Two Great Awards

I was nominated for two blog awards last week (it might have been a couple weeks ago)! I usually have my posts scheduled in advance, so I am the absolute worst at keeping up with the awards. I do enjoy doing them, though.

I’m going to combine both awards into this one post, so it may run a bit long. So, without further ado…

Make It Ultra Blog Award

The first award is called MakeItUltra. I was nominated by Christina over at The Bookshelf Corner. I just started following her blog because of this award. If you’re not following her already, please do so or at least check it out. Her blog is all about reading and writing. Thanks again Christina!

The MakeItUltra™ Blogger Award is an award given to bloggers by bloggers for quality content, originality and presentation. The intention of this award is to encourage connectivity and support in the blogging community and to increase exposure for individual bloggers.

If you have been nominated for the MakeItUltra™ Blogger Award and choose to accept, write a blog post about the MakeItUltra™ Blogger Award in which you:

1. Thank the person who nominated you and post a link to their blog on your blog. Take a moment to positively promote the person who nominated you.

2. Display the award on your blog by adding it to your post and/or displaying it using a widget on your page (Save the image to your computer and upload it to your blog post).. Don’t forget to use the tag #MyUltraAward when you make your post!

3. Answer the following MakeItUltra™ Blogger Award questions.

What is your name?

Where are you from?

The United States.

How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

I started blogging in May 2012 (over four years ago) because I wanted to get more of my writing out there. My blog has grown a lot since then.

What are you most proud of?

Growing this blog and being able to complete a few manuscripts as well as reading one book a week for the past (almost) two years now.

What are your blogging goals?

My blogging goals are to get my writing recognized and build an audience as well as meet other bloggers and writers.

How do you spend your free time?

I read, write, blog, play video games, and watch YouTubers play video games. I guess I socialize with friends from time to time as well.

4. Nominate 1-8 blogs that you feel deserve the award and provide links.

5. Provide 5 random facts about yourself (optional).

  • My favorite animals are giraffes and turtles
  • I have generalized anxiety disorder
  • I love putting together puzzles, framing them, and hanging them on my wall
  • My favorite colors are blue and silver
  • I prefer salty over sweet

6. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here).

7. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the MakeItUltra™ Blogger Award and provide a link for them to your post.

I never tell people I nominate them… Sometimes I just tell people to nominate themselves. But Herminia, I know you’re going to read this anyway.

Next up is the One Lovely Blog Award. I was nominated by Aurora over at Writer’s Treasure Chest. Aurora is a wonderful blogger, writer, and person in general. Her blog is a lot of fun varying with her own writing pieces and reblogs of other great bloggers among author spotlights, guests, and much more. Go check it out and give her a follow if you’re not already!

Here are the rules for accepting the award:

1. Thank the lovely person who nominated your blog and follow them.
2. Display the award and add this set of rules to your post so that your nominees will know what to do
3. Nominate 15 other great blogs listing them in your post and notifying them via a link in one of their blog posts.
4. List 7 interesting facts about yourself to the post.

7 Facts About Me

This is hard… I already listed five random facts. I didn’t expect to talk about myself so much.

  1. My favorite season is summer
  2. I don’t drink alcohol. (I took this from Aurora’s facts, but it applies to me too!)
  3. I hope to have a “zoo” when I get my own house (cats, dogs, turtles, aquariums, the works)
  4. I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 19. While I love being able to drive myself places, if I’m going out with other drivers, I prefer them to drive.
  5. I rarely watch TV or movies
  6. I wish Pokemon and the Ninja Turtles were real
  7. I currently own two blogs (this one and Double Jump) with five other blogs in the works (I have a lot of interests, okay?)

My Nominations

As stated earlier, I don’t normally nominate people. There are too many wonderful bloggers and I know some people don’t do the awards. So, if you’re reading this, I’m sure you have a lovely blog that you would like to share with all of us. Feel free to nominate yourself.

Thanks again Christina and Aurora!

Liebster and BookFangirling Awards

I was nominated for two awards recently. I don’t normally do these anymore, but they’re still fun nonetheless. I decided to combine the two awards to one post, so this may be a bit long.

Liebster Blog Award

First, I was nominated for the Liebster Award. The lovely Aurora from Writer’s Treasure Chest nominated me. Thanks, Aurora!

The rules are:

–Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you
–Answer 11 questions the blogger gives you
–Nominate 11 other bloggers you think deserve the award
–Let the bloggers know you nominated them
–Give them 11 questions to answer

1. If you could have dinner with one fictional character who would it be?

Any of the Harry Potter characters, hands down. It’s hard to pick just one, though. Out of the main trio, my favorite is Ron.

2. If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, which would it be?

Again, Harry Potter.

3. Which was the book that has impressed you the most as a kid?

Hank the Cowdog series. It was a funny mystery about a dog who solved crimes. That series brings back some memories.

4. If you could pick a random spot anywhere on Earth, where would you like to travel right now?

New Zealand. I would love to visit The Shire from Lord of the Rings!

5. What is your favorite book quote?

My answer is going to be pretty cheap, but I have no idea. There are so many books I read and I love so many different quotes. It’s hard to think back and just choose one. I do enjoy a quote from Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

6. Which author inspires you?

J.K. Rowling and Erin Hunter (even though she’s technically more than one person).

7. Which celebrity (dead or alive) would you want to be trapped in an elevator with for 24 hours?

Jerry Lewis!

8. Is there any place in the world you would rather live than you do now?

Nope. I’ve never really been anywhere, so as far as I’m concerned this is a good place.

9. Who is your favorite band/artist?

It changes all the time, but right now I’m really loving Lindsey Stirling, Taylor Davis, and Peter Hollens.

10. What is your favorite movie?

Disney’s Peter Pan. There are plenty of other movies I love, but that popped into my head first. It could be because I’ve been reading a lot of retellings lately, though! Also, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings… Yes.

11. Tell me one random fact about yourself?

My favorite animals are giraffes and turtles.

Thanks again, Aurora!

My Questions (some borrowed from Aurora):

1. Why did you start blogging?
2. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
3. What other hobbies do you enjoy?
4. Which author do you look up to the most?
5. What is your favorite movie?
6. Physical book, ebook, or audiobook?
7. What would you bring with you on a deserted island? Cell phone, laptop, book, or notebook?
8. What’s your favorite type of music to listen to?
9. Who is your all-time favorite fictional character?
10. Where do you see your blog five years from now?
11. Tell us a random fact about yourself.

Onto the next award…

Book Fangirling Award

I was nominated by the great Tina of All These Prompts. Thanks Tina!

The rules are:

–Create a post to accept your award.
–Add the blog award button into your post and put it on the side of your blog as a widget. Visit Fangirling for the award button.
–Answer the questions below.
–Nominate between 5-10 book bloggers who you think also deserve this award.
–Come up with your own 5 questions for your nominees.

1. Which languages do you read in?

Just English. I don’t know any other languages.

2. Name the very first book you remember reading on your own (as opposed to your parents reading to you).

I want to say it was a Dr. Suess book? I honestly can’t remember. I loved Go, Dogs, Go! as a kid.

3. How do you choose which book to read next?

Whichever novel jumps out at me when I look at my shelf. Sometimes I’ll get in the mood for a particular genre, but my choice is usually random.

4. How do you feel about ebooks and audiobooks?

I prefer physical copies, but I do read ebooks and enjoy them. I use to listen to audiobooks when I was a kid, but I haven’t listened to one in a long time. So I can’t really say. I like the idea of it, though.

5. Name one book that disappointed you and one that was a pleasant surprise.

Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck was a huge disappointment to me. I was looking forward to reading that book for a while and then I couldn’t even finish it. A book that was a pleasant surprise was Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home. I had to read it for school and it didn’t sound appealing to me at all, but I really enjoyed it.

My Questions:

1. What is your favorite book or series?
2. Who is your favorite author?
3. What’s your favorite genre?
4. How often do you read?
5. Name a book you love and a book you didn’t like as much.

Thanks again, Tina!

I nominate everyone who reads this post! If you feel up to it, feel free to do one or both of these award tags.

Be sure to drop by Writer’s Treasure Chest and All These Prompts as well!

1,000 Followers — Thank You

Thank You

Spilled Ink hit a milestone the other day! After blogging for almost two years, Spilled Ink is up to 1,000 followers. Thank you everyone who have made this possible! I’ll keep this short and sweet, so…

Through the years I have been nominated for many awards, have been re-blogged, and have made many WordPress friends. It’s so much fun sharing my adventures in writing and life with all of you and I’m glad 1,000 of you have enjoyed reading about my adventures and deemed my blog good enough to come back for more.

Adding a “thank you” picture to this post is the least I could do for all the feedback, advice, and friendship I have received from all of you.

I hope everyone is doing well with their writing, their blogs, and life in general. Thanks again! 🙂

Two Awards

Beautiful Blogger

First things first: The wonderful Topaz nominated me for two awards! Thanks, Topaz! The first one is the Beautiful Blogger award. Here are the rules:

1.Copy the Beautiful Blogger Award logo
2. Thank the person who nominated you and create a link back.
3. Nominate seven other bloggers and say a little something about them.

The Howler

Here are the rules for The Howler Award:

1. Display the award on your blog. This can be in your sidebar or on a special award page
2. Thank the person who gave you the award and link to their blog
3. Give 3 examples of things you would like to see changed in the world
4. Nominate (in your own time) at least 5 bloggers that deserve the award
5. Donate the equivalent of $10 to a charity of your choice (optional)

What I would like to change in the world…all of these are easier said than done, but…

1. Fix the economy — seriously, it’s ridiculous
2. Stop war — this is even more ridiculous
3. Stop bullying — I hear way too many negative stories on this subject

My Nominees for both The Beautiful Blogger & The Howler Awards…

1. Random Acts of Writing — A regularly updated blog with many tidbits of writing. She has a few works in progress and is hoping to see them on the bookshelves soon.
2. Readful Things Blog — A wonderful writer, blogger, photographer, book reviewer, etc. She does everything that screams “art” and is fantastic at it.
3. Aspiringwriter22 — I have too many good things to say about Herminia. She is a fantastic blogger, a wonderful writer, and a hard-worker.
4. Permashift — I know I nominated this blog for an award not too long ago and it’s easy to understand why. Her book just came out less than a month ago, so please go check it out!
5. Uniquely Russell — A wonderful poet and writer. He is taking place in NaPoWriMo this year, so please go check it out if you want to read great poems!
6. Luna’s Little Library — Literally the best place for book reviews. Enough said.
7. Lysa Taylor — A wonderful writer. Check out her book trailer on her website (it’s really well done)!

There are my nominees…I could have written more about them, but I think it would be much easier for you to see for yourselves, so you should go check out their blogs. 😉

Thanks again Topaz!

The Liebster Award

It’s a little late, but here it is…

I was nominated for the Liebster Award! I want to thank S.R. Carrillo over at Permashift who nominated me for this award! Also, be sure to check out her debut novel The Soul which is now available for purchase!

Rules (modified)

1. Each nominee should link back to the person who nominated them.

2. Answer the 10 questions which are given to you by the nominator.

3. Nominate 5-11 other bloggers for this award who have less than 400 followers.

4. Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer.

5. Let the nominees know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them.

1. How important is the title of a book?
I say pretty important…aside from the cover, it’s what draws the reader to your book in the first place. If the title sounds interesting, then they’ll flip it over to read the synopsis.

2. Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Of course I can!

3. Pets! Cats. Dogs. Ferrets. Chinchillas. Have any household furbabies?
I have a dog, a cat, a turtle, and a fish.

4. Any favorites among the classics? Shakespeare? The Brontë sisters? Etc.?
Honestly, no. Not really. I like the modern stuff.

5. How do you feel about space travel?
Too scary for me!

6. Do you watch the movie then read the book – or read the book then watch the movie?
Lately, I’ve been reading the books first. For Harry Potter and Twilight I watched the movies first. Let’s just say I’ll be reading the Harry Potter series soon and not Twilight.

7. F***! Darn! Should characters curse?
No. I don’t think it’s classy at all. A few swears here and there are alright depending on the character’s personality, but if every other word is the F-bomb, then no thank you.

8. Your ideal writing space – lots of noise and clutter or serene and isolated?
Serene and isolated. I can listen to instrumental music and that’s it. Otherwise I can’t think.

9. Pandas and penguins. Love ‘em or leave ‘em?
Love them, of course.

10. What’s the one genre you can’t stand – or simply don’t care for?
I can read horror, but it’s not my favorite. A good thriller or suspense would be ideal, but I’m not looking to give myself nightmares.

My Nominees

These are the blogs I nominate for the Liebster Award! They work very hard and deserve the attention. 🙂

1. Topaz Winters

2. Aspiring Writer

3. When I Became an Author

Here are the questions for you to answer (my questions are dumb, sorry):

1. What is your favorite genre?
2. Are you currently working on a novel? If so, what’s it about?
3. Tool of choice (laptop, notebook, etc.)?
4. How long have you been writing for?
5. What made you start writing?
6. What’s your favorite movie?
7. What’s your favorite season?
8. How often are you on the internet (blogging, researching, school, etc.)?
9. What’s your favorite music?
10. Aside from writing, what is your favorite thing to do?

Have fun! 🙂
