Reading On Vacation

I prefer physical books over e-books. I like turning the pages, I like the crinkle of the spine, I love the smell of the ink on the paper. Reading physical books just has an overall good feeling to it.

But I do like e-books as well. I enjoy that I can carry multiple books with me anywhere and I also like that they’re typically cheaper than the standard paperback or hardcover.

I’ve been on vacation all week and I tend to read a book a day when I’m here.

Two years ago I read five books and last year I think I read eight books. I think it’d be cool if I read at least eight books again if not more, to try to beat my own personal record.

No, it’s not a race. I’d rather enjoy the book than zipping through it. Still, it’s fun to see how much I can read in a week.

I’ve been on vacation for four full days now and I still have today and tomorrow to read.

So far, I’ve read four books, each in one sitting. It’s been great!

Do you typically spend your vacations reading a lot? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. This sounds silly, but I actually read LESS on vacation. I think it’s because my family likes the kind of holidays that keep us busy, so I actually have less time to read than when I’m at home, since we’re always off sight-seeing! I’m totally with you on physical books> eBooks though

    1. That happens sometimes. My parents love to keep busy. Sometimes I go with them, but there are plenty of times I tell them I’m staying behind to just sit back and relax.

  2. last year was the first time I only brought my e-reader on holiday and I was worried that it would malfunction and I would be without any books. Of course it didn’t and I enjoyed not having to lug several books around. At home though I still prefer physical books.
Enjoy the last of your holiday! Hope you got lots of reading done.

  3. The only time I get time off is the weekends, which I’d love to spend reading, but I usually have a ton of things to do. However, I’ve been taking part in two readathons and I’ve read 4 books already this week.
8 books is a huge pile! I hope you can better your own record. Good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚
I also prefer physical books but I end up reading a lot of e-books because they’re not convenient, as you have pointed out.

    1. I’ve had more time to read lately, which is great, but I still find it hard. Vacation is ideal for reading.
I ended up reading 4 and a half, lol. I hung out with my cousins more often.
      Good luck with your readathons!

      1. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚
It seems like you got the best of both worlds – hanging out with your cousins and getting some reading done. I hope you had a great vacation. ๐Ÿ™‚

      2. I did. We see each other a lot (we live down the street from one another), but it’s fun to live in the same house. They’re my best friends. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I agree- nothing can replace a book. Great post. I find I’m not reading as much as I want to. Balancing reading and writing is not easy. Happy rest of the summer, Rachel.

  5. I love reading, especially on holiday as there are so many little pockets of time – even if you’re travelling.
I love a physical book! Its the feel and crinkle that i enjoy. My partner gave me an e-reader as a gift but I’ve only ever read one book on it, it just doesn’t give me as much satisfaction! I do see the bonus when on holiday though as I’m sure half of my suitcase weight it used on books haha.

    1. Yeah, I know what you mean. I brought six physical books and then also my Kindle “in case I ran out of books to read,” lol. Plus, there was also a bookstore nearby so I could have just bought more. ๐Ÿ˜‰
