Writerly Weekend

Friday: Work was a normal day with the kids, but once they left we celebrated with a surprise baby shower for two of my co-workers; one is a teacher in another classroom and the other is the school’s nurse. After work, it was just me and Dad home so we went out to eat together. We ran into a couple of old friends who we haven’t seen in ages. We didn’t talk long, but it was still nice to see them and know they’re doing well.

Saturday: Kris and I decided that we were going to have a huge writing day! We went to Barnes & Noble per usual and decided to try to stay as long as possible so we could get a lot of writing done. We ended up staying for an extra… it doesn’t seem like much, but we both ended up getting a lot more done than we usually do. I wrote about 7,000 words for my CampNaNoWriMo novel.

To top off the day, we went out with our other sister and friend to see the movie “Home.” I have to say that it was a wonderful movie. Absolutely adorable. And I want my own little pet alien.

Sunday: I went to church. I only had one kid in my Sunday school class. I wasn’t expecting anyone to show up because it was the week after Easter. Instead of doing a lesson, I decided to tidy the room up a bit. I told her she could play and she got really excited and asked to organize the blocks. The blocks take up a few shelves in a corner of the room and it always looks like that corner threw up. So, I told her to go for it. She did a really nice job with it, too. It took her the entire hour and she still didn’t finish.

I didn’t get any writing done on Sunday. After writing 7k on Saturday, I needed a bit of a break from my novel. I did however get some more Sunday school things done because I’m hoping to build a new curriculum for next year as well as start a new blog for it. So, at least I can say I did something productive.

This Week: This week is going to be like any other week. I’m going to try to get my homework done as soon as I can so I can write more of my Camp NaNo novel. I also have to edit the second part of Detective Florence by Wednesday so I can send that into my writing group.

Other than doing homework and keeping up with writing/editing and blogging, not too much is going on this week.

How was your weekend?

Quick Update

Updating About Nothing…

It’s been six days since I last updated, which kind of stinks because I was doing so well at updating regularly. However, my life has been a bit hectic lately, so I haven’t had any time. If I told you why I was so busy you wouldn’t believe me, although if you follow me on Twitter then you probably know that someone pushed my “Mom” button and I haven’t yet been able to figure out how to turn it off.

Yes, I have been babysitting all week. I am not going to go into details about it because then this post would take up the entire internet. Let’s just say that I regret getting my driver’s license six months ago.

I have been babysitting left and right this week and working on the new Sunday school curriculum for my church (my sister and I direct the Sunday school together). We have a meeting with the other teachers and our Reverend this afternoon so I have been trying to get everything done for that, as well as before it starts. I’ll have less time to focus on it when everything starts due to work and school. But I thought it was all good because I figured I could get everything I needed to get done this week and last week and such so that next week, my last week of freedom before school, work, and Sunday school start, I could just write until my fingers fell off. So, needless to say, I haven’t written since my last post on this blog. And it’s ironic because that last post was about me being super productive with my writing…

Here’s the catch: Due to financial problems, one of the teachers at my work got laid off. I work in a small private preschool and there’s only five of us: the director, the two teachers, and the two teacher assistants. I was one of the assistants. The other assistant quit last year (she was in the nursing field and graduated, so she went off to go live her life being a nurse) so we were looking to hire someone to replace her. Obviously instead of hiring someone, they let someone go. So now I have more hours and responsibility at work as I am being bumped up to lead teacher status with the other teacher. Which is great for me, but it sucks on how I ended up getting the position…we’re all very depressed that one of the teachers had to be let go.

My point is instead of starting back to work September 3, I start back on Monday. Yeah. 9-2 next week, so at least I’ll have the rest of the afternoon to write and get things done, but I was looking forward to having the whole day, the week in its entirety. But what are you going to do?

So basically I updated this to tell you that I have nothing to update. I was doing so well with my writing, but this week has been…blah. Today I’m babysitting Sam, Jackie, Kat, Cailey, and Juliana (the last two are my neighbors) until about three o’clock. Then I have the Sunday school meeting at four, then I have to babysit Hayden and Lyla (these kids are friends of a child I have at my preschool) at seven tonight probably until midnight. Maybe somewhere in there I can get a little writing in…hopefully. I’ll definitely bring a notebook tonight when babysitting. Hayden and Lyla are young, so they’ll both be in bed by eight.

We’ll just have to wait and see how everything plays out…but I am utterly exhausted.

I Have Nothing Witty To Say…

I haven’t been doing too well on keeping up with this thing lately, have I? I did a really good job updating practically daily when it was Camp NaNo. I tried to keep that up, but that hasn’t worked. Next month is July and it is Camp NaNo again, so I will most likely get back to updating daily, but then I’ll be going away for a week with no wi-fi. So…there’s that.

June is a busy month within it’s self. I have my aunt’s birthday, my cousin’s birthday, my nanny’s birthday just passed, and Father’s Day on top of that. I was happy that I didn’t have any graduations this year (even though I graduated myself). However, the spots where all the graduation parties would be quickly filled up because my sister is moving out with her boyfriend and my two cousins are moving in with my grandparents. So I have to help them all move from this place to that place and it’s going to be a lot. Not to mention that my house is going to go from seven people to four. Wow.

I have two weeks of work left, which isn’t bad. But I have to find time to prepare for the second session of Camp as well as continue editing my novels. I sent one children’s book to a publisher and I won’t hear back for three months. It’s an exclusive submission, so I can’t do anything with that story for the next three months. I’m in the process of finding more agents and publishers for my other children’s book in hopes to send that one out to multiple places while I wait for the other one.

My sister Lisa, the one who is moving out, she and I are the directors of our Sunday school at church so we need to get planning for next year’s curriculum. Not to mention that we have a dinner going on at my church in the middle of July and we have one to plan for August. It’s a lot of work.

My other sister, Kris, have to start websites for our church to get more people to come in. We’re the only ones who can do it because we’re the only ones who are computer savvy. We also need to start a website for my work. The preschool I work at is connected to my church and the church owns the preschool. Me being a teacher’s assistant at the preschool and the director of the Sunday school, I have many connections. Therefore, people ask me a lot of questions.

Kris and I go to Barnes and Noble once a week to write together. We can’t this week because her day off of work is Saturday and that’s because we need to help Lisa move. Obviously, that’s no issue, but I have no idea when I’m going to get some quality writing time in. This is one reason as to why I can’t wait for work to be done for the summer. I’ll be babysitting a lot, but I’ll still have a lot more free time on my hands than I do now.

Oh, did I mention that I’m trying to get into college for my Bachelor’s next semester? Yeah, I have to do that, too…I applied, at least. I just have to make the trip to my previous college to have them send them my transcripts.

I think my head is going to explode. I’m going to go write now…
