Well, l’m going to Disney tomorrow, leaving today. Kris and l are driving down with our cousins, aunt, and uncle. It takes about a day and a half.
I’m leaving soon so l need to keep the post short and sweet, but l’m going to try my best to update this week. It just won’t be about writing… it’ll be about Disney.
Parts two and three of my short challenge will be posted as the next two Short Story Sundays. They’re all ready written and posted as drafts on WordPress. So, provided l have wi-fi and my phone has service in the hotel (which it should) then l’ll be able to post.
I hope to update semi-regularly to share my trip with everyone, but l can’t make any promises. Honestly, l can’t even promise the short stories just in case.
However, if l am able to post, I don’t know how well l’ll be able to keep up with comments. I may reply to them all, just some, or not at all. I’ll catch up on everything when l get back… which will be August 27 (l think).
I hope everyone is doing well has a great week! Wish me luck for the car ride!
You see that picture up there? Yes, that is s’mores. Two s’mores! With coffee in a Tinkerbell mug! I know what you’re thinking: “coffee with s’mores? Is she for real…?” Well, my friends, this is why everyone tells me that they cannot wait until I get pregnant.
This is what I ate earlier while I was writing. I went to school, wrote, went to work, and then wrote some more. It was a productive day, I think.
Today I wrote a total of 4,434 words. Saving Each Other and my Camp NaNo stats are now up to 13,419 words. According to the stats, I am going to finish on April 12 at the rate I am going. Of course, I wrote over 6,000 words on the first day and I kind of want to break that record. I wrote 20k in two days about a week ago, I want to see if I can do that again.
Oh, and get this: you know how I’m trying to write 365,000 words by the end of 2013? That means I have to write 1,000 words a day. I was way behind in that goal because I forgot about it, I didn’t have time, whatever you want my excuse to be. Right now I should have about 93,000 words because 31 days (January) plus 28 days (February) plus 31 days (March) plus 3 days (April so far) equals to 93. Scroll down and look how many words I have right now. Yep, that’s right. I win. 😀 Granted, I still have about eight months to go, but…we can gloat for now.
I have also been thinking more and more about that vlog portion of Spilled Ink. I’m going to get started on it soon. I just have to figure out a few things. When I’m going to do it, how often I’m going to do it, how I’m going to do it, etc. However, it should hopefully be coming soon. I plan on having a lot of fun with a vlog.
I don’t think I really have anything else to say right now. Basically tomorrow is another day and I hope to get lots of stuff done. If you’re doing Camp, comment with your word count! 🙂

I have no idea where to start! I have a lot to say and I don’t know if I’m going to remember it all. I had Starbucks today and I am extremely wired! Seriously, ask my sister…and my mother…I was bothering them both. Singing, dancing, making weird noises, walking funny, yelling, laughing, falling on the floor, being loud…true story.
ANYWAY, I have three things to talk about…at least that’s all I can remember that I had to talk about…
First, Spilled Ink is back up for business. About two years ago, my sister and I started a writing website. Life got in the way and we kind of let it die. However, we wanted to get back into it so we made a new website for it. We came up with some new ideas for it, kept some old ideas and scrapped the rest of the old ideas. We hope the website grows a lot and is very successful.
Let me tell you a little about it: There are prompts, tips, writing races, co-authoring, and a role-playing section. There’s a place where members can review and discuss books they have read. Also, each member has their own board where they can post their own stories and other people can review the stories. You know, give feedback and critique. The link is on the Come Find Me page of this blog, but here it is again: Spilled Ink. Please go check it out and if you like, go ahead and join. We’d love to have you. 🙂
Next, I was thinking of adding more to this blog. My sister gave me this idea a while ago and I have been thinking of doing it ever since. I just never got the chance to actually do it. I was thinking about it more today and I think I’m going to really do it. However, I want to get your opinions anyway. So, if you don’t mind, please comment on whether you would enjoy this and want me to do this: once a month, I was thinking of doing a volg (video blog, for those of you who don’t know). So, once a month instead of posting words, you’d get to hear it straight from my loud mouth. Wouldn’t that be awesome? I don’t know when I would actually start doing this, but I thought I would throw it out there and see if you guys would like that or not. Of course, if the majority of you say no I may do it anyway. 😀
Third, I guess I should update about my actual writing, huh? I have been writing bit by bit each day since my last post. Since my last post I have written 7,659 words on Take Over. I plan on writing a little more tonight, but I probably won’t get the chance to update this later tonight and tell you all how wonderful I have been doing with my writing! I’ve been a good girl lately. 😀
I guess I do have more to talk about…fourth, my sister and I went to Barnes and Noble today (hence the Starbucks). We were looking at writing books when we were supposed to be writing. I have been thinking a lot about my future lately and I decided that it’s time that I really start looking for publishers. I have two children’s books written and ready to leave the nest. So I found one of those books that lists publishing companies, agencies, magazines, etc. I wrote down a few publishing companies that represent picture books. So, while I finish Take Over, edit Hunter and Diary of a Lover, and write Saving Each Other for Camp NaNoWriMo, I’ll be sending my two picture books off to publishers.
Also, Writer’s Digest sent me a thing in the mail about their annual writing contest. I’ve done it before (and lost, obviously), but that was two or three years ago. I think I’m going to try to do it again this year. I think I’m going to send in a poem. I don’t write poems often, although I would like to. I wasn’t going to bother with the contest again this year, but the other day, in math class of all places, I thought of a poem idea. I think that was my inner muse saying, “Do the Writer’s Digest contest!” Because seriously, when do I come up with poemideas?
Anyway, that’s that. Send my picture books to publishers, polish off my young adult novels, prepare for Camp NaNo, finish Take Over, do the contest…I have a lot on my plate right now. But I like it. I have wanted to be an author since I was ten and I finally want to get started on it. Meanwhile, I’m going to promote myself as much as possible. So follow me on here, on Twitter (the link is also on the Come Find Me page), and on my other Spilled Ink website. Then sit back and watch me succeed. Because I’m going to make it no matter what. 🙂

This is part of my problem. My problem being that I can never finish a writing project. Part of the reason as to why that is is because I get too distracted easily. I work on one idea, then think of something else, switch, and never get back to the old project. If you’re wondering what the other reasons are as to why I have this issue, I don’t know, yet. I’ll get back to you when I come up with some excuses.
While I was in school yesterday, not paying any attention to my health professor…or whatever class it was…I came up with a whole new writing project. I want to get published, sooner rather than later. However, a big wall is blocking me on account I don’t have the attention span to finish a novel and if I do finish it, I don’t edit it. So I came to an easy conclusion in the mean time.
To get my foot in my door along with a little experience, I decided that I am going to self-publish. But instead of self-publishing a novel, I’m going to do a book of short stories. I already have a couple whipped up…well, I have one at least. I’m pretty sure that I have another one. Unless that was an idea…that I never followed through with. Okay, before I go any further writing this post, please keep in mind that I had a long day of school and work and it is currently past 9pm. I am tired.
Continuing…I thought that I would create a bunch of short stories, throw them all together in a book, and self-publish it. Not only would it be easier to write, but it would be easier to edit. I wouldn’t have to worry too much about character development or plot thickers (“plot thickers…” I just made that up :D).
Now some of you might be thinking, “Wow, this kid’s really half-assing this whole writing thing.” I assure you that I am not. The reason I am doing this is as follows:
Get my foot in the door – I can be recognized. People who actually buy the book will know who I am and can look me up. And hopefully they will check back to see if I’m coming out with anything new soon.
Experience – I know absolutely nothing. About anything. If I self-publish, I will have that much more knowledge in what to do. I can self-publish other books and when I send manuscripts to publishing companies, they can see I already have stuff out and that would give me brownie points.
I want to – I’ve been dying to get published for a long time and this just might be the key. Maybe this will be my final push to actually finish a novel. And in the meantime while I’m finishing those other novels, I can make a little extra income. My bank account is suffering because of school…but that’s another story for another day.
Those are the big reasons as to why I’m going to do this. I don’t know when this is going to happen because I still have to do a little research and actually write these short stories, but I’ll get to work on that as soon as possible. Also, I will still be writing A Job to Get Done in the meantime. I am not going to stop writing that as I work on these short stories. I don’t want to stop writing that story for another couple months and forget about it like I did over the summer.
I know of two self-publishing companies that seem popular: CreateSpace from Amazon and PubIt! from Barnes & Noble. I’ve heard more of CreateSpace, though. I am a part of NaNoWriMo and I know that’s what they use. So I’m going to do a lot of research on that. Once I figure out which self-publishing company to go with, I have to figure out everything else…and I mean everything else.
If anyone has any thoughts or comments on what I’m planning on doing, such as info on any of these self-publishing companies or tips, please shoot me an e-mail (rachelxspilledxink [at] yahoo [dot] com) or put it in the comments of this post. Any info/help I can get will be much appreciated. Wish me luck! 🙂
