Exciting Updates! (Not Really)

Today is day three of February vacation. For the past two days I’ve spent it doing nothing, cleaning the house, and getting little bits of writing done here and there. I am proud to say that I actually did something today!

As Kris stated, “We’ve gotten our social quota for the year… we’re done!”

Last night, my sister Lisa and her husband texted me asking if we wanted to meet them for lunch. So, we did. They were a little late due to the DMV, but it was all good.

Kris and I went to Barnes & Noble in the morning. It’s always nice to have the opportunity to go there multiple times a week. We always go on Saturdays because Sundays we have church and I’m at work the rest of the week. We both brought just our notebooks again. It’s been a nice change of pace handwriting instead of typing, even if typing is faster. However, I wrote over 1,000 words today in about an hour. I think that’s a pretty good accomplishment.

What am I writing? I have no idea… it was an idea I got from a short story I wrote back in November. I have no idea where it’s going or why I decided to continue with it. However, a plot is slowly forming in my head so I’m going to stick with it for now. Maybe it’ll turn into a new novel idea or maybe it’ll turn into a more lengthy short story that I can submit to a contest or something. We’ll see.

Then we went to Kohl’s because we both need new clothes… and we needed to kill some more time while we waited for our sister and brother.

Then we went to the mall (which was where we were meeting them for lunch) and we wandered around aimlessly there. After about two hours, we ate lunch and sat there and talked for about an hour and a half or so. Then we finally parted ways.

After eight hours, Kris and I staggered home and boy, has it been a long day! It’s been a good day, though. We saw some family, wrote a bit, and got new clothes.

You can’t go wrong with that.

I am thankful for my school. As much as I complain, I would not be where l am today without it. I am well-educated and have learned a lot over the years. School has opened my mind to many new things and because of that l want to learn more.

I am thankful my job, the people l work with, and my students. I work with wonderful people who are inspiring to me with all the care and knowledge they bring to the special education world. I love each and every one of my students. Despite their disabilities, they still smile every single day and strive to be independant and do the best they can. I always look forward to going to work and am truly lucky to be one of the few people in this world who actually love their job.

I am thankful for all the past jobs l’ve had. I have met so many people over the years, some good and some bad. However, that taught me the right things to say and do and also that some people are here to stay and some aren’t, but everyone comes into your life for a reason.

I am thankful for the “little things” that l have a warm bed to sleep in at night, food to fill my belly, and a house to keep me protected.

I am thankful for the money l have. I struggle sometimes, but l have the knowledge and control to spend money only on what l need and not what l want. Because of that, l am debt-free and able to pay for school out of my own pocket.

I am thankful for time. There are simply not enough hours in the day, but l am grateful for what l can get done each day. It teaches me how to be productive and organized.

I am thankful for the Internet. Without it l would not write as much as l do. I would not be able to blog, do research, or even my school work.

I am thankful for WordPress, this blog, and all my WordPress friends (you know who you are). I have met so many wonderful people through my blog. Everyone has taught me lot (especially about writing). I love you all for your care and support through my blog and aspiring writing career.

I am thankful for my writing. It means l am creative and have an active imagination. Plus, it’s a lot of fun and what l live for.

I am thankful for my anxiety. Without that l would not have found courage and strength in myself. I would not have learned to face my fears.

I am thankful for my church. They’re like my mini family. I am happy to teach sunday school at a great church with a lot of eager students.

I am thankful for my pets Chip the dog, Hunter the cat, Raph the turtle, and Nano the fish. I am lucky to have a great home with a lot of space to give these animals a loving family and long, healthy, happy lives. If l could get more, l would. I plan to someday.

I am thankful for my friends, past and present. People who l am no longer friends with have come and gone for their own reasons. They reminded me that if l don’t have anything nice to say l shouldn’t say anything at all. However, as much as you dislike someone, you should always be polite and pleseant to them. You never know what else they may be going through. My present friends teach me something new every day. They love me for who l am. They support me in everything l do, no matter how silly it sounds. I am lucky to have friends that l can call “family.”

I am thankful for my extended family. All my aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins on both my mom’s side and my dad’s side of the family. I may not see them often, but they’re always there for us and are just a phone call away. I am lucky they are all in-state.

I am thankful for my immidiate family. My mom and dad, who l would be lost without. They have taught me how to be me and become a responsible adult. They taught me everything about life. My sister Kris who has always been there for me and supported me in everything l do. She listens to my writing ideas and plays video games upon video games with me. My sister Lisa who introduced me to the wonderful job l have now, always listens to my problems, and also introduced me to the “classics” such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Alfred Hitchcock, and my favorite Jerry Lewis. She’s always there to sit and watch a good movie with me. My new brother-in-law Nick, who has made his way into my family comfortably and fits right in. He’s interested in just about everything l’m interested in and really cares for Lisa and the rest of the family as his own.

I am thankful for me. All my strengths and weaknesses, my looks and personality, and all the ups and downs of my life. All that makes me who l am.

Today take a moment and think about what you’re thankful for and share it with the world. We all really are lucky for what we have. It’s time we recognize it.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Anticipating November

I am patiently waiting for November to arrive because…

–I have a lot of days off from work for various reasons. The first week is a four day week, the second week is a three day week, the third week is a full week (that will most likely drag), and the last week is a two and a half day week. Less work means more writing.

–My Spanish class ends the first week of November. For the rest of November (and the beginning of December) I will only have homework for four classes instead of five. Less homework means more writing.

–Thanksgiving. Who doesn’t love food?

–Vacation. My family and I go away for Thanksgiving weekend each year. It will be nice to have nothing to worry about. Of course, I will have my writing supplies with me.

–NaNoWriMo. Writing, writing, and more writing!

November is going to be a busy month. It will go by quick (and it will be the holidays before we know it!).

I can’t wait!

July Camp: Day Five

Almost One Week Down…

Raph's Note

I went away for the Fourth of July with my boyfriend and his family. This meant I had to leave poor Raph behind. Of course, I was only gone for one full day. However, Kris took good care of her. She was at work when I came home and when I went down to the basement to say hi to Raph, I found this note. It says:

“Hi Mom! I drove Kris CRAZY this morning when she was trying to write while I was out. You would have been proud! Despite that, she gave me some AWESOME cucumbers and lettuce. She did not, however, change my pool water. You should get on that. I’m sure you had fun in NH, but I bet you missed me! Love, Raphie.”

Now, as you all know, Raph is a turtle, not a dog or a cat. When I first got her, I did a lot of research on turtles. Everything said turtles have no memory at all. They only remember who feeds them and what hurts them. That’s it. Other than that, they don’t really “feel” anything else.

I was surprised when I went down to take her out because as soon as she saw me, she seemed to get really excited. She tried walking through the glass wall of her tank. She always does that when she sees me because she knows when I come down stairs it either means she’s getting food or she gets to come out of her tank for a bit. So I thought nothing of it. But when I took her out, she kept curling up by my foot. I kept moving her away so she could get some exercise, but she kept coming back. Finally, I picked her up and put her on my lap while I wrote. She actually stayed there. I was surprised because she hates sitting on my lap. I think she hates it because it’s not a flat surface and, since we were sitting on my desk chair, it was high up.

So Raph isn’t a cat or a dog, but I think there is some sort of bond between the two of us with all the interaction I give her. So I don’t really believe all those people on Google who said turtles don’t feel anything. I think she noticed that I was gone. Or maybe I’m just over-thinking this? Oh, well. I’m going to pretend that she missed me. 🙂

Anyway, I wrote while she sat upon my lap. I was right on par with the NaNo count, but my word count…I was behind. By a lot. NaNo is 1,613 words a day, I’m trying to get 2,500 words a day. Because I missed yesterday (and I haven’t been writing 2,500 words a day…) I needed to write about 7,000 words in order to catch up to my own goal. According to my goal, I should be at 12,500. I wrote as much as I could before my cousins came over (but I kept getting distracted…) I wrote a total of 2,027 words leaving my Camp count at 7,630. Not bad.

I’ve been trying to write for at least one hour every single day. I had about three hours to write and even though I kept getting distracted, I did in fact write for a full hour…I think. I’m pretty sure. I don’t see how I couldn’t have written for at least one full hour.

Anyway, tomorrow my goal is supposed to be 15,000. Do we think I can catch up? Eh, we’ll see.

Day Five

Sad Day….

HunterThis is Hunter. He seems to think that he and I are in a relationship with one another. He constantly wants to cuddle, he follows me into the shower, and he waits up for me when I’m out and don’t get home until midnight. He sits in the window sill and waits for me. When he sees me pull into the driveway he runs over to the door. He’s better than Chip, my dog. She runs up to me with tail wagging and before I can even touch her, she runs away and goes back to bed.

Even on the nights I stay home, but my boyfriend is over, Hunter still waits up. My boyfriend and I will be saying our goodnights for the night and Hunter will just be sitting directly behind the two of us. Just waiting for me to shut the door behind my boyfriend as he leaves.

This morning, I was trying to get some things done the computer. I was eating egg salad and coffee while he sat on the table right behind the computer. I’m typing and I hear little licks. I look to my side and what do you know…Hunter thought that we’ve taken that step in our relationship to share food together.

“NOO!!” I screamed mostly because egg salad isn’t good for him. So I take it away. While I’m rinsing the bowl in the sink I turn back around and he’s drinking my coffee. Like, really? That’s my coffee, man…

So I take the coffee away from him. He won’t stop meowing at me…it’s been a half hour.

I thought I would share this story with you because usually when I’m writing, he tends to be right up my butt along with Raph, my turtle. So I thought this was appropriate. Also, I knew I was going to have nothing to say because I am not going to be writing today. If I don’t write, then I have nothing to say on my blog and I wanted to update this thing.

The reason I am not going to be writing today is because I am just simply too busy. I have homework that I have not done in a very long time because…well, homework is stupid. I have work in about two hours and my sister is sick so I might have to take her to the doctors before I go to work. That, and the kitchen is a mess…someone should clean that up.

So I probably do have time to write a little bit right now, but I don’t want to get interrupted. I have work 11-6 today and then my cousin’s birthday party is 7-9. It’s her friend party and she’s turning 11, so she’s excited; therefore I have to go. So if I’m going to write at all today it’s not going to be until late tonight. In which case I will just update my word count tomorrow in my blog post.

Tomorrow is my cousin’s real birthday and I have no idea what we’re doing for it. I don’t know if we’re celebrating it tomorrow or Sunday or what, but if I’m not doing anything tomorrow and if I’m not too tired, I might as well write straight through the night tonight, I don’t care. I think it would fun.

Anyway, we’ll see if I get any work done tonight…I hope everyone else isn’t too busy today!

I Got Nothing Done Today…

Well, I have been on a roll writing for at least one hour every day. However, I didn’t write at all today. But I did say that I was going to try to post on here every day, so here I am. I have no news, but I am posting!

The reason as to why I didn’t write today was because I was busy with my websites. For example, Stars Vs. Gems, Gaia Ranch, and Spilled Ink. Spilled Ink is a writing website that my sister and I are working on together. We already have one up right now, but we completely re-did the whole website. So that’s why I didn’t give you the link because it’s not open yet. However, we  are planning on opening it on Columbus Day…maybe sooner. I’ll explain more about the website when it opens.

Once I finished working on our websites for the day, I thought about getting some writing done, but when I looked at the time I realized that I wasn’t going to have enough time. Although, now that I think about it, I could have written a little bit. Getting a little something done is better than nothing. But oh, well. What’s done is done.

I had a very busy day today because of church. Everyone knows that I’m the co-director of the Sunday school, correct? Well, today the Bishop came for a visit. Plus the Sunday school were performing something in the middle of the service. Also, we had a luncheon for the ladies who run the Thrift Shop to say thank you for everything they do for the church. Usually, I’m at church from 9:30 to 12:00. Today, because of the Bishop’s schedule, the service was 2 to 3. But because of the thing the Sunday School did in the service, we needed to practice it. So we told everyone to come at one, which meant that I was there before one. Then after the service, we had the luncheon and, well…I was at church today from 12:45 to 6:00. It wasn’t a bad time, but I just didn’t want to be there for that amount of time as well as it being smack in the middle of the day.

Anyway, when I got home, I was starving (there wasn’t any food I liked at the luncheon) so my sister and I got Panera and we’ve been watching TV ever since. I’ve been too tired to do anything else. Although, I think I might go plan out the novel a little bit.

The Blank Page has three novels in it and I thought that I should plan those out. Not fully, but just enough so that when I have my characters writing them, they all make sense. So I may do that, but as far as actual writing goes…I’m not going to be boosting my word count tonight.

Speaking of planning out the novels, though, I found this really cool app on my iPod. It’s called “A Novel Idea.” It breaks everything down. You can click on “novels” and will ask you the title, setting, theme, tone, POV, premise, plot, and group. The group is something you make up. You can group certain things together. For example, when I plugged in The Blank Page, I put it under the Writers Group group. The other sections are “scenes,” “characters,” “locations,” and “ideas.” It’s very detailed and organized. I added The Blank Page as a novel and added Dominic, Justin, and Adair as characters. Then it allowed me to attach the novel to each character. It also allowed me to give Dominic, Adair, and Justin relations to each other. It really keeps you organized. I think I may use this to plan out the three novels that aren’t real. Then I might know enough information about them so Dominic, Justin, and Adair can write them efficiently in The Blank Page.

If you like to write and have an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or anything along those lines, then you should download this app. It’s really useful and it was free. I highly recommend it.
