing I was right because this getaway is totally last minute. Anyway, I tried to write a lot this morning because I’m not going to be able to write tomorrow and possibly not Monday, either. However, I just didn’t have the muse to do so.
I do plan on taking my notebook with me so if I have time to get anything done I can write a few notebook pages of Far Away. However, that is not going to count towards my NaNo word count because I have 20 pages so far and I do not want to count all of that up. When I finish the notebook, I’ll type it up and then count all of the words. Then it will be added to my 365,000 word count goal.
In other news, this week is April vacation. I still have school, sadly, but I do not have work. So I plan on writing big time when I come home this weekend. I plan on getting to 50k right when I come back and then hopefully changing my word count goal to 75k. We shall see what happens!
Anyway, I won’t be posting again until either Monday or Tuesday. So everyone better get a lot of writing done! 😀

There is no picture today because I forgot to take one. Sad day. 🙁
However, I had a fantastic day today! I don’t know about the rest of you. I got a lot of things done. I am exhausted out of my mind, but I feel great! I wrote a lot today for Camp NaNo and my sister and I re-organized our room. We still need to do a bit of cleaning up and organizing, but we made a pretty good dent and I have to say that our room looks great!
Back to writing, though…I wrote a total of 5,016 words today! I started at 20,002 words from yesterday and I wanted to make it up to at least 25,000 before I stopped for the day. I have 25,018 words for Saving Each Other so far! Yay for me!
I explained how this “novel” is going to work, right? Well, I’ll explain again just in case I didn’t in an earlier post…I planned on the Three V’s Prophecy (it’s a working title) to be three series long. Each series would have a total of five books making fifteen books. Of course, that was way too much. My sister gave me the idea to turn it into a trilogy. Each “series” would be in one book. So each book is going to have parts. The first part of the first novel is Saving Each Other. So, as you may have guessed, Saving Each Other isn’t going to be long like any ordinary novel. I plan on each part being between 25,000-50,000 words long. So if each part is 50,000 words long, the whole novel (all three novels) will be 250,000 words long. I have no idea how many pages that would be, but it’s going to be big. Did that explanation make any sense?
For Camp NaNo I plan on finishing the Saving Each Other part and then finish Take Over. If, by some miracle, I finish both by the end of April I may or may not continue onto the next part, which is called Seeing Things. Of course, that depends on whether I’m sick of the characters or not. I may start a new project instead.
That’s all the news I have for today. Tomorrow is Monday and it’s also day eight, which means that we’ve officially survived an entire week of Camp NaNo! Go us! I plan on writing another 5,000 words and hopefully making it to 30,000 by the end of the day. I have a four hour gap between school and work I really hope to get it all done.
Good luck on week two everyone! 🙂
2013: 106,797/365,000 Words Written
2013: 1,749/18,250 Pages Read
Let’s begin with last night: I wrote some more of Take Over, but only 2,063 more words of it. I planned on writing as much of Take Over as I possible could up until midnight. Then when midnight came I was going to start writing Saving Each Other for Camp NaNo. That didn’t happen. I got tired of writing Take Over and my fingers felt as though they were going to fall off. I was in bed at 10:30. Yeah.
But that’s okay because I woke up this morning and got started on Saving Each Other right away. I am happy to announce that I have written 6,350 words for Saving Each Other so far. I was going to continue on, but I wanted to post on here first because I have to go to work soon.
That picture is a sticky note. I tend to glance down at the bottom left-hand corner to see how many pages and words I have. I put the sticky on the screen blocking it so I wouldn’t look at the words. Then I set my timer to an hour so I only got to check how many words I got written every hour. It helped because I tried to get more and more words each hour trying to break the previous record.
According to my Camp NaNo stats, at the rate I’m going I should finish on April 8. I have no idea if that will actually happen or not, but I do have a lot of time this week. I got lucky this year: I only have work today because my class was cancelled. Tomorrow my class is usually 10:30-2, but my professor has a funeral so class tomorrow is going to be 12-2. That gives me an extra hour and a half to write. Then I have work in the afternoon. Wednesday I can write before class (which is 9-10:15) and after class, before work. I have work at 2. Thursday I can write before class (which is 10:30-11:45) and then before I babysit, which is 3-6. Friday I have work 11-6, but I don’t have school that morning so I can use that time to write. I have all day Saturday and all day (after church) on Sunday. I think I can get a whole lot done.
I hope I get a lot done because I plan on writing the entire Saving Each Other part…not just 50,000 words of it. On top of that I want to finish Take Over. I’m going to finish Saving Each Other first and then finish Take Over. I am also going to include whatever words I write for Take Over into my word count for the month. But I’ll write 50,000 words on Saving Each Other first so I’m technically not cheating.
I hope everyone is off to a great start just like I am! We have 29 more days to go!

You know how I said that I wanted to make it to 50,000 words on my novel Take Over by April 1st before Camp NaNoWriMo starts? Well, I actually did it! I was at 30,056 or something like that and on Tuesday I wrote 10,070 words and on Wednesday I wrote 9,874 words! I made it to 50,000 words even and I hope to continue until the beginning of April!
The funny thing is that I’m almost almost done with the novel. I had about four more parts left to write and then I think that’s it. So it shouldn’t take me too long to finish. I want to continue writing it until April so I think there is a good chance that I actually can finish the novel before Camp NaNo starts. However, I am not going to push myself. I got lucky with writing about 20,000 words in just two days.
I’m on Spring Break this week, but I still have work. Monday we had a snow storm during the night so I had a snow day at work on Tuesday. That’s why I was able to write so much. It took between four and five hours, but I made it to 10,070 words. I think that has been the most I have ever written in one day. I never posted on here after I accomplished that because when I finished it was about ten o’clock at night and I was exhausted. Not to mention that my wrists were killing me.
On Wednesday, my sister and I went to Barnes and Noble to write for a little bit before I had to go to work at two o’clock. I got up to 48 thousand and something words after being at Barnes and Noble for about three and half hours. So I was determined to make it to that 50k that night when I got home from work because it was just another couple thousand words.
In other news, I figured out what I am going to be writing for Camp NaNo! I’m going to be writing Saving Each Other. Yes, I already wrote that, but it died along with my flash drive. It’s still fairly fresh in my mind so I thought that I could re-write it from memory. The novel kind of sucked anyway, so maybe this will go a little better. I have a ton of novels planned out for this series, but (and I think I already said this when I first wrote the novel) I’m going to condense it all. I have three series for it, each series being five books long. I’m going to turn it into a trilogy and each novel will have all five parts in the one book. So the books will be fairly long, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully it will all work out in the end.
It’s Friday morning right now and I wrote this post Wednesday night…but I had to modify it because before I could post it because Wednesday night my laptop decided it wasn’t going to talk to the Wi-Fi anymore. So it would be kind of weird to post something on Friday that talked about “yesterday” being Tuesday and “today” being Wednesday.
I have work today (yes, Friday) from 11:00 to 5:00/6:00. Then I have this Family Night thing to go to that’s happening at my cousin’s school. Yipee for me…but it was fun last year, so I’ll try to think positive about it even though I really don’t want to go. In any case, I’m going to try to get some writing done this morning before I have to go to work. I have about two hours. Then maybe later on tonight I can get something done. The only thing is that the Family Night ends between nine and ten at night, so who knows how tired I am going to be by the end of that…especially working six or seven hours with itty bitty children all afternoon.
Wish me luck in finishing a novel in literally a month without it being NaNo! 🙂

Today, just like any other Monday, I had class until 9:15. I drive my friend to school now (yes, I finally got my driving license two weeks ago…I don’t know if I ever mentioned that.) and she doesn’t get out of class until 11:45. I could have told her that I was unable to drive her home, but I decided to be a nice friend. It works out because now I have at least two hours to write.
I did so well last week and now this week…nope. I wrote 1,946 words. Bad? No, not at all. Could have written more? Of course. Can I continue writing since I still have another hour? Yes. Am I going to? Um…
Like I said, I wrote almost two thousand words which is better than nothing. I didn’t write at all this weekend (but I should have) so I feel kind of bad that I didn’t write anything today. Of course, when I get home from work tonight, I’m going to sit down at my computer and attempt to get something done.
Do you want to know why I’m not in the mood to write right now? I’ve actually been reading. Yes, I have been reading. Amazing, right? I still have that goal to read 18,250 pages (50 pages a day) by the end of the year and I’m moving quickly on it.
I saw the movie Beautiful Creatures and I bought the book on Saturday. I am already half way through it. It was a great movie and a fantastic read. I read the book most of the weekend. It was relaxing on account that I had a cold all weekend.
I have that I read 932 pages so far. I am currently reading three books at once, so…I’m going to leave it at 932 until I finish one or all of the books because I’m already to getting confused and losing track. This is why GoodReads is a fantastic website. It will help me keep track off all the books I read for 2013 and then I can add up the pages.
Anyway…that is all for now. Hopefully I will get more writing done. I made the mistake of bringing Beautiful Creatures with me to school, so now I feel tempted to read it. Bye!

It’s day two of classes and I have a good amount of homework so far. And this is only two classes. My other class meets on Mondays, but I don’t think I’ll have too much homework for that class, anyway. Science is only seven assignments for the whole semester, so I could sit down and do those all that once if I really wanted to…and I just might. It will be one less thing that I will have to worry about this semester.
Anyway, I’m telling you this because I did not write at all yesterday. I was in class from 10:30-2 and then I had work at 2:30-5. I did really well. The first day of classes went good, work went good…but it was a long day. I was fine and then as soon as I stepped into work I immediately became drained…and I didn’t even do anything with the kids, yet. But that was alright because they all got picked up early, so I wasn’t complaining.
Today I had class 9-10:15. It was math, so it was boring and horrible. I have the same professor as last semester, so I know that I’m going to be suffering a lot in that class because she does not know how to teach. Anyway, I’m waiting for my friend to get out of class so we can go home and relax a bit before we have work.
But here’s the plan for today: I’m at school until 11:45, which is when my friend’s class ends, and then I have work 2-5ish again. Random ti-bit about my work: we close at 5:45, but all the kids we have this year get picked up really early. We leave when the last kid leaves, so I end up getting out of work between 4:30 and five. That’s why I tell people that I work until 5ish. But I still get paid until 5:45, which is nice.
Back on topic: I’m at school for another half hour or so and then I have work 2-5. I’m probably going to try to get some homework done in between that. After work I’m going to try to get some more homework done again, depending on what I don’t have done already. After all of that, I’m going to try to get an hour of writing in.
Tomorrow I have school and no work, but I’m going out to eat with the people I work with, so tomorrow is going to be hard trying to write, as well. We’ll have to wait and see how that goes…right now I’m just trying to focus on today.
So tomorrow I will either post again about not writing tonight/tomorrow or that I did write tonight/tomorrow! The suspense is going to kill you, I know.
Alright, so the internet on my computer is finally working again. Let’s hope that it stays that way. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. On that note, this is the first time that I have really been on my computer because of the slowness of the internet, so it’s quite obvious that I have not written anything.
It’s sad because I was trying to do a fake NaNo with myself and I’m still at 14,193 words when I should be at 32,260 today. I have been reading, so at least I’ve been keeping up with something. I should give myself some credit.
School starts on Tuesday (sad day) so I’m going to be busy with school and work up until the summer. However, I’m going to try my best to read and write every day like I have been so far…kind of. Tomorrow, Monday, I do not have school or work because it’s Martin Luther King, Jr. day. I’m going to try to get as much done as I can tomorrow on account that it’s my last day of freedom!
So that’s pretty much it. I just wanted to touch base. I’ll post again tomorrow with any real updates. 🙂
Well, it’s official. I am behind in NaNo. I have to say that I knew this day was going to come eventually. It was kind of too good to be true that I was doing so well in the beginning.
The thing is, there are four more weeks of school left. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this week is only three days, so technically there are only three full weeks left and then there’s finals. Naturally, because the end of the semester is within sight, all my professors decide to dump a load on us students. I have a project in science that is due December 3. Because of NaNo, I already started it and I have to say that it is really easy and it’s not time consuming at all. I just have to fix it up a bit and then put it all together on the poster. I have one more written assignment to do for that class and then I’m done with science (the project is my final). Math…I’m never going to be done with math, let’s be honest. However, I did do the homework that she assigned so I don’t have any math homework until Wednesday. Health, I have a training to do for a quiz grade, but the website won’t work. That’s going to be interesting to tell my teacher especially since she’s get mad pretty easily. Teaching, I just have one more paper to write and my online class…that class takes up no time at all.
So I explain all of this to you and it seems like I don’t have that much because I have most of it done or started already. However, it’s actually a lot more than it sounds, which is a sad thing. Anyway, I’m trying to get all of this done and out of the way so that I can finally start focusing on my NaNo again. I may just bring my laptop or something when I go away this weekend so that I can work on it bit by bit. There’s wi-fi there now, so I may be able to write and even update my NaNo stats.
I think my other problem is this: I never finished the outline in October. The last time I wrote my NaNo (nine days ago…wow) I had finished the outline. Now that I have nothing to follow, even though I still have ideas, I think I’m scaring myself away. I can freelance, but I know that it’s going to turn out terrible. Which isn’t a bad thing–it just means that I’m going to have a little extra editing to do later. But the fact that it’s going so well now, I’m afraid that I’m going to mess it all up.
My other problem, I think, is because I may be getting bored with it. I have noticed a pattern with myself: I start something and never finish it. I come up with ideas and ideas and ideas and I never do anything with them. Before NaNo even started, my sister and I were going to write together. I whipped out my list of novels and looked them over. I didn’t feel like writing anything. I wanted to come up with something new. But I really didn’t because I knew that I should start working on something on the list. Or, I should finish something that I had already started. I’m pretty sure I have at least ten novels that are already started. It’s a problem. They should have a support group for something like this.
Just the other day, I came up with a new idea, which is why I think I might be getting bored with Saving Each Other. I told my sister the other day that I haven’t written anything in a while and that it was really bumming me out. So what did I do? I turned on the TV.
I am determined to finish NaNo this year. I am determined to finish the entire novel. I am determined to actually edit it fairly soon so that I can maybe get something finally published. But with school and work and Thanksgiving around the corner (especially since I’m going away), it’s going to be tough. I have to admit that I am a little discouraged, but I am really hoping that I push past this feeling and just get the dumb novel done.
Please wish me luck and Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have a good one and I hope all your NaNo novels are going much better than mine! 🙂
Huh. It’s been a few days, hasn’t it? Well, the reason I haven’t updated this thing is because I haven’t written anything since my last post, which was Day 6 (Tuesday). I had a huge writing day on Tuesday and I was very proud of myself…except that I haven’t written since. This is what happened:
Tuesday I wrote while in school. After school I had that dumb doctor’s appointment. I was there for an hour and a half. I told my doctor that I was still tired, my rash is still all over my body, I’m still coughing (although it’s much better than it was) and I’m still wheezing every once in a while. School doesn’t help because I’m walking around in the freezing cold which probably makes it worse. When she listened to me breath she said that I still have pneumonia, which I figured because that takes a long time to get rid of. So, they decided to check my oxygen level, then draw blood, then get a couple of x-rays and fun stuff like that. Then we found out that everything was normal. So they gave me a second inhaler and sent me on my way. So now I have two inhalers to take.
Wednesday, my boyfriend and two friends came over. Chris, my boyfriend, was going to help my friend Christina with her math homework. Carolyn, Christina’s sister, was having a party at school the next day and she needed to make oreo balls for it. If you don’t know what oreo balls are, you should look it up and go make some; especially if you’re a woman PMSing. They are FANTASTIC. All it is are oreos and cream cheese rolled into balls dipped in chocolate. Can we say Heaven? Anyway, the math online wouldn’t work so the four of us (well, Chris ditched us and sat in the other room because us three girls were getting a little crazy…) ended up making the oreo balls. Except we messed up (if you have ever made them before you’re probably saying, “How do you mess up on making oreo balls?” Well…if you met me and friends in person you’d answer yourself with, “Oh. Because it’s THEM making it.”). So we had to run to the store while it was snowing a lot and the roads were terrible. The car was slipping and sliding all over the place. It was a fun time.
Thursday, I had school and work and was utterly exhausted by the time I got home from work. So I didn’t write or anything because I ended up going to bed around 9:00. Yesterday, Friday, I had school and then work and then I had to babysit. I was going to write while the kids were in bed, but I never ended up babysitting. Again, I was in bed by 9:00. Here’s why:
I got out of my last class with a voice mail on my phone. It was my doctor. “Hi, Rachel! We got the results of your x-rays and guess what? We found traces of mono in your system. You don’t actually have it, but apparently you had it maybe about three months ago. So that’s good, you were sick and didn’t even know it! Even though you don’t have it now, your body may still be fighting a bit of it off because you’re weak from the pneumonia and such and that’s probably why you’re so tired and not getting any better.” I’m thinking to myself, three months ago was August. I was in Disney at the end of August. You mean to tell me that I had mono when I was in Disney? Wonderful. Anyway, I called her back and she told me that I should stay in this weekend and get some extra rest. If I don’t feel any better by Monday I should come back in.
This made me mad because I had to cancel babysitting last night, I had to cancel my hair appointment this afternoon, and I was supposed to go out with Chris and his friend tonight and I can’t even do that. I know for a fact that I am not going to be feeling any better by Monday because I have been like this all week. My nose is really stuffed up and has been all week. Trust me, every single day at work the kids said to me, “Why do you sound funny?” I’m thinking, You sound funny! I can at least pronounce all my words correctly!
Anyway, the only good thing about staying in all weekend is that I get to catch up on my writing. Missing four days, that means I’m down by 8,000 words. So I should be at 25,740 today. That would be the 6,000 I missed on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and the extra 2,000 for today. As you can see, I stopped at 23,081 words. I have been writing all morning and I needed to take a quick break. I will most likely get some more writing in later today or tonight. I will definitely make it to the 25,740 words…possibly more. But I updated my word count on the NaNo website and on here because I wanted to fill you all in on what’s going on. Plus I wanted to make it seem like I’m still here.
When I write some more tonight, I may post again. If not, I’ll see you all tomorrow!
It is Day 2 of NaNoWriMo and so far I have been ahead. I told myself that I was going to try to write at least 2000 words a day so that I can always be just a little bit ahead of the game. So far it has been working because I wrote 2030 words on Day 1 and today I wrote 2118 words.
I’m also going to try to finish this thing before Thanksgiving. Or at least be well ahead before Thanksgiving because I’m going to lose four days of writing. Every year my family and I have Thanksgiving dinner at my grandparents’ house and then my sisters, parents, and I go away for the weekend. Even though I come back that Sunday, I doubt I’m going to be writing anything that day. The cottage we stay at has wi-fi now, but I’m not going to be dragging my laptop.
However, I got bored while waiting for NaNo to start, so I started something new in a notebook. Plus, Hurricane Sandy was happening so I was afraid to turn on my laptop. Anyway, I will probably bring that notebook with me when we go away so I will be getting something done at least. Hopefully, anyway.
Speaking of the hurricane, I hope that everyone is safe and sound from it. I have to say that I was a bit excited because my school lost power so I had no school on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. And my work was closed on Monday and I don’t work on Tuesdays anyway, so I had a four-day weekend. Of course, I went back to work on Wednesday, yesterday, and I have work today. But I did not go to school today or yesterday because…I went to do the doctor last Saturday and I have pneumonia. So I am glad that the hurricane cancelled school for three days because I wasn’t going to be able to go to school in the first place. This way, I only missed two days instead of five.
I am feeling a bit better, hence why I am still going to work. However, waking up at 5:30 every morning to go to school…pneumonia took a huge toll on me so there was no way that I was going to be able to get up that early spend a few hours at school and then go immediately to work for a few hours. It just was not going to happening. Unfortunately, I am going to have to go back to school next week which sucks because I know that I’m still not going to be better. I have to go back to the doctor on Tuesday for a follow-up, so we’ll see how that goes.
Anyway, I hope everyone is safe from Sandy, I hope everyone is in good health, and I hope that everyone is off to a great start on NaNo. Good luck everyone! 🙂
NaNo starts next Thursday. That gives me a little less than one week to finish my outline for Saving Each Other. I know that I started working on this outline around the beginning of October, but I have been busy with a lot of other things. For example, homework. Not to mention that I have a little more homework now because I skipped school this past Wednesday.
Yes, I am sick. Therefore, I have not been working on anything at all. No writing, no homework, no nothing. I haven’t even been able to go hang out with my friends. The only thing I have been doing is playing Pokemon Conquest and I have to say that I am getting very far in the game. Well, I also have been going to work, but that’s only because we’re short-staffed and I hate calling out of work in the first place.
I’m angry because I only have science class on Mondays and this upcoming Monday my science class was cancelled. No school for me! Which is a great thing because I’m sick so I can have an extra day of the weekend to sleep in. Well, I checked my e-mail last night and guess what? Math class is cancelled for today. Fantastic, yes? Not at all…we have to “make it up.” And guess when we have to make it up? Yes, on Monday. -_- So here I am in the library at school waiting around until 10:30 for my science class. I guess for today it’s good because having one class is better than two. But on Monday…one class is definitely not better than none.
Yes, I am at school waiting around for two hours for my class to start that I don’t even want to go to. I’m coughing up all my insides, wheezing, I’m exhausted from lack of sleep, and I’m a bit dizzy. Of course, I can’t miss this class because then this would be my third time skipping this class this semester and that would mean I would have to attend all of November…let’s face it, I am not going to attend all of November whether I’m sick or not. I’m going to go to class early and talk to my teacher about missing Wednesday and I’m really hoping that she’s like, “Oh, Rachel you look awful! You should go home and get some rest.” And then I’m home free. That could happen…right? No, probably not.
Here’s a funny story for you: yesterday I came to school for my Health class. On Thursdays Health is the only class that I have. My professor is very weird and awkward. She’s in her 50s (I think) and all she talks about is her boyfriend. His name is Steve. I shouldn’t know that. Anyway, she can be nice when she wants to be, but if she doesn’t like you, she makes it known. For example, she talks to me just fine and I could actually have a normal conversation with her if I wanted to, but all the other girls at my table…well, we can just say that my professor is very bitter towards them. If they’re talking while she’s talking, she’ll call them out on it. If anyone else in the class is talking while she’s talking, it’s as though she doesn’t notice.
But enough about that, I got to class at 8:45 yesterday when class starts at 9:00. It was just the two of us in the room and I was coughing:
Professor: “Rachel, is that you I hear coughing over there?”
Me: Well, there’s no one else in here, so I guess so… “Yeah, that’s me.”
Professor: “Do you have allergies or are you getting sick?”
Me: “I’m sick.”
Professor: “Oh, that’s too bad.”
And that was the end of that. Now here’s the real kicker; about…maybe five or six times during the course of the class she kept asking me if I was okay. Whether I was coughing or just sitting there paying attention to her talking about absolutely nothing, she would interrupt herself to ask if I was okay:
Professor: “Now what that means is–Rachel, are you okay?”
Me: *Completely confused* “Yeah?”
Professor: “Anyway, what that means…”
Professor: “If you work–Rachel, are you sure you’re okay?”
Me: Can you just leave me alone? “Yes.”
And then at the end of class she says to me: “You know, you really do look lousy.”
Anyway, I really hope no one says anything to me today because then I’m not going to be a happy camper. I already feel like crap from being sick. I have to get myself through this school day and then get myself through work…with ten children today. I have an extra one. Yipee…yesterday I was trying to talk to the kids and the more I talked the softer my voice got because I kept coughing so I was losing my voice. Eventually the kids turned around and walked away as if they were like, “We don’t know what you’re saying, so we’re just gonna go now…bye.”
Let’s hope that this is an easy day for me and that I don’t have to do much at all. Except I have to finish that outline and do some homework. Meh.
