Camp NaNoWriMo

Camp National Novel Writing Month…

Show of hands–who is participating in Camp NaNo this year? I know that I am and I have to say that I am certainly not prepared for it…

First, I’m a little disappointed that Script Frenzy is no more. I loved that website and I loved participating. Can you do a script for NaNo? Of course, but it’s not really the same. I think they took down Script Frenzy because not a lot of people were joining it…as far as I’m concerned, there were a good amount of people on there. Most of the people on NaNo were on Script Frenzy.

Second, they changed the dates again. The first year I discovered Camp NaNo was 2011 and it was during the months of June and July. For 2012 it was July and August. Now, for 2013, it’s April and July. I’m glad we can all agree on at least July. I’m sure they changed it to April because that’s when Script Frenzy used to be.

Third, my OCD is kicking it. There are 12 months in a year and three sessions of NaNoWriMo. 12 divided by three is four. Each session should be four months a part. November, March, July. End of story. Of course, that would mean I would have to write 50,000 this month, but…whatever. The way they have it now is obnoxious. November to April is five months, April to July is three months, and July to November is three months. Make it even, please!

This poses as an issue. April is less than one month away and I have no idea what to do for it. Not to mention that I am already in the middle of a novel. I know some people are “rebels” and they just add 50,000 words onto whatever novel they are currently writing, but I don’t like to do that. I like to start fresh. So this means that I have to finish Take Over by April because if I start writing something new, I know for a fact that I will never go back to Take Over. And I really need to start finishing things that I start.

So I am going to try to work extra hard for the rest of this month and try to get Take Over finished up. Then I can start planning for April and…I have no idea what novel I am going to write for that. But I guess I can’t really worry about that right now because I have to focus on finishing Take Over. This is a lot to handle; especially since I’m trying to get school organized and such.

By the way, I finished reading Beautiful Creatures. It was a good book–everyone should read it. But while the movie was great, it really didn’t do the book justice. So if you’re one of those people who gets angry when the movie is completely different from the book, I say watch the movie before you read the actual book. That way, you can enjoy the movie for just a little bit. Anyway, that’s 563 pages added to my pages read count!

As you know because I haven’t posted in a couple of days, I have no written in a couple of days. I have been busy and I have been exhausted. I am, however, going to try my absolute best to finish Take Over by April. That gives me a little over three more weeks and I’m already doing pretty well on the story. I think I should be able to do it.

I just have to cut off all ties with life.

Hello 2013!

I Can’t Believe Another Year Has Come And Gone…

I hope everyone had a great holiday and a lovely New Year! I spent last night at my friends house with my sisters…our host fell asleep. But it’s okay, we woke her up 20 minutes before midnight! We watched the people in New York…no one would be able to drag me there for anything on that night. Too many people and it was way too cold. Plus, I like to go to bed right after midnight…even though I didn’t. But that’s besides the point.

Anyway, I got a new little nifty gadget from Santa! I got an iPod Touch. I know some of you probably don’t think that’s a big deal because most of you probably have the iPhone 5, but my phone is an old Sony Ericsson flip phone that I have had for a few years and it still works wonders…even after I accidentally drop it a million times a day. His name is Caleb and I love him.

But speaking of Donny (this is what I named my new iPod), I have used him quite a bit. One of my favorite things is the WordPress App that I have for it. That’s what I used when I wrote my last post oh so long ago. But at least now, I can update while I’m in class at school! Isn’t that great? 😀

But let’s talk about the new year. The past two years I have had the same resolution and both years I started off the beginning of the year really well and followed it. Then half way through the year, I would either get bored or just forget about it. That resolution was to read more. So, I think I might try it again, but we’ll have to see how it goes. I am on GoodReads and the link to my profile is on the Come Find Me page of this blog if anyone wants to check it out (I also have the app for that, too!). I also just joined the 2013 Reading Challenge on there with a goal of 20 books. It told me that I only read eight books last year. That’s kind of sad…but kind of a new record for me, I guess.

Another resolution: write more. I feel as though I say this every single day, but I really am going to start writing a lot more. Here’s a little bit of news for you: I finished Saving Each Other. Remember that NaNo I was trying to accomplish? Well, I finished it in the middle of December. The only thing is that I’m going to try doing something  a little different…

My sister came up with this idea and I’ve decided to follow through with it because I believe it would work out better this way. Instead of Saving Each Other being one book with sequels, I’m going to have it be in one book. Saving Each Other is just the first part. So I guess you can say that I finished one part of a book that’s going to have five parts. So, I edited my To Do List page and replaced “finish Saving Each Other” with “finish Seeing Things.” I also got rid of the whole write 360 pages by the end of the year…I think I got to a little over 200 pages. Not bad, at least.

So this is what I’m going to be doing this year: reading more and writing more. Let’s hope that I can keep it up with school and work!

Happy New Year everyone! And good luck with all your resolutions! 🙂

Merry Christmas!

And a Happy New Year!

So it has been a little while since I have updated this thing; however there is a lot that has been going on. For example, I got sick. Yes, again. I came down with the stomach bug. And, to make the story more interesting, I came down with it right in the middle of finals week for school. I missed my math final, but my professor was nice enough to let me go in the next day to take. Except she wouldn’t shut up while I took the test…

Anyway, there are a few updates I would like to share; especially about my writing, but I’ll save it for later. I just wanted to come on and wish everyone a Merry Christmas! 🙂

Hoping Santa Clause was good to everyone, I will update soon with some good news!

Small Update

Hey everyone! I just wanted to give a small update because I haven’t posted in a couple of days. Of course, I haven’t posted in a couple of days because I haven’t written anything in a couple of days.

I now have 121 pages written out of my 360 page goal. Go me! Of course, in order to finish that 360 pages by the end of 2012, I have to write a little over 13 pages a day. Yeah, right. I think I could do well with something like that, but with finals at school, work, and Christmas coming up…not a chance. Especially since after Christmas whatever toys I get, I’ll be playing with them a lot.

Also, I have 33,229 words of Saving Each Other. 13 days late of NaNoWriMo and still not done, but better late then never. The end of this novel is near, as well. I have 105 pages so far and still counting.

My “To Do List” wants me to finish Saving Each Other and write 360 words by the end of the year, so I’m attempting to kill two birds with one stone…slowly. But that’s okay. 😉

Serious Pep Talk

Getting Down To Business…

So…yesterday was my birthday. And as I sat there on my birthday, I began to realize something serious. And I must talk about it.

I started this blog for an important reason. I didn’t start it because I’m in love with the Internet and is constantly on the computer whenever I have free time. I started this because I wanted to journal about my writing. I wanted to share my ups and downs of the process…the writing, the editing, the getting published…I wanted to share what I know about the process and things that I am just learning. I wanted an online journal to share with the world and others who are in the same position as me. I want to learn from other blogs, I want others to learn from mine. I may have been writing for 9 years now, but just because it’s been nearly a decade, doesn’t mean I’m an expert. I still have no idea what I’m doing.

I read others blogs about writing and I do learn a lot. Some people say one thing while others think differently, but then I have to choose which option I think is best for me. Which one I agree with. I read writing blogs and a lot of them say the same things, “I write this many pages every day; I write for a minimum of an hour a day; I just finished editing my novel; I’m getting self-published/published!” Well, of course that is great news for those people. But as I read that I think to myself, “I want to write that much a day and be in a routine; I want to have a novel completely finished; I want to be published.” See the difference? I want. They do.

I remember last New Year’s, 2011. I was at my friend’s house and as we waited for the ball to drop, I asked myself, “Is this the year? Is 2012 going to be the time when I at least fully write and edit a novel to send out places? Or maybe I will have a book in the process of being published by the end of the year?” Now that it’s been almost a year, I realize that I am in the exact same spot I started in. I haven’t gotten any farther.

Now, it’s not like I haven’t been doing anything the past year. I have been busy with homework and with work and babysitting and family issues as well as friends…I have done a lot in 2012 and I still have a few more months to go. But considering how much writing I have done, it makes me question my future.

My goal in life is to be a full-time author. I don’t want to have a day job as well as a writing job on the side as though it’s extra money. I want to sell as many books as I can and be able to call myself a full-fledged writer. I may not be the next J.K Rowling, but I sure hope that I make a name for myself. I have so many ideas to share with the world. I have to share them.

But sometimes I get worried and have to ask myself questions that no one will ever know the answers to. I write because I love to write. However, will I be good enough? When will I be good enough? I’m in school learning about education in case writing doesn’t work out…so am I doing the right thing or is school wasting too much time that could potentially be the next great best seller? Will I become a writer…or will I be teaching the rest of my life? If I become a teacher, is that because my books didn’t sell enough to give me the income I needed to use that as my only job or is it because writing just didn’t work out at all for me? If writing works, am I just going to leave my teaching past behind? And the big question…is writing in my future at all?

I wish I had a big crystal ball, but the reality is that I don’t. I don’t have any answers to any of those questions and I’m not going to until I start really trying. I need to try writing three pages a day…I need to work at editing a novel. I know the process is long and hard…but who knows, maybe if I work really hard the end of this year, 2013 will be my year. But we just don’t know…

My oldest sister and I are Sunday school teachers at our church. We went to the director’s house to get our curriculum books for the year and she informed us that she is stepping down. My sister and I are the new directors together. That’s one more thing I have on my plate this year. School, work, Sunday school, babysitting, homework, family, friends…but I will fit in a time for writing. Even if it’s five minutes a day. I have to. No more “I want.” It’s all going to be “I do” or “I did.”

So…here’s to another year older. Maybe not another year wiser. But hey–we’ll give it a shot. 😉 Cheers.
