“Do you remember when we used to sneak out at two o’clock in the morning?” Ashley asked in a whisper.
Sarah laid in her bed with her hands resting behind her bed. She chuckled at the ceiling. “Yes… We used to wait until we could hear both of your parents snoring to make sure they were in a deep sleep.”
“Then we would go for a walk around the block.” Ashley sighed with a wide grin on her face. “I can’t believe we were that stupid…”
“It was completely stupid of us. Do you remember one time we took a walk and there was a guy sitting in his driveway smoking a cigarette?” Sarah looked to her right at Ashley lying on her own bed.
“Oh, God! That was creepy. He stared at us until we were out of sight.”
“I’m pretty sure that was the last time we snuck out in the middle of the night.”
Ashley snickered. “It didn’t stop us from doing other stupid things, though.”
“No, of course not.” Sarah laughed.
There was a moment of silence as the two girls stared up at the ceiling in their dark room. Ashley let out a sigh and Sarah broke the silence.
“We did most of our stupid things during sleepovers, did you realize that?” Sarah observed.
“Well,” Ashley replied matter-of-factly, “we needed a full 24-hours in order to think of stupid ideas, plot them out, then execute them.”
Sarah laughed again. She didn’t know what else to say. Ashley was right. She wondered how she and her friend never got caught all those years.
“Now we can have a sleepover every single night and plan more stupid things!” Ashley beamed.
“Um, no.” Sarah chuckled. “We’re not having sleepovers, we live together. We’re in a college dorm, or have you forgotten that?”
“Even better!”
“No more planning stupid ideas. We’re adults now.”
Ashley scoffed. “Adults… I don’t even know what that means.”
“It means we can get in trouble on a whole new level.” Sarah stated. She wondered if that was supposed to be a good thing or not. There were so many opportunities for her and Ashley, but she knew they shouldn’t take all of them.
“True.” Ashley sighed. “We’re going on new adventures now.”
