Day Four

We Got This….

MePicture: This was the look on my face as I was writing today. Yep.

Needless to say I did not write too much today. I wrote a little at school and then I wrote a tiny bit when I got home, but my grand total for the day is 1,138 words. It’s not even enough for one whole day because we’re supposed to be writing 1,667 words a day. However, I’m not too concerned because my total for the whole story is 14,557 words.

Why was I making this face? Well, I realized that I was getting to drawn into the characters for Saving Each Other. Let me tell you a little bit about them:

Sierra: A petite 18-year-old who has no money, has no job, has no place to stay, and has no parents. Her grandfather, who lives very far away, sends her money so that she can put herself through college. She is currently an undecided major and she gets bullied a lot mainly because one of her eyes is blue and the other is a milky white. No, she is not blind although people tend to assume that. Don’t let her fool you; you mess with her in any way, she will kick you to the curb and never look back.

Blake: A bum 20-year-old who lives in a small apartment with his girlfriend, Jenna. Jenna goes to school in the early morning as well as online for an accounting degree. She works at a bank in the afternoon. What does Blake do all day? He watches TV and eats. However, Jenna has had enough of his laziness and forced him to get a job. She can no longer pay for the bills and rent on her one lousy paycheck. Blake is now working part-time at a preschool with no education and experience to back him up. However, his inner child allows him to get along great with the kids.

Luke: An independent 23-year-old who has no idea where he is going in life. He has a master’s degree in business, yet he is working at a preschool. He, unfortunately for him, accidentally got Blake that extra shift at the preschool. Luke’s father was a wealthy business man who owned a lot of big companies. Luke worked for him and hoped to be just like him one day. When his father passed away, his will stated that the company should go to Luke’s eldest brother. His brother ran it into the ground, thus Luke was laid-off. Luke dreams of opening his own business, but he had no money due to the mortgage on his house among other bills. Luke knows that the preschool isn’t going to be enough for him to start his own business, but it was the only thing that was available at the time.

Do you see how thought-out those background stories are? I’m 26 pages into the novel and the reader already knows absolutely everything there needs to know about the three main characters. Oh, but I left something out, didn’t I…? Oh, yeah! They all (except Sierra) have some sort of power.

That’s what that face is saying: “How did I forget about that part? It’s the whole point of the story!”

Anyway, I introduced the powers and had Luke and Blake discover that they’re messed up and then I stopped in the middle of it because…I don’t really know why.

And that was all she wrote.

Update This And Update That

I Have Important Things To Say….

I have no idea where to start! I have a lot to say and I don’t know if I’m going to remember it all. I had Starbucks today and I am extremely wired! Seriously, ask my sister…and my mother…I was bothering them both. Singing, dancing, making weird noises, walking funny, yelling, laughing, falling on the floor, being loud…true story.

ANYWAY, I have three things to talk about…at least that’s all I can remember that I had to talk about…

First, Spilled Ink is back up for business. About two years ago, my sister and I started a writing website. Life got in the way and we kind of let it die. However, we wanted to get back into it so we made a new website for it. We came up with some new ideas for it, kept some old ideas and scrapped the rest of the old ideas. We hope the website grows a lot and is very successful.

Let me tell you a little about it: There are prompts, tips, writing races, co-authoring, and a role-playing section. There’s a place where members can review and discuss books they have read. Also, each member has their own board where they can post their own stories and other people can review the stories. You know, give feedback and critique. The link is on the Come Find Me page of this blog, but here it is again: Spilled Ink. Please go check it out and if you like, go ahead and join. We’d love to have you. 🙂

Next, I was thinking of adding more to this blog. My sister gave me this idea a while ago and I have been thinking of doing it ever since. I just never got the chance to actually do it. I was thinking about it more today and I think I’m going to really do it. However, I want to get your opinions anyway. So, if you don’t mind, please comment on whether you would enjoy this and want me to do this: once a month, I was thinking of doing a volg (video blog, for those of you who don’t know). So, once a month instead of posting words, you’d get to hear it straight from my loud mouth. Wouldn’t that be awesome? I don’t know when I would actually start doing this, but I thought I would throw it out there and see if you guys would like that or not. Of course, if the majority of you say no I may do it anyway. 😀

Third, I guess I should update about my actual writing, huh? I have been writing bit by bit each day since my last post. Since my last post I have written 7,659 words on Take Over. I plan on writing a little more tonight, but I probably won’t get the chance to update this later tonight and tell you all how wonderful I have been doing with my writing! I’ve been a good girl lately. 😀

I guess I do have more to talk about…fourth, my sister and I went to Barnes and Noble today (hence the Starbucks). We were looking at writing books when we were supposed to be writing. I have been thinking a lot about my future lately and I decided that it’s time that I really start looking for publishers. I have two children’s books written and ready to leave the nest. So I found one of those books that lists publishing companies, agencies, magazines, etc. I wrote down a few publishing companies that represent picture books. So, while I finish Take Over, edit Hunter and Diary of a Lover, and write Saving Each Other for Camp NaNoWriMo, I’ll be sending my two picture books off to publishers.

Also, Writer’s Digest sent me a thing in the mail about their annual writing contest. I’ve done it before (and lost, obviously), but that was two or three years ago. I think I’m going to try to do it again this year. I think I’m going to send in a poem. I don’t write poems often, although I would like to. I wasn’t going to bother with the contest again this year, but the other day, in math class of all places, I thought of a poem idea. I think that was my inner muse saying, “Do the Writer’s Digest contest!” Because seriously, when do I come up with poem ideas?

Anyway, that’s that. Send my picture books to publishers, polish off my young adult novels, prepare for Camp NaNo, finish Take Over, do the contest…I have a lot on my plate right now. But I like it. I have wanted to be an author since I was ten and I finally want to get started on it. Meanwhile, I’m going to promote myself as much as possible. So follow me on here, on Twitter (the link is also on the Come Find Me page), and on my other Spilled Ink website. Then sit back and watch me succeed. Because I’m going to make it no matter what. 🙂

Dragging Along…

Every time I write, I post on here right after. If this happens in the morning, then I usually say in my post that I’m going to try to get some more writing done later on that night. I never do that. Yesterday, I actually did.

I wrote a total of 4,678 words today, but about 800 words of that if from last night. 800 is better than nothing. Plus, I made up for it this morning.

I still have about 45 minutes before I have to get to class, so I could actually write a little bit more, but I’m beginning to make typo after typo…I just wrote for almost two hours, which is pretty good.

I don’t think that I’m going to get any more writing done tonight. I’m probably going to be dead tired by the time I get home from work. Today is my long day at school and then I have work right after, so it does wonders to my body…

Even though I won’t be using this time to write, I am certainly going to use this time to read. I have about 100 pages left in Beautiful Creatures. I did not bring it because then I knew that I wasn’t going to write at all. I have my boyfriend’s Kindle hooked up to my iPod and there’s a book called Eye of the Wizard that he wanted me to read. I’m just about halfway through that, so that’s what I’ll be doing while I wait for class to start.

As I said before, I am not going to change the pages read thing because I will confuse myself. I am changing the words written…even though I confuse myself with that as well, but I don’t think that I have screwed up yet. If I did, maybe I’ll make up for it because I will hopefully write over 365,000 words by the end of the year…even though I am currently behind. 😉

Getting Back Into Habit

I Actually Wrote Today…

Well, I did it. I meant to do it all day today, but I got a good hour in. Since I had nothing to do today I thought I thought was going to focus on writing all day, but I just didn’t really feel like it…at all. So it’s six o’clock in the evening right now and I wrote for the past hour. It’ s better than nothing, right?

I didn’t feel like writing anything, but I forced myself to do it anymore. I need to get back into the habit of writing for at least an hour every day. Even though I wasn’t very into it, I think I whipped out a pretty good chapter, if I do say so myself. I am now on chapter six, but I’m not going to start it now.

This last chapter we learned a little more about Adair. Apparently she went to college for engineering and quit when she had two classes left. Dominic couldn’t believe she wasted all that time and money and Justin couldn’t believe that she got good grades in such a tough field. They’re such supporting friends, aren’t they?

Anyway, they didn’t get anything done writing-wise in that chapter. My characters are starting to take after me and that’s not really something to be proud of…

Well, I have school until two tomorrow and then work at 2:30 until somewhere between five and six. Tomorrow night I’m going to have to try to find some time to write for an hour because I know that I’m going to be pretty tired. Although, it is supposed to snow pretty heavy tonight…I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a snow day for the first day of school. 😉

Very Productive

I’m Doing Good…

Before I update about my writing, I just wanted to throw this out there:

My sister and I admin quite a few RPG websites together, as you all should know. All the links for these websites are on my Come Find Me page on this blog. However, one of these websites is an RPG for the book series Warriors by Erin Hunter. If any of you know of these books, read them, and enjoy them, please consider joining our website. We’ve been very active lately and we’re looking for new members as we don’t have that many. It would be great to RP with some new faces. The website is called Stars Vs. Gems. Plus, if you enjoy writing, role-playing is great practice. If anyone is interested, please go there and check it out. If you join, that’s fantastic! Thank you. If you don’t, well thank you for checking it out, anyway. 🙂

Alright, now onto the good stuff!

I set a timer for myself this morning to write for one hour. I have work this afternoon and then I have a wake to go to right after, so I knew that I was going to have no time to get anything done tonight. I set aside an hour for myself to get some writing done hoping that I could get a lot done in an hour. I have to admit that I didn’t write for the whole half hour because when I had about twenty minutes left, Comet, my dog, decided to storm into the basement and demand that I take him outside so he could pee. How can anyone say no to that? Especially when he’s a golden retriever and he’s bigger than you when he jumps up on you.

Anyway, when I came back in from outside, I wrote for a little longer because I had about ten more minutes left. Then I decided to stop when I had about two minutes left because I ended at a good spot. I could have kept on writing, but I wanted to post on here and I have a few other things that I need to get done before I go to work.

I’m happy to say that I made it to 8,193 words though. 🙂 Because I’m doing a fake NaNo, that means I got passed today’s word count and tomorrow’s word count. Of course, I’m still going to write tomorrow because I need to keep this up and get myself into the habit of doing this. Plus, tomorrow is Saturday and I have absolutely nothing going on tomorrow. Which is good because then I can get a lot of writing done…Sunday is going to be a very busy day for me so I don’t know how much writing I’m going to be able to get done.

The Blank Page is going really well. I am still in love with the characters and even though I never planned out this novel, it’s actually moving along. Dominic’s story is making a lot of sense, which is good. I haven’t really talked about Justin or Adair’s stories yet, so we’ll see how those work out. I was also thinking that I might write these three novels for real. I can post them on here as well as FictionPress. I have an account on there, you can go to the Come Find Me page…again. Of course, it might not be for a while that I actually write those stories because it’s not like I’m going to get them published or anything. I want to focus more on getting a couple novels published first. Maybe I’ll work on those stories bit by bit while I write the Writers Group saga and when the series is all done, I’ll start posting chapters from the three novels.

That’s all for today, but to close this post I just wanted to say something about a man who recently passed away: I know none of you will know who I am talking about, but as you may have noticed, I said I’m going to a wake tonight. The man who passed away was named Dick. Dick was a wonderful old man from my church. He was the nicest person you would ever meet. He came to church every Sunday and was known by everyone. He tried his best, and always succeeded, in helping everyone. No matter what the issue, he was always there to help figure it out. He had a heart of gold and was extremely smart. He had a love of geology and definitely knew his stuff. Dick went peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning losing his long battle with lung cancer. He had been sick for years and was housebound due to this illness. Although he’s in a better place, we all miss him terribly. If you’re religious, even though you never knew the man, feel free to send a quick prayer to Heaven for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Thank you.

On that note, I’ll update again tomorrow. Try to stay warm and if you’re living someplace warm, then…I hate you. Have a nice day. 🙂

Enjoying Myself

I May Be Having Too Much Fun…

I have been doing a great job keeping up with everything I said I was going to do! If I may say so myself…for example, my sister and I admin a few websites together (all the links are on the Come Find Me page, they’re all RPG sites) and we made a schedule so that at least one of us is on every day for our members. I’m supposed to go on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I haven’t really missed a day yet!

Then, I said I was going to write more. With the exception of January first, I have written every day so far. I told myself (I never mentioned anything about it on here because I thought about this at three in the morning the other day) that I was going to post on here every single day this year. Or I’m going to try to, anyway. However, I usually post about my writing. So in order to post on here, I have to write a bit first. So I guess it’s another motivation thing to get me to write every day. I also said that I was going to treat this like a NaNo month. I’m keeping up with that, as well. I should have 4,839 words today but I just got up to 5,843. Yay me!

I also said that I was going to read more, but…we’ll still wait and see how that goes. I said on GoodReads that I was going to read 20 books this year, so as long as I make it to that goal, we’re good. It would be nice to make it past that goal, but you know…other things get in the way.

Anyway, as you know I am writing The Blank Page and I am really having too much fun with it. I am in love with the characters that have developed for this story. Adair and Justin argue like an old married couple. Justin seems to be bothered by every little thing Adair does and Adair knows this. So she tries to do everything in her power to bug him with it. Also, at the beginning of chapter two she bought a large coffee with two bags of cookies. I think she has a bit of a sweet tooth…

And then there’s Dominic…he’s the peacemaker, even though he is amused by Justin and Adair’s arguments. But he also wants to get things done. Except when the other two finally shut up to get things done, they actually work on their novels while poor Dominic is stuck not having a clue what to write. But it’s okay, he just figured out a plot!

Writing this story is also really interesting because they’re each writing different genres. Adair is writing fantasy, Dominic is writing a mystery, and Justin is writing an adventure story. Writing this series is going to be like writing three different books at once without actually writing them. It going to be fun and interesting, but I am going to have to take a lot of notes to keep everything straight. Good thing for sticky notes! 🙂

Well, that’s really it for today. I’ll post again tomorrow with my newest word count.
