Time to Write: Everyday Troubles

time to write writing prompt rachel poli

Most often than not, something ends up going wrong. It goes in spurts. You’ll have a few really good days and then there may be a string of days where nothing seems to go right.

Write about something going wrong. It can be something as big as the car not starting or something small like running out of eggs when you need to bake a cake.

What happens, how often, and how does your character handle it?

Feel free to post your story in the comments below. I’d love to see what you come up with. If you respond by Thursday, March 24, I’ll post your story and a link to your blog for next week’s Time to Write prompt.

Happy writing!

  1. Mornings are a blur
Though you have to be grateful to wake into one,
In a lightning speed she finished her work
And checked her own reflection on the run.
    Hand combed her disheveled hair
A little lipstick to try and look good
Got her sleepy tot up and ready,
As fast as her hands could.
A working mother, she has no time
    Doesn’t care enough to cook.
I doubt she knows what her kids do
Said the voices in the dark nook.
She tries to manage it well
And gets many things in place.
    Reaches work well within time
And puts up a bright face.
The demands at work are never few,
All she wants is a moment’s rest.
But the to -do list is in multiply mode
And she continues with her quest.
Between her baby’s wails and patient lists
    A blurring image swiftly swishes
    Hoping to strike a balance
An impossible wish that she wishes.

She is happy to have an identity
Though she is not sure what it is.
Is it that of a doctor who keeps checking her watch
or a mother who forgets to kiss.

In the turbulent sea of guilt.
She looks for a mast to hold on to.
But her boat is steadied by a sturdy anchor,
When her tot says ‘I want to be like you’
