Due to school, work, and Camp NaNo, I did not finish reading the book I started this week.
The review should start back up again next week.
In meantime, here’s an adorable picture of my cat and turtle:
Today I went to the pet store to get some more filter cartridges for Mikey’s tank. I was there for a long time because I was looking at the other fish and they have a few new turtles there as well. The betta fish looked lively (which isn’t usually the case) and I wanted to get one or two, but decided against it. I’m pretty sure my mother would kill me if I brought home another animal. They had new turtles there as well and I wanted to get them all.
Speaking of turtles, I tried to find a log for Raph and they had one that would fit her shell, but it was really big. I didn’t buy it because I felt as though it would take up her entire tank and then I would never see her again. Plus, it was obnoxiously heavy. I did buy her some stepping stones to “naturally” file down her claws. They had a pack of large ones and a pack of small ones. The large bag was opened, so I decided to go with the small. I should have bought two because…well, they’re small. It doesn’t matter though, Raph hates them.
On top of this, Chip was sad (yes, the black furry thing is her) because she thought the stones were hers and when I told her they weren’t, she kept barking and growling at me and threw a temper tantrum by snorting and rolling around all over the place. Meanwhile, here’s Hunter:
Now that we’re all updated in what’s been going on in the lives of my animals, here’s what’s been going on in my life: I got a new job!
I’m sure some of you may remember that I lost my job last December because the preschool I worked at closed. Then I became a substitute teacher for another preschool starting last February. Well, they opened a new classroom and were in need of a few people. I got a call today saying I am officially the teacher’s aide for one of their nine classrooms. I am super excited!
So, starting in September I will be working full-time with five courses at school. For those of you who are (most likely not) asking this question: yes, I am all ready freaking out for what is going to happen to my mental state come November for NaNoWriMo. But, I guess we’ll worry about that at another time.
It’s a story challenge in which I urge all you other writers out there to check it out and give the challenge a go. I was going to write and post it today, but after reading the challenge I realized I wanted to give myself some time to think about it. It will most likely be posted for this week’s Short Story Sunday.
Well, that’s it for now. I don’t really anything too witty to say. 🙂
It’s another one of those posts again…yes, we’re going to discuss “the future” today. Aren’t we excited?
My sister Lisa has a friend who is currently saving up money with her sister to move out of the house. Since she, Kris, and I are all planning Lisa’s bridal shower together and such we’ve had a lot of time to hang out more than usual which is nice. She was telling Kris and I her plans and it got Kris and I thinking…again.
We both love to write. And we do write. But we don’t “write.” I realize I’m not making any sense, but it’s Camp NaNoWriMo right now, people. I was doing so well and then I just stopped. Why? I don’t know…bridal shower and bachelorette planning, homework, work, babysitting, preparing my bedroom to be painted, etc. There is so much to do and not enough time. And unfortunately, with my bills from the upcoming wedding and I’m going to Disney again in August in addition to school bills and such, I need to save every scrap of money I can get. Hence why I’ve been working and babysitting so much.
Writing doesn’t fit in right now. It’s not a priority because it doesn’t pay the bills. It makes me angry because I love to write and want to do it all the time for the rest of my life, but I don’t want to become a full-time writer just so I can go to Disney…I want it as a career because I know I will be happy doing that for the rest of my life.
Thus, Kris and I are bummed; especially Kris because she basically works about nine hours a day in which case your entire day is gone by that point. But by coincidence, the Easter Bunny got Kris a subscription to Writer’s Digest magazine and gave her an issue to get her started.
This issue had a list of 101 best websites for writers. We’re talking about websites to get the creative juices flowing, writing advice, agents and publishing, general resources, jobs, online writing communities, genre-specified sites, and writing sites that are just fun. It’s the best thing we’ve ever come across. Kris and I were discussing freelance writing on the side until we were able to publish something and this list of website gives us links to find writing jobs.
Neither one of us have looked at all the websites thoroughly, so we haven’t decided which are too fantastic to not join and such. Plus, there’s a lot to choose from and honestly a bit overwhelming because you just don’t know where to start.
As I go through these websites, I will be sharing my favorites on here for all of you writerly people to enjoy.
Since Kris and I have been behind on NaNo and decided to finally step it up into our writing careers, we’re skipping church tomorrow to go to Barnes & Noble and write all day long. So I’m hoping to write at least 10k tomorrow.
I decided to write all day today as well since I was home and wrote 10,369 words. I have to say that I feel so good right now after doing that. My NaNo count is up to 30,721 now. Still behind, but hopefully if I get a good chunk done tomorrow I will be able to hit 50k by the end of the month.
Before I go, I have to shamelessly advertise: Kris started a new blog. She’s still maintaining her Sugar Wolf blog about writing, but she created a new blog called Wagging Tales. She works with dogs so this blog is dedicated to stories and her experiences with the furry, loveable creatures. So feel free to go check it out!
I hope everyone is having good luck with their writing and NaNo (if you’re participating). Talk to you soon! 🙂
Note to self: Does better writing in the morning.
The insulation guys came back today to finish up in the blue room and my bedroom. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to concentrate well. We had to move Raph into the bathroom, Chip needed to be barricaded in the living room, and Hunter was locked in my parents’ bedroom. Poor animals. Long story short, Chip wouldn’t stop barking so I ended up sitting on the couch with her while playing Pokemon.
So that happened, then I went to work, then I went out to eat with my boyfriend. I got home around 6:30 PM and then began to write. Even though I am ahead in NaNo, I want to write 1,667 words a day anyway.
It took a long time. I was sleepy. I kept making typos. Chip kept distracting me. But I got it done. I wanted to get a little more words in before I went to bed, but I figured that was going to be too much for my small brain to handle. So I had to quit while I was ahead.
I’m going to write tomorrow morning. Apparently I write a lot better when my mind is fresh and relaxed. So I should get a lot more words in tomorrow. Tomorrow should be a much better update.
I hope everyone else is doing fantastic on NaNo!

Almost One Week Down…
I went away for the Fourth of July with my boyfriend and his family. This meant I had to leave poor Raph behind. Of course, I was only gone for one full day. However, Kris took good care of her. She was at work when I came home and when I went down to the basement to say hi to Raph, I found this note. It says:
“Hi Mom! I drove Kris CRAZY this morning when she was trying to write while I was out. You would have been proud! Despite that, she gave me some AWESOME cucumbers and lettuce. She did not, however, change my pool water. You should get on that. I’m sure you had fun in NH, but I bet you missed me! Love, Raphie.”
Now, as you all know, Raph is a turtle, not a dog or a cat. When I first got her, I did a lot of research on turtles. Everything said turtles have no memory at all. They only remember who feeds them and what hurts them. That’s it. Other than that, they don’t really “feel” anything else.
I was surprised when I went down to take her out because as soon as she saw me, she seemed to get really excited. She tried walking through the glass wall of her tank. She always does that when she sees me because she knows when I come down stairs it either means she’s getting food or she gets to come out of her tank for a bit. So I thought nothing of it. But when I took her out, she kept curling up by my foot. I kept moving her away so she could get some exercise, but she kept coming back. Finally, I picked her up and put her on my lap while I wrote. She actually stayed there. I was surprised because she hates sitting on my lap. I think she hates it because it’s not a flat surface and, since we were sitting on my desk chair, it was high up.
So Raph isn’t a cat or a dog, but I think there is some sort of bond between the two of us with all the interaction I give her. So I don’t really believe all those people on Google who said turtles don’t feel anything. I think she noticed that I was gone. Or maybe I’m just over-thinking this? Oh, well. I’m going to pretend that she missed me. 🙂
Anyway, I wrote while she sat upon my lap. I was right on par with the NaNo count, but my word count…I was behind. By a lot. NaNo is 1,613 words a day, I’m trying to get 2,500 words a day. Because I missed yesterday (and I haven’t been writing 2,500 words a day…) I needed to write about 7,000 words in order to catch up to my own goal. According to my goal, I should be at 12,500. I wrote as much as I could before my cousins came over (but I kept getting distracted…) I wrote a total of 2,027 words leaving my Camp count at 7,630. Not bad.
I’ve been trying to write for at least one hour every single day. I had about three hours to write and even though I kept getting distracted, I did in fact write for a full hour…I think. I’m pretty sure. I don’t see how I couldn’t have written for at least one full hour.
Anyway, tomorrow my goal is supposed to be 15,000. Do we think I can catch up? Eh, we’ll see.
