10k More To Go…

So I really didn’t feel like writing today. I had to open and close at work so I didn’t get a chance to write in the morning and by the time I got home I felt as though I was done for the day. So I decided that I wasn’t going to write.

Then I decided that I would write at least 1,667 words because that’s what I’ve been doing all month and hope to continue doing so even after I hit 50k. Well, 1,667 added onto my word count was 39,700 or something around there. I decided that is too close to 40k, so why not write the extra 300 or so words?

Then I got tired. I realized since I am so far ahead, I technically only need about 600 more words to write every day in order to hit 50k by the end of the month. But that didn’t feel right, so I decided to just write an even 1,000.

But then I realized that I have been trying to write five pages a day. So I said, “Fine! I’ll write five pages or 1,000 words…whichever comes first.” Five pages came first (gotta love dialogue…), but it frustrated me because I wanted the even 1,000. So I went for it. I had about 39k. I was sad because 40k was just another 1,000 words away. But I was too tired.

So I updated my word count on NaNo. But because I didn’t write 1,667 today the bar for today’s word count was still blue, it hadn’t turned green. So OCD kicked in…thus, my word count is 40,037.

Thank you NaNo for making your new website kick my OCD go into overdrive!

Today’s Word Count: 2,201
Total Word Count: 40,037
Today’s Page Count: 8
Total Page Count: 128

  1. You are so lucky! I went through a spout of writing the first week, and have since tapped myself out, so I’m stuck at only 17,500 words thus far. I intend to finish, though. Here’s hoping.

  2. Congratulations on the awesome word count! Days when I just don’t think I have it in me to write, that blasted bar mocks me in blue until I have to write until it’s green…

    • I didn’t realize how useful it was going to be until I actually didn’t write the normal amount…even though I don’t have to. It’s a great motivator.

Thanks and good luck to you! πŸ™‚
